The kinetics of decamethoxine liberation from medical antimicrobial textiles was studied. The elution of decamethoxine was shown to be a complicated diffusive-kinetic process dependent on the exposure and concentration of decamethoxine.

Antimicrobial properties of a composite based on decamethoxine and modified polysaccharides (carboxymethylamylum, oxyethyl-cellulose) were studied. The composite was shown to have high antimicrobial activity against grampositive and gramnegative bacteria under different conditions of the experiment.

The results of comparative study of antimicrobial properties of decamethoxine and chlorhexidine bigluconate are presented. It is established that resistant to antibiotics strains of pathogens of nosocomial infections were highly susceptible to decamethoxine. Decamethoxine and, to a lesser degree, chlorhexidine bigluconate have a bactericidal effect in treatment of hand skin of the medical staff of surgical department. The authors consider it expedient to use the mentioned preparations for prevention of nosocomial infection.

The development of resistance of collection and freshly isolated S. aureus and C. albicans strains to the antiseptic decamethoxim and an original diarylcyclohexane derivative was studied comparatively in vitro. It was shown that the rate of the resistance development was low. After 20 subcultures in the presence of increasing concentrations of decamethoxin, its sensitivity of S. aureus and C. albicans decreased 16-32 and 16-fold respectively. After 20 subcultures in the presence of increasing doses of the diarylcyclohexane derivative, its sensitivity S. aureus and C. albicans decreased 4- and 4-8-fold, respectively. It was found that in the hospital strains of S. aureus and C. albicans, the antibiotic resistance and sensitivity to decamethoxin and the diarylcyclohexane remained high, which indicated that there was no cross resistance to these compounds in the strains studied.

Comparable antimicrobial and disinfecting action of decamethoxine and silver preparations on pathogens of chronic purulent otitis media (CPOM) was studied. The clinical isolates of staphylococci proved to be most sensitive to decamethoxine whose MBcC conformed to 16.5 micrograms/ml. The antimicrobial action on Proteus spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was less pronounced. The required concentrations for bactericidal action on these pathogens were 69 and 93.5 micrograms/ml, respectively. The antimicrobial activity of the silver preparations such as poviargol, collargol and protargol was low. Depending on the microbial species, the bactericidal effect of the silver preparations was 12-235 times lower than that of decamethoxin. It was also shown that decamethoxin had a high disinfecting action on CPOM pathogens. It was noted that decamethoxin had a marked ability to increase the bactericidal action of poviargol (by 2-14 times) and its disinfecting action (by 2 times) on Proteus spp., E. coli and Ps. aeruginosa.

The authors discuss the results of complex treatment of 286 patients with acute pyoinflammatory diseases of the fingers and hand with the use of a new Soviet-produced antiseptic decametoxin. Panaris was diagnosed in 196 (68.5%), phlegmons and abscesses in 82 (29.7%), furuncle in 6 (2.1%) and carbuncle in 2 (0.7%) patients. 224 (78.4%) patients received out-patient and 62 (21.6%) in-patient treatment. The authors established that as the result of the applied complex treatment with the use of various antiseptic compositions containing decametoxin the mean duration of treatment was 7.8 days. The article discusses the causes of the disease, the methods of operative treatment, and management of patients in the postoperative period.

Dynamic investigation of several immunologic data and complex morphologic study of the thymus of rats fed for a long time (6 months) by very low doses of herbicide simazine have been carried out. Chronic simazine treatment resulted in the development of the secondary immunodeficient state with the damage of T lymphocytes. The morphologic signs of this process were the disarray in thymus structure (dystrophic changes and intercellular contact break of nurse cells, sclerosis of microvessel walls and stromal elements), severe decrease of the T lymphocyte number in peripheral blood, inhibition of phagocytosis reaction of neutrophils.

State of immunologic and nonspecific resistance of the organism, ultra- and histostructure of the thymus, histopathology of the wall of experimental staph abscess reproduced in animals given low doses of the herbicide simazine for a long time have been studied. It is established that simazine induced the immunodeficiency state underlain by pathologic changes in the thymus. Against this background experimental abscesses developed more rapidly, alterative and exudative processes in their wall proceeding more intensively and proliferative ones--attenuating. This provides prolongation of the abscesses healing phase for an indefinite time and chronization of the process.

Small doses of long-term injection of herbicide linuron causes the appearance of secondary immunodeficiency. It is manifested in histological and ultrastructural determination of thymus, severe suppression of immunological indices. Epithelial nurse-cells damage takes place in thymus, the contacts between epithelial cells are destroyed, the reforming of microvessels (their endothelium) occurs which causes the deterioration of vessels penetration and the growth of connective tissue. Against this background a more rapid development of experimental staphylococcus abscesses is observed in animals, the reparation phase being absent.

The authors investigated the effect of long-term use of the herbicide linuron on the histo- and ultrastructure of the thymus and factors of immunological defense. It was found that the use of linuron in animals resulted in development of secondary immunodeficiency states manifested in pathology of the thymic structure, first of all lesions of the epithelial cells-feeders and disorders of immunological indices.

This paper presents results of testing pregnant women for staphylococcal antigen sensitization using immunothermistography (ITG). The ITG is based on registration of environmental heat conduction change with a microthermistor resistor during antigen-antibody reaction. The study group comprised 75 pregnant women immunized by staphylococcal anaphylotoxin and nonimmunized pregnant and nonpregnant women. Blood alfa-antistaphylolysin levels showed a close direct correlation with ITG findings. Combined use of these methods identified a population of pregnant women requiring immunization.

The effect of ampiox combination with a quinoline derivative (QD) on penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus was studied. Combination of ampiox and QD had in vitro a synergistic action. It was shown that the combined use of ampiox in a dose of 5 mg/kg and QD in a dose of 10 mg/kg had a pronounced therapeutic effect in staphylococcal septicemia of albino mice: 95 per cent prevention of death in the experimental animals and lower contamination of the animal internal organs. It was noted that ampiox and QD had different mechanisms of action on the bacterial cell. Therefore, their combination may be used for increasing antistaphylococcal activity of the antibiotic drug.
