RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Kinesiology Taping(KT) is commonly used as a physical therapy to prevent exercise-induced fatigue. This study aims to evaluate the immediate effects of KT on muscle strength, static balance, and proprioception after eccentric muscle fatigue on ankle. METHODS: Twenty healthy male university students were recruited. The experimental protocol was structured into four sessions, each separated by a one-week washout period to prevent carryover effects. Participants were randomly allocated to one of four intervention conditions in each session, ensuring no participant received the same intervention twice. These conditions were: no taping(NT),sham taping(ST),athletic taping(AT),and kinesiology taping(KT).Taping was applied immediately following an eccentric muscle fatigue protocol targeting the ankle, and assessments were conducted in the order of proprioception, muscle strength and static balance. Isometric muscle strength and proprioception were evaluated using the Biodex isokinetic system. Static balance was measured using the TecnoBody balance platform. RESULTS: KT had a significantly higher plantarflexion/dorsiflexion peak torque, dorsiflexion average peak torque, and plantarflexion/dorsiflexion average power at 60°/s compared with NT and ST in terms of isometric muscle strength (p < 0.05).Furthermore, the plantarflexion peak torque of KT was significantly greater than AT at 60°/s[p = 0.005,95% confidence interval(CI) = 3.39 to 18.20] and 180°/s[p = 0.006,95%CI(2.62,21.98)]. In terms of proprioception, KT showed a lower absolute error in 25° plantarflexion and 10° dorsiflexion compared to NT, ST and AT. For static balance with eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions, AT and KT had a lower total sway area than NT and ST (p < 0.05). Additionally, a significant difference in total sway length with eyes-open condition was observed between AT and KT[p < 0.001,95%CI(-431.81,-168.25)];total sway area and the center of pressure(COP) velocity in the mediolateral(ML) and anteroposterior(AP) directions with eyes-closed condition were significantly lower in AT compared to KT. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that KT is more effective than other taping conditions in improving muscle strength and proprioception after eccentric muscle fatigue on ankle. However, AT is more helpful in increasing static postural control ability after ankle muscle fatigue than KT. Objective: To systematically review the effects of different resistance training (RT) protocols on bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the resistance training in improving bone mineral density for postmenopausal women were searched in databases including ProQuest, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science. The retrieval time range was from the establishment of the database to May 2022. The included literature was independently screened and relevant data was extracted by two reviewers. The systematic review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for reviews of quantitative evidence. Quality of risk was assessed using the Physical Therapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale, risk of bias was assessedusing the Cochrane RoB2 tool and a network Meta-analysis was performed on the data using Stata 16.0. Results: A total of 19 studies, which included 919 subjects, were eventually acquired. The results of the network Meta-analysis showed that moderate intensity resistance training was superior in improving lumbar spine bone mineral density (LS BMD) and femoral neck bone mineral density (FN BMD) compared to the control group (as per usual daily life), with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). There was, however, no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of increasing total hip bone mineral density (TH BMD) and trochanter bone mineral density (Troch BMD), although moderate intensity training tends to increase bone mineral density (p > 0.05). In addition, when training frequency is taken into consideration, 3 days/week of moderate intensity training (3MI) was superior to 2 days/week (2MI) in improving lumbar spine bone mineral density , and moderate intensity training was superior to low and high intensity resistance trainings at training frequency of 3 day/week, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). The cumulative probability ranking results indicated that 3MI was the optimal option in improving lumbar spine, femoral neck, total hip and Troch bone mineral density. Subgroup analyses combining interventions time showed that for lumbar spine and femoral neck bone mineral density, 3MI protocol with intervention duration within 1 year (≤48 weeks) had a significant advantage over other interventions, while this advantage was no longer significant with the intervention duration of more than 1 year (>48 weeks). Conclusion: Current evidence shows that moderate intensity resistance training for 3 days/week can be preferred clinically to improve bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, and it is recommended that the duration of the same training should not exceed 1 year. Nevertheless, more high-quality studies are needed to verify the above conclusion.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with stroke usually suffer from varying degrees of movement dysfunction, which seriously affects their quality of life, especially for the upper limb dysfunction. Therefore, this study aims to compare the effects of different repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) modalities on upper limb motor function and daily activities in patients with stroke. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Relevant research will be collected systematically from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Scientific and Journal Database (VIP) about randomised controlled trials of rTMS in the stroke treatment range from the establishment to November 2020. Primary outcomes will be obtained from scales measuring the upper limb motor function like Upper Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale, Wolf Motor Function Test, Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test, Action Research Arm Test and Box and Block Test. The secondary outcomes include modified Barthel Index and adverse events (such as vertigo, headache and epilepsy), with the goal of assessing patients' activities of daily living and the safety of treatment. In order to avoid personal bias in the included studies, two reviewers will conduct the data extraction and quality evaluation independently, and all data analyses will be performed by Generate Mixed Treatment comparison software V.0.14.3 and Stata V.16.0. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The network meta-analysis (NMA) in this study does not require ethical approval because the data analysis will be used only to evaluate the rTMS treatment efficacy without patients' private information. In addition, the results will be disseminated in international conference reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42020212253.
