STUDY OBJECTIVE: HR18034, composed of the ropivacaine encapsulated in multi-lamellar, concentric circular structure liposomes as the major component and a small amount of free ropivacaine, has performed well in animal experiments and phase I clinical trials. This trial was to investigate the efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetic profile and the minimum effective dose of HR18034 for postoperative analgesia after hemorrhoidectomy compared with ropivacaine. DESIGN: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial. SETTING: 19 medical centers in China. PATIENTS: 85 patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy between October 2022 to November 2022. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were randomly divided into HR 18034 190 mg group, 285 mg group, 380 mg group and ropivacaine 75 mg group, receiving single local anesthetic perianal injection for postoperative analgesia. MEASUREMENTS: The primary outcome was the area under the resting state NRS score -time curve within 72 h after injection. The second outcomes included the proportion of patients without pain, the proportion of patients not requiring rescue analgesia, cumulative morphine consumption for rescue analgesia, etc. Safety was evaluated by adverse events incidence and plasma ropivacaine concentrations were measured to explore the pharmacokinetic characteristics of HR18034. MAIN RESULTS: The areas under the NRS score (at rest and moving states)-time curve were significantly lower in HR 18034 380 mg group than ropivacaine 75 mg at 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h after administration. However, this superiority was not observed in HR18034 190 mg group and 285 mg group. There was no difference in cumulative morphine consumption for rescue analgesia between HR 18034 groups and ropivacaine group. CONCLUSIONS: HR 18034 380 mg showed superior analgesic efficacy and equivalent safety compared to ropivacaine 75 mg after hemorrhoidectomy, thus preliminarily determined as minimum effective dose.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) vaccines have been successfully used for the inhibition of gonadal development and function, but current GnRH-based vaccines often present variability in the response. Cross-reactive material 197 (CRM197) has been used as carrier molecules to enhance an immune response to associated antigens. So, the synthetic mammalian tandem-repeated GnRH hexamer (GnRH6) gene was integrated into the expression plasmid pET-21a. Recombinant GnRH6-CRM197 protein was subsequently overexpressed in Escherichia coli strain BL21 and purified through Nickel column affinity chromatography and the antigenicity and biological effects of GnRH6-CRM197 were evaluated in rats. Sixteen 4-month-old adult male rats were randomly divided into two groups: the GnRH6-CRM197 group (n = 8) and the control group (n = 8). The GnRH6-CRM197 group rats were subcutaneously immunized with 100 µg of GnRH6-CRM197, administered thrice at 2-week intervals with GnRH6-CRM197.The control group received only a white oil adjuvant. Following the initial immunization, the weights of animals were recorded, and blood samples were collected from the orbital sinus at 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, and 7 months. Serum antibody titers and testosterone concentrations were quantified using ELISA and CLIA, respectively. Additionally, testicular tissues were collected for morphological examination. The results revealed a significant increase in serum GnRH antibody titers (p < 0.05), but a significant decrease in serum testosterone concentrations (p < 0.05), and the weight, length, width, and girth of the testis, and the number of spermatogonia cells, spermatocytes, and sperm cells in the immunized rats. Furthermore, seminiferous tubules revealed significant atrophy and no sperm were observed in the immunized animals. Thus, GnRH6-CRM197 may be an effective antigen and a potential immunocastration vaccine.

Puberty is considered a prerequisite for affecting reproductive performance and productivity. Little was known about molecular changes in pubertal goat ovaries. Therefore, we measured and performed a correlation analysis of the mRNA and proteins changes in the pre-pubertal and pubertal goat ovaries. The results showed that only six differentially expressed genes and differentially abundant proteins out of 18,139 genes and 7550 proteins quantified had significant correlations. CNTN2 and THBS1, discovered in the mRNA-mRNA interaction network, probably participated in pubertal and reproductive regulation by influencing GnRH receptor signals, follicular development, and ovulation. The predicted core transcription factors may either promote or inhibit the expression of reproductive genes and act synergistically to maintain normal reproductive function in animals. The interaction between PKM and TIMP3 with other proteins may impact animal puberty through energy metabolism and ovarian hormone secretion. Pathway enrichment analyses revealed that the co-associated key pathways between ovarian genes and proteins at puberty included calcium signalling pathway and olfactory transduction. These pathways were associated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone synthesis and secretion, signal transmission, and cell proliferation. In summary, these results enriched the potential molecules and signalling pathways that affect puberty and provided new insights for regulating and promoting the onset of puberty. SIGNIFICANCE: This study conducted the first transcriptomic and proteomic correlation analysis of pre-pubertal and pubertal goat ovaries and identified six significantly correlated molecules at both the gene and protein levels. Meanwhile, we were drawn to several molecules and signalling pathways that may play a regulatory role in the onset of puberty and reproduction by influencing reproductive-related gene expression, GnRH receptor signals, energy metabolism, ovarian hormone secretion, follicular development, and ovulation. This information contributed to identify potential biomarkers in pubertal goat ovaries, which was vital for predicting the onset of puberty and improving livestock performance.

The study aimed to investigate the effect of Grid1, encoding the glutamate ionotropic receptor delta type subunit 1 (GluD1), on puberty onset in female rats. Grid1 mRNA and protein expression was detected in the hypothalamus of female rats at prepuberty and puberty. The levels of Grid1 mRNA in the hypothalamus, the fluorescence intensity in the arcuate nucleus and paraventricular nucleus of the prepubertal rats was significantly lower than pubertal. Additionally, the expression of Grid1 was suppressed in primary hypothalamus cells and prepubertal rat. Finally, investigated the effect of Grid1 knockdown on puberty onset and reproductive performance. Treatment of hypothalamic neurons with LV-Grid1 decreased the level of Grid1 and Rfrp-3 (encoding RFamide-related peptide 3) mRNA expression, but increased the Gnrh (encoding gonadotropin-releasing hormone) mRNA levels. After an ICV injection, the time for the rat vaginal opening occurred earlier. Moreover, Gnrh mRNA expression was increased, whereas Rfrp-3 mRNA expression was decreased in the hypothalamus. The concentration of progesterone (P4) in the serum was significantly decreased compare with control group. Ovary hematoxylin-eosin staining revealed that the LV-Grid1 group mainly contained primary and secondary follicles. The reproductive performance of the rats was not affected by the Grid1 knockdown. Therefore, Grid1 may affect the onset of puberty in female rats by regulating the levels of Gnrh, and Rfrp-3 in the hypothalamus, as well as the concentrations of P4, but not reproduction performance.

BACKGROUND: The dynamic needle tip positioning technique represents an advanced version of the short-axis out-of-plane ultrasound-guided approach employed for radial artery catheterization. The study aimed to explore the most effective insertion site capable of expeditiously and accurately executing the procedure in a clinical setting. METHODS: A prospective randomized controlled study encompassed 246 elective surgery patients necessitating invasive arterial monitoring. Participants were randomly assigned to three distinct groups: Site 1 (targeting the radial styloid process), Site 2 (midway between Sites 1 and 3), and Site 3 (distal one-third of the forearm). The dynamic needle tip positioning technique was implemented across all groups. Crucial parameters, such as first-attempt success rate, time to success, overall success rate, total catheterization time, number of attempts, and complications, were meticulously documented and compared. RESULTS: The Site 2 cohort presented a significantly heightened first-attempt success rate compared to Site 1 (97.5% vs 80%, p = 0.003) and Site 3 (97.5% vs 81.25%, p = 0.006). Moreover, Site 2 displayed a reduced time to success in contrast to Site 1 (31.5 vs 38, p = 0.003) and Site 3 (31.5 vs 40, p = 0.006). Total catheterization time was significantly shorter in Site 2 compared to Site 1 (32 vs 42.5, p < 0.001) and Site 3 (32 vs 43.5, p < 0.001). Site 2 necessitated fewer attempts than Site 1 (p = 0.02) and Site 3 (p = 0.03). Male gender and puncture at Site 2 were associated with expedited time to success. Adverse events manifested more frequently in the Site 3 group compared to the Site 1 group (15% vs 3.75%, p = 0.03) and the Site 2 group (15% vs 2.5%, p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The optimal insertion site for ultrasound-guided radial artery catheterization utilizing the dynamic needle tip positioning technique in adult patients is situated midway between the radial styloid process and the distal one-third of the forearm.

OBJECTIVES: Our purpose was to explore the effect of remifentanil on acute and chronic postsurgical pain after cardiac surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Randomized controlled trials were retrieved from electronic databases, such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Internet databases, Scopus, and Web of Science. A systematic review, meta-analysis, and trial sequential analysis (TSA) were performed. Basic information and outcomes were extracted from the included studies. The primary outcome was chronic postsurgical pain. Secondary outcomes were scores of postsurgical pain and morphine consumption within 24 hours after cardiac surgery. Risk of bias (ROB) assessment was based on the Cochrane ROB tool version 2. The overall quality of the evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system. RESULTS: Seven studies consisting of 658 patients were enrolled in the meta-analysis. A single study had a high ROB and 2 studies had a moderate ROB. The incidence of chronic postsurgical pain (4 studies [415 patients]; risk ratio: 1.02 [95% CI: 0.53 to 1.95]; P = 0.95; I2 = 59%; TSA-adjusted CI: 0.78 to 1.20) and the postsurgical pain score (2 studies [196 patients]; mean difference: 0.09 [95% CI: -0.36 to 0.55]; P = 0.69; I2 = 0%; TSA-adjusted CI: -0.36 to 0.55) were not statistically different between the 2 groups. However, morphine consumption (6 studies [569 patients]; mean difference: 6.94 [95% CI: 3.65 to 10.22]; P < 0.01; I2 = 0%; TSA-adjusted CI: 0.00 to 0.49) was higher in the remifentanil group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: There was not enough evidence to prove that remifentanil can increase the incidence of chronic postsurgical pain after cardiac surgery, but interestingly, the results tended to support a trend toward increased complications in the intervention group. However, there was moderate certainty evidence that the use of remifentanil increases the consumption of morphine for analgesia, and more direct comparison trials are needed to inform clinical decision-making with greater confidence.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of cluster of differentiation 86 (CD86) as a biomarker in high-grade glioma (HGG). The TCGA and TCIA databases were used to obtain the CD86 expression value, clinical data, and MRI images of HGG patients. Prognostic values were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method, Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), Cox regression, logistic regression, and nomogram analyses. CD86-associated pathways were also explored. We found that CD86 was significantly upregulated in HGG compared with the normal group. Survival analysis showed a significant association between CD86 high expression and shorter overall survival time. Its independent prognostic value was also confirmed. These results suggested the possibility of CD86 as a biomarker in HGG. We also innovatively established 2 radiomics models with Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Logistic regression (LR) algorithms to predict the CD86 expression. The 2 models containing 5 optimal features by SVM and LR methods showed similar favorable performance in predicting CD86 expression in the training set, and their performance were also confirmed in validation set. These results indicated the successful construction of a radiomics model for non-invasively predicting biomarker in HGG. Finally, pathway analysis indicated that CD86 might be involved in the natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity in HGG progression.

The rapid development of modern agriculture aggravated water eutrophication. Therein, efficient and selective removal of phosphorus in water is the key to alleviating eutrophication. It is well known that lanthanum (La)-based material is a kind of outstanding phosphorus-locking agent. Therefore, improving the property of La-based adsorbents is a hot topic in this field. Herein, novel porous hydroxyl double salts (La/Bi-HDS) with bimetallic capture sites were prepared. The experimental result shows that La/Bi-HDS could maintain the high removal rate in the solution with a higher concentration of competing ions and the maximum P adsorption quantity of La/Bi-HDS attains 168.12 mg/g. Mechanistic studies supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrate that introducing Bi3+ optimizes the electronic structure of La, reducing adsorption energy. In addition, the surface analysis shows that the introduction of Bi, which increases the pore size and volume of the material, improves the utilization efficiency of the active site. In a word, the introduction of Bi element as a strategy of killing two birds with one stone successfully improved the performance of La-based adsorbent. It provided a new direction for developing an efficient phosphorus-locking agent.

In modern industry, selective extraction and recovery of Cu from strongly acidic electroplating effluent are crucial to reduce carbon emissions, alleviate resource scarcity, and mitigate water pollution, yielding considerable economic and environmental benefits. This study proposed a high-efficiency CuSe electrode to selectively remove Cu from electroplating effluent via hybrid capacitive deionization (HCDI). The potential of this electrode was thoroughly evaluated to assess its effectiveness. The CuSe electrode exhibited superior deionization performance in terms of Cu adsorption capacity, selectivity, and applicability in various water matrices. Specifically, under strong acid conditions (1 M H+), the CuSe electrode maintained an optimal adsorption capacity of 357.36 mg g-1 toward Cu2+. In systems containing salt ions, heavy metals, and actual electroplating wastewater, the CuSe electrode achieved a remarkable removal efficiency of up to 90% for Cu2+ with a high distribution coefficient Kd. Notably, the capacitive deionization (CDI) system demonstrated the simultaneous removal of Cu-EDTA. The removal mechanism was further revealed using ex-situ X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses. Overall, this study presents a practical approach that extends the capabilities of CDI platforms for effectively removing and recovering Cu from acidic electroplating effluent.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to examine the impact of preoperative fibrinogen concentration on the short-term outcomes and hospital length of stay (LOS) of patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). METHODS: Between January 2010 and June 2022, a retrospective analysis comprised 633 patients who sequentially received isolated, primary CABG. These patients were categorized into normal fibrinogen group (fibrinogen < 3.5 g/L) and high fibrinogen group (fibrinogen ≥ 3.5 g/L) according to preoperative fibrinogen concentration. The primary outcome was LOS. To correct for confounding and investigate the effect of preoperative fibrinogen concentration on the short-term outcomes and LOS, we employed propensity score matching (PSM). The correlation between fibriongen concentration and LOS in subgroups was examined using subgroup analysis. RESULTS: We categorized 344 and 289 patients in the "normal fibrinogen group" and "high fibrinogen group", respectively. After PSM, compared to the normal fibrinogen group, the high fibrinogen group had a longer LOS [12.00 (9.00-15.00) vs. 13.00 (10.00-16.00), P = 0.028] and higher incidence of postoperative renal impairment [49 (22.1%) vs. 72 (32.4%), P = 0.014]. Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) or non-CPB CABG patients showed similar correlations between various fibrinogen concentrations and LOS, according to subgroup analyses. CONCLUSIONS: Fibrinogen is an independent preoperative predictor of both the LOS and the postoperative renal impairment that occurs after CABG. Patients with high preoperative fibrinogen concentration had a higher incidence of postoperative renal impairment and a longer LOS, emphasizing the significance of preoperative fibrinogen management.

Microplastics (MPs) pollution has been a hot research topic in recent years. MPs are ubiquitous throughout the ecological environment and are eventually accumulated in organisms through inhalation or ingestion. However, given that MPs are inert pollutants, their effects on organisms are not clear. In previous study, we have investigated the effects of polyethylene terephthalate MPs on physiology of Drosophila. What is the effect of polypropylene microplastics (PP-MPs)? The results of our experiments show that being exposed to high concentration of PP-MPs have significant effect on Drosophila. PP-MPs exposure can significantly increase locomotor activity and shorten the time of group sleep in Drosophila. In the presence of high concentrations of PP-MPs, the triglyceride content was reduced in females and their ability of egg production was affected. However, there was no significant effect on the level of protein and carbohydrate, or on the food intake. Our experimental results can provide some preliminary data for assessing the potential hazard of PP-MPs to other organisms.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a minimally invasive technique to completely peel the pathological mucosa from the submucosa under endoscopy, which has been often utilized to treat early gastric cancer. During the operation, anesthesia is required to reduce the discomfort due to the complexity, high risk, and longtime operation of ESD. In this study, we compared different anesthesia methods on anesthetic effect and postoperative pain in patients (≥65 years old) with early gastric cancer during ESD. For this purpose, 60 patients with early gastric cancer who were more than 65 years old were selected from January 2019 to December 2021, where 30 patients treated with simple intravenous general anesthesia were divided into the simple group and 30 patients treated with intravenous combined inhalation general anesthesia were regarded as the composite group. The hemodynamic index, wake-up time, postoperative pain intensity, operation time, and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. For the hemodynamic index before incision, after incision, and at the end of the operation, the mean arterial pressure (MAP) in the composite group was higher than that in the simple group (P < 0.05) and the heart rate (HR) was lower than that in the simple group (P < 0.05). After the ESD operation, the wake-up time and visual analogue scale (VAS) in the composite group were lower than those in the simple group (P < 0.05). In addition, the ESD operation time and incidence of adverse reactions in the composite group was significantly lower than that in the simple group (P < 0.05). These results showed that intravenous combined inhalation general anesthesia had a good anesthetic effect, stable hemodynamics during ESD operation, and slight postoperative pain.

OBJECTIVE: Mechanical thrombectomy is widely used for acute ischemic stroke caused by middle cerebral artery M2 segment occlusion. However, the comparison between contact aspiration (CA) and stent retriever (SR) used as first-line techniques for acute M2 occlusion is still unclear. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on this issue. METHODS: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement was followed. Three databases (Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane) were searched. The Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used to assess the risk of bias for the included studies. We focused on two main outcomes, the final successful reperfusion (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction mTICI 2b/3) and 90-day functional independence (modified Rankin Scale score 0-2). The meta-analyses were performed using the random-effects models. RESULTS: Seven observational studies were included for systematic review. Only one study indicated a superiority of first-line SR in achieving final successful reperfusion, while the other six studies did not show significant difference between these two techniques. And all the seven studies showed comparable proportion of 90-day functional independence. Five studies were available for meta-analysis with 601 patients (239 received first-line CA, 362 received first-line SR). The pooled results also suggested that the proportion of final successful reperfusion (OR=1.18, 95%CI 0.72-1.93, I2 =0%) and 90-day functional independence (OR=1.18, 95%CI 0.82-1.68, I2 =0%) were comparable between these two strategies. CONCLUSION: For patients with acute M2 occlusion, first-line CA and SR techniques could achieve similar final reperfusion outcomes and 90-day clinical prognosis. Further studies with randomized controlled design are needed.

BACKGROUND: Both stent retriever (SR) and contact aspiration (CA) are widely used as first-line strategies for acute posterior circulation strokes (PCS). However, it is still unclear how CA and SR compare as the first-line treatment of acute PCS. Several new studies have been published recently, so we aimed to perform an updated meta-analysis. METHODS: The meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) statement. Random-effects models were performed to pool the outcomes and the value of I2 was calculated to assess the heterogeneity. RESULTS: Ten observational studies with 1189 patients were included, among whom 492 received first-line CA and 697 received first-line SR. The pooled results revealed that first-line CA could achieve a significantly higher proportion of modified Thrombolysis In Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) 2b/3 (OR 1.90, 95% CI 1.33 to 2.71, I2=0%), mTICI 3 (OR 1.95, 95% CI 1.15 to 3.31, I2=59.6%), first-pass effect (OR 2.91, 95% CI 1.51 to 5.58, I2=0%), lower incidence of new-territory embolic events (OR 0.20, 95% CI 0.05 to 0.83, I2=0%), and shorter procedure time (mean difference -29.4 min, 95% CI -46.8 to -12.0 min, I2=62.8%) compared with first-line SR. At 90-day follow-up, patients subjected to first-line CA showed a higher functional independence (modified Rankin Scale score 0-2; OR 1.38, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.87, I2=23.5%) and a lower mortality (OR 0.71, 95% CI 0.50 to 1.00, p=0.050, I2=0%) than those subjected to first-line SR. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis suggests that the first-line CA strategy could achieve better recanalization and clinical outcomes for acute PCS than first-line SR. Limited by the quality of included studies, this conclusion should be drawn with caution.

Due to conventional photodynamic therapy encountering serious problems of phototoxicity and low tissue-penetrating depth of light, other dynamic therapy-based therapeutic methods such as sonodynamic therapy (SDT) are expected to be developed. To improve the therapeutic response to SDT, more effective sonosensitizers are imperative. In this study, a novel water-soluble iridium(III)-porphyrin sonosensitizer (IrTMPPS) was synthesized and used for SDT. IrTMPPS generated ample singlet oxygen (1O2) under US irradiation and especially showed distinguished US-activatable abilities at more than 10 cm deep-tissue depths. Interestingly, under US irradiation, IrTMPPS sonocatalytically oxidized intracellular NADH, which would enhance SDT efficiency by breaking the redox balance in the tumor. Moreover, IrTMPPS displayed great sonocytotoxicity toward various cancer cells, and in vivo experiments demonstrated efficient tumor inhibition and anti-metastasis to the lungs in the presence of IrTMPPS and US irradiation. This report gives a novel idea of metal-based sonosensitizers for sonotherapy by fully taking advantage of non-invasiveness, water solubility, and deep tumor therapy.

Congenital heterotopic colon and pancreas localized to the neck has not been reported. Herein, we describe an extremely uncommon case of congenital heterotopic colon and pancreas aberrantly presented within a cyst on the neck, and the thickened wall of the cyst on ultrasound may represent an important ultrasonic feature.

The current ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has globally affected the lives of more than one hundred million people. RT-PCR based molecular test is recommended as the gold standard method for diagnosing current infections. However, transportation and processing of the clinical sample for detecting virus require an expert operator and long processing time. Testing device enables on-site virus detection could reduce the sample-to-answer time, which plays a central role in containing the pandemic. In this work, we proposed an intelligent face mask, where a flexible immunosensor based on high density conductive nanowire array, a miniaturized impedance circuit, and wireless communication units were embedded. The sub-100 nm size and the gap between the neighbored nanowires facilitate the locking of nanoscale virus particles by the nanowire arrays and greatly improve the detection efficiency. Such a point-of-care (POC) system was demonstrated for coronavirus 'spike' protein and whole virus aerosol detection in simulated human breath. Detection of viral concentration as low as 7 pfu/mL from the atomized sample of coronavirus aerosol mimic was achieved in only 5 min. The POC systems can be readily applied for preliminary screening of coronavirus infections on-site and may help to understand the COVID-19 progression while a patient is under prescribed therapy.

The Covid-19 pandemic has given rise to stigma, discrimination, and even hate crimes against various populations in the Chinese language-speaking world. Using interview data with victims, online observation, and the data mining of media reports, this paper investigated the changing targets of stigma from the outbreak of Covid-19 to early April 2020 when China had largely contained the first wave of Covid-19 within its border. We found that at the early stage of the pandemic, stigma was inflicted by some non-Hubei Chinese population onto Wuhan and Hubei residents, by some Hong Kong and Taiwan residents onto mainland Chinese, and by some Westerners towards overseas Chinese. With the number of cases outside China surpassing that in China, stigmatization was imposed by some Chinese onto Africans in China. We further explore how various factors, such as the fear of infection, food and mask culture, political ideology, and racism, affected the stigmatization of different victim groups. This study not only improved our understanding of how stigmatization happened in the Chinese-speaking world amid Covid-19 but also contributes to the literature of how sociopolitical factors may affect the production of hate crimes.

Laser repairing and plasma arc repairing experiments on the single-crystal Ni-based superalloy DD407(Ni-7.82Cr-5.34Co-2.25Mo-4.88W-6.02Al-1.94Ti-3.49Ta in wt.%) were carried out in this paper, and the differences in microstructures and mechanical properties varying with depth between the two repairing methods were studied. Comparing the two repairing processes, both the fusion zone can maintain single-crystal epitaxial growth with no significant cracks and have similar fine γ' precipitates. Nevertheless, the columnar-to-equiaxed transition phenomenon occurred on the top of the fusion zone during the laser re-melting process but was not very obvious on the top surface of the fusion zone during the plasma arc re-melting process. In addition, both the DD407 superalloy conducted with the two repairing processes had a large microhardness and a great Young's modulus in the fusion zone.

The heat transfer property of the powder bed greatly affects the performance of a thermochemical heat storage system. Therefore, an accurate evaluation of effective thermal conductivity (ETC) is a key for developing thermochemical heat storage systems. This paper focuses on the ETCs of commonly used porous thermochemical materials, such as MgO/Mg(OH)2 and CaO/Ca(OH)2 powders, as well as the corresponding composites with embedded metal foams. Random sphere-like particles packing (RSPP) method is proposed to reconstruct the microstructures of the powder and micro-scale generation method and computed tomography are adopted for the metal foams. Energy transport equations through porous media are solved by the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to obtain ETC. Results obtained using RSPP-LBM method agree with experimental data better than other existing methods. For thermochemical heat storage, the variation of ETC during chemical reactions is numerically predicted. Metal foam-embedded thermochemical materials are also studied to evaluate the enhancing effects of the metal foams. Results show that ETC of the powders is dominated by the gas phase, whereas that of the metal foam composites is dominated by the metal phase.
