RESUMEN Objetivo. Evaluar la calidad higiénico-sanitaria de la leche bovina de Nariño mediante los recuentos de mesófilos aerobios y de células somáticas y determinar presencia de microorganismos ambientales importantes en salud pública como Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus y Yersinia enterocolítica y evaluar las variaciones de los parámetros de calidad en dos periodos lluviosos diferentes. Materiales y métodos. Se tomaron muestras de leche en 180 predios de cuatro subregiones naturales, en épocas de diferente precipitación. A cada muestra se le realizó recuento de aerobios mesófilos, y el recuento de células somáticas por citometría de flujo, y el de Coliformes totales mediante lectura en placa. La detección de Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7 y Listeria monocytogenes por el sistema de detección molecular MDS 3M, Staphylococcus aureus y Yersinia enterocolitica por microbiología convencional. Resultados. Los recuentos de células somáticas fueron superiores en la época de altas precipitaciones. La mediana de los recuentos de mesófilos y coliformes totales fue de 20.085 UFC/ml, 265 UFC/ml respectivamente sin diferencias significativas en los dos periodos. No se detectó Salmonella spp. ni E. coli O157/H7. No se observaron diferencias significativas en la frecuencia de presentación de Listeria sp., L. monocytogenes, Y. enterocolítica, Staphylococcus aureus y Staphylococcus coagulasa negativa entre los dos periodos de lluvia evaluados". Conclusiones. Se observó que el 80% de las muestras de leche analizadas en este estudio cumplen con los estándares de calidad higiénico-sanitaria y no se observó influencia de la época de muestreo sobre la calidad higiénica de la leche.
ABSTRACT Objective. The aim of this study is to evaluate the hygienic and sanitary quality of bovine milk from dairy farms of Nariño, Colombia by determining the presence of environmental microorganisms of public health importance such as Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Yersinia enterocolitica and to evaluate the impact that the rainy seasons have on milk quality Materials and methods. Milk samples were taken in 180 farms located in four natural subregions, both in the high rainfall season and in the low rainfall season. Mesophilic aerobic count, a somatic cell count by automated methods, and a total coliform count in 3M Petrifilm® plates were done to each milk sample. Detection of Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes was done by the 3M MDS system, Staphylococcus aureus and Yersinia enterocolitica were isolated by conventional microbiology techniques. Results. The highest somatic cell counts were found during the high rain season. The median of the mesophilic, total coliform and somatic cell counts were 20,085 CFU/ml, 265 CFU/ml and 219,170 cells/ml, respectively, with no significant differences in the two rainy periods. Neither Salmonella spp. nor E. coli O157/H7 were detected. There was no significant difference among the presence of Listeria sp., L. monocytogenes, Y. enterocolitica, Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase negative Staphylococcus between the two rainy seasons. Conclusions. 80% of the milk samples met the hygienic and sanitary quality standards and no influence of the sampling period on the hygienic quality of the milk was observed.
RESUMO
Leptospirosis is the most widespread zoonosis worldwide, causing severe effects on beef and dairy cattle farming and other livestock. Colombia geographical location in the tropical zone, high biodiversity, and climatic conditions promote Leptospira growth and prevalence. This review article presents state-of-the-art knowledge about the effects of leptospirosis on bovine reproduction and a critical analysis of the research carried out in Colombia. The analysis of the information allows us to infer a sustained increase in prevalence over the last decade in the densest livestock production areas and a high serovar diversity of circulating pathogenic Leptospira. Given the zoonotic nature of leptospirosis, an inter-institutional effort is required to implement prevention, control, and monitoring programs under one-health concept.

Chlamydia abortus is a Gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterium, responsible for abortions and reproductive problems. The disease has a high zoonotic potential and causes great economic losses in ruminant farmers. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 514 cattle from 24 farms of Villavicencio, Colombia. The blood samples were collected from each individual animal and analyzed by Indirect Elisa for immunoglobulin G (IgG) in blood serum (Idexx Chlamydiosis total Ab test). A serum was considered positive when the optical density (OD) of the sample was ≥30% of that of the positive control serum. Data on potential risk factors associated with the disease were collected through a questionnaire in each farm and analyzed. The individual and herd prevalence was estimated. A risk factors analysis was performed through univariate and multivariable using the software SPSS version 20. The animal level seroprevalence was found to be 47.1% and the herd 91.6%. The prevalence in cattle aged 0-1, 1-3 and >4 years was 23.8%; 31.4% and 51.4% respectively. The risk factors associated with the prevalence of disease were female sex (OR = 2.102 CI: 1.066-4.144), age older than 4 years (OR = 2.707 CI: 1.667-4.394), presence of canines on the farm (OR = 2.556 CI: 1.560-4.189) and retention of placenta (OR = 2.678 CI: 1.670-4.295). A high prevalence was identified, suggesting natural infection where the pathogen could be transmitted to humans at the animal-human interface.
RESUMO
Staphylococcus spp. is one of the pathogens that cause bovine mastitis and may present multiple resistance to different antimicrobial groups. The aim of this study was to phenotypically identify Staphylococcus spp. isolates obtained from bovine milk and to characterize their antimicrobial resistance profile. The 101 strains were classified by phenotypic tests, their resistance to oxacillin, cefoxitin, penicillin, ampicillin, tetracycline, kanamycin, sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim, clindamycin and erythromycin was determined by the Kirby-Bauer technique and the presence of resistance genes by PCR. A total of 65 strains was S. aureus and 36 strains were coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS). We found different patterns of resistance to antibiotics evaluated in strains of S. aureus and CoNS, only the resistance to ampicillin was found associated with the species (p<0.005). In the 101 strains, the mecA gene was detected in 27%, aph(3')-IIIa in 75.2%, aac(6')/aph(2")-3 in 47.4%, ant(4')-Ia in 32.7%, tetM in 63% and tetK in 43.6%; however, no association was found with the resistance to penicillin, ampicillin, cefoxitin, kanamycin and tetracycline, respectively (p>0.05). On the other hand, the blaZ gene was found in 59.4% of the 101 strains and the ermCgene in 62.3%, which was associated with resistance to ß-lactams and macrolides, respectively (p<0.001). In this study, antimicrobial multiresistance was found in S. aureus and CoNS strains. This finding impacts on the dairy industry, representing a risk to public health.

Objetivo: Determinar seroprevalencia por la prueba de MAT a seis serovares de Leptospira spp. en el grupo de riesgo: auxiliares y veterinarios de consultorios de pequeños animales de Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia, que previamente había sido serorreactor por Elisa-Pambio. Materiales y métodos: Se tomaron 72 muestras de sueros de individuos pertenecientes al subgrupo de auxiliares y veterinarios, de una población mayor que incluía otros 7 grupos humanos a riesgo a Leptospira spp. y que había presentado reactividad serológica considerada como positiva (17 %) a la prueba de Elisa para Leptospira spp. con un kit de Pambio. Los sueros, que se habían conservado a -70°C en el Laboratorio de Reproducción y Genética Animal de la Universidad de los Llanos, fueron evaluados para reactividad serológica a la prueba de microaglutinaciónlisis (MAT) con los serovares L. hardjopra- jitno, L. copenhageni, L. canícola, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. autumnalis, L. bratislava, L. australis y L. pomona. Se utilizó el protocolo de laboratorio del Programa Nacional de Investigación en Salud Animal de corpoica-ceisa. Resultados: La seropositidad a MAT fue 26.4%. En los auxiliares 21% y los veterina- rios 29%. La seropositidad por serovar fue L. bratislava 24%, L. australis 8%, L. copenhageni 6%, L. canícola 3%, L. autumnalis y L. hardjoprajitno 1%. No se encontraron reactores a icterohaemorrhagiae y pomona. Los títulos serológicos estuvieron en un rango entre 1:25 y 1:400. La copositividad entre MAT y ELISA IgM fue 42% y la conegatividad 77%. Conclusiones: La seropositidad en el grupo estudiado es alta y preocupante, por lo tanto, exige extremar las medidas de bioseguridad durante la práctica médico veterinaria...
Objective: Determining to six serovares Leptospira spp. seroprevalence in assistants and veterinarians working in small animal consulting rooms in Villavicencio, Meta Colombia that previously had been seroreactor for Elisa-Pambio. Materials and Methods: 72 sera samples were taken from a subgroup of individuals consisting of assistants and veterinarians, in turn forming part of a larger population which included another 7 human groups at risk of becoming infected by Leptospira spp.; a cross-sectional epidemiological model was used and subjects were chosen by convenience. The sera had remained frozen (-70°C) in the Universidad de los Llanos Animal Reproduction and Genetics laboratory since being obtained. A commercial indirect ELISA kit (Pambio) was used for determining IgM antibodies. hardjoprajitno, copenhageni, canícola, icterohaemorrhagiae, autumnalis, bratislava, australis and pomona serovars were used in the microscopic agglutination test (MAT). The protocol of laboratory of the national program of investigation in animal health of CORPOICA-CEISA was used. Results: MAT seropositivity was 26.4% (21% in assistants and 29% in veterinarians) Seropositivity by serovar was: 24% bratislava, 8% australis, 6% copenhageni, 3% canícola, 1% autumnalis and hardjoprajitno. No reactors to icterohaemorrhagiae and pomona were found. Serological titres ranged from 1:25 to 1:400.
