RESUMO

Millions of people worldwide visit, live or work in the hypoxic environment encountered at high altitudes and it is important to understand the biomolecular responses to this stress. This would help design mitigation strategies for high altitude illnesses. In spite of a number of studies spanning over 100 years, still the complex mechanisms controlling acclimatization to hypoxia remain largely unknown. To identify potential diagnostic, therapeutic and predictive markers for HA stress, it is important to comprehensively compare and analyse these studies. Towards this goal, HighAltitudeOmicsDB is a unique resource that provides a comprehensive, curated, user-friendly and detailed compilation of various genes/proteins which have been experimentally validated to be associated with various HA conditions, their protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and gene ontology (GO) semantic similarities. For each database entry, HighAltitudeOmicsDB additionally stores the level of regulation (up/down-regulation), fold change, study control group, duration and altitude of exposure, tissue of expression, source organism, level of hypoxia, method of experimental validation, place/country of study, ethnicity, geographical location etc. The database also collates information on disease and drug association, tissue-specific expression level, GO and KEGG pathway associations. The web resource is a unique server platform that offers interactive PPI networks and GO semantic similarity matrices among the interactors. These unique features help to offer mechanistic insights into the disease pathology. Hence, HighAltitudeOmicsDBis a unique platform for researchers working in this area to explore, fetch, compare and analyse HA-associated genes/proteins, their PPI networks, and GO semantic similarities. The database is available at http://www.altitudeomicsdb.in .

RESUMO

The uncontrolled growth and spread of aberrant cells characterize the group of disorders known as cancer. According to GLOBOCAN 2022 analysis of cancer patients in either developed countries or developing countries the main concern cancers are breast cancer, lung cancer, and liver cancer which may rise eventually. Natural substances with dietary origins have gained interest for their low toxicity, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. The evaluation of dietary natural products as chemopreventive and therapeutic agents, the identification, characterization, and synthesis of their active components, as well as the enhancement of their delivery and bioavailability, have all received significant attention. Thus, the treatment strategy for concerning cancers must be significantly evaluated and may include the use of phytochemicals in daily lifestyle. In the present perspective, we discussed one of the potent phytochemicals, that has been used over the past few decades known as curcumin as a panacea drug of the "Cure-all" therapy concept. In our review firstly we included exhausted data from in-vivo and in-vitro studies on breast cancer, lung cancer, and liver cancer which act through various cancer-targeting pathways at the molecular level. Now, the second is the active constituent of turmeric known as curcumin and its derivatives are enlisted with their targeted protein in the molecular docking studies, which help the researchers design and synthesize new curcumin derivatives with respective implicated molecular and cellular activity. However, curcumin and its substituted derivatives still need to be investigated with unknown targeting mechanism studies in depth.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Antimicrobial resistance among the bacteria present in ready-to-eat foods like vegetable salads is an emerging concern today. The current study was undertaken to investigate the presence of multi-drug resistant extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL) producing E. coli and Salmonella spp. in raw vegetable salads served at hotels and restaurants in Bharatpur. A total of 216 salad samples were collected from three different grades of hotels and restaurants and examined for the presence of E. coli and Salmonella spp. in Microbiology laboratory of Birendra Multiple Campus by conventional microbiological techniques. RESULTS: Out of 216 samples, 66 samples (35.2%) showed the presence of Salmonella spp. whereas E. coli was recovered from 29 (13.4%) samples of which 3 samples harbored E. coli O157: H7. Antibiotic susceptibility testing revealed that 9 (13.6%) Salmonella and 4 (13.8%) E. coli isolates were detected as multi-drug resistant. Total ESBL producers reported were 5 (7.57%) Salmonella and 4 (13.8%) E. coli. The study also assessed a significant association between occurrence of E. coli and Salmonella with different grades of hotels and restaurants, personal hygiene and literacy rate of chefs and with the type of cleaning materials used to wash knives and chopping boards (p < 0.05). The findings suggest an immediate need of attention by the concerned authorities to prevent the emergence and transmission of food-borne pathogens and infections antimicrobial resistance among them.
