PM10 in the ambient air of Chandrapur coal mine and its comparison with other environments.

This study compares the ambient air particulate matter (PM10) data of 15 different coal mine environments. For most of these mine environments, the monitoring was carried out by different researchers using respirable dust sampler (RDS) that separates PM10 by centrifugal inertial separation. At two sites--Padmapur and Ghugus (Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India)--mass inertial impaction-based sampler was used for PM10 monitoring. It is observed that the spatiotemporal average value of ambient air PM10 monitored using mass inertial impactor reports relatively higher values (240-372 µg/m(3)) compared to those monitored using RDS (<227 µg/m(3)). In order to realize the severity of mine area pollution, it is compared with PM10 values found in an urban area (Delhi, India). It is found that PM10 values in Delhi (using mass inertial impactor) are much higher (300-400 µg/m(3)) than those reported for the mine environment. The data seems to indicate that the mine environment is relatively cleaner than urban air and therefore raises doubt about the appropriateness of using either mass impactor or RDS for PM10 sampling.

Development of novel, alternative, facile, ecofriendly, high yield synthetic process for prazosin.

Industrial chemistry in the new millennium is widely adopting the concept of "Green chemistry" to meet the fundamental scientific challenges. Antihypertensive drugs include several of the most widely prescribed drugs like diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, and α-1 adrenoreceptor blockers. The discovery of prazosin, with very high index of α1/α2 affinity has triggered off a renaissance of interest in α1-adrenoceptor antagonist drugs for treatment of hypertension. The three reported routes for synthesis and manufacture of the α-adrenoceptor antagonist- prazosin had some disadvantages. In present study we had developed new methods for the synthesis of prazosin by using microwave. The most important aspect is the overall yield of this process was ~25 % higher than the other reported methods excluding the use of banned substances.

Validated HPTLC Method for Simultaneous Determination of Quinapril Hydrochloride and Hydrochlorothiazide in a Tablet Dosage Form.

Quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide were simultaneously determined by HPTLC in pharmaceutical formulations. The drugs were separated on silica gel 60 F(254) plates using suitable combination of solvents as mobile phase. The validation parameters, tested in accordance with the requirements of ICH guidelines, prove the suitability of methods.

Electrolyte diffusion of cesium bromide in water at 25 degrees C.

Electrolyte diffusion coefficients of CsBr in water have been measured using 137Cs isotope with an open ended capillary technique without stirring. The measurements were done at 25 degrees C over the concentration range of 10(-6) -0.25 M and the measured values are compared with the theoretical values of diffusion coefficients estimated on the basis of Onsager-Fuoss theory. At low concentrations, there is a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical values of diffusion coefficients. The deviations at higher concentrations are explained on the basis of the occurrence of ion-ion interactions.
