RESUMO
In 42 children aged 2 months to 16 years who had foreign bodies and blind wounds in the maxillofacial region, the authors examined the causes of damages which had caused penetration of foreign bodies into this anatomical part. Clinical examinations showed that there was a relationship between age, the nature of damage, and the variety of foreign bodies in children in contrast to adults. A working scheme was proposed, which reflects the nature of foreign bodies and blind maxillofacial wounds depending on the physiological periods of childhood.

Analysis of late results of treatment of carcinoma of the lower lip in 106 patients followed up for 4-5 years has confirmed that these results are worse if a patient consults a doctor late and if the process is disseminated. Our data evidence that late results do not depend on the method used to manage the primary focus on the lip, though radiotherapy may be considered as the optimal treatment modality. Histologic study of operation material after preventive surgery has not revealed metastases to regional lymph nodes, therefore if the lymph nodes are clinically intact, a dynamic follow-up is recommended after the primary focus is cured.

An original method for the diagnosis of and monitoring the course of the mandibular fracture healing is suggested, making use of a graded indirect load of the chin. Clear-cut quantitative objective regularities in the time course of the pain sensitivity threshold values during the load have been detected, depending on the fragment localization, dislocation, and methods for fragment fixation. The knowledge of these regularities helps assess the efficacy of treatment, the quality of the fragments fixation, and the scope of rehabilitation measures for patients with mandibular fractures.
