RESUMO

The ARGO-USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle for ARchaeological GeO-application) is a technological project involving a marine drone aimed at devising an innovative methodology for marine geological and geomorphological investigations in shallow areas, usually considered critical areas to be investigated, with the help of traditional vessels. The methodological approach proposed in this paper has been implemented according to a multimodal mapping technique involving the simultaneous and integrated use of both optical and geoacoustic sensors. This approach has been enriched by tools based on artificial intelligence (AI), specifically intended to be installed onboard the ARGO-USV, aimed at the automatic recognition of submerged targets and the physical characterization of the seabed. This technological project is composed of a main command and control system and a series of dedicated sub-systems successfully tested in different operational scenarios. The ARGO drone is capable of acquiring and storing a considerable amount of georeferenced data during surveys lasting a few hours. The transmission of all acquired data in broadcasting allows the cooperation of a multidisciplinary team of specialists able to analyze specific datasets in real time. These features, together with the use of deep-learning-based modules and special attention to green-compliant construction phases, are the particular aspects that make ARGO-USV a modern and innovative project, aiming to improve the knowledge of wide coastal areas while minimizing the impact on these environments. As a proof-of-concept, we present the extensive mapping and characterization of the seabed from a geoarchaeological survey of the underwater Roman harbor of Puteoli in the Gulf of Naples (Italy), demonstrating that deep learning techniques can work synergistically with seabed mapping methods.

RESUMO

This paper demonstrates that accurate data concerning bathymetry as well as environmental conditions in shallow waters can be acquired using sensors that are integrated into the same marine vehicle. An open prototype of an unmanned surface vessel (USV) named MicroVeGA is described. The focus is on the main instruments installed on-board: a differential Global Position System (GPS) system and single beam echo sounder; inertial platform for attitude control; ultrasound obstacle-detection system with temperature control system; emerged and submerged video acquisition system. The results of two cases study are presented, both concerning areas (Sorrento Marina Grande and Marechiaro Harbour, both in the Gulf of Naples) characterized by a coastal physiography that impedes the execution of a bathymetric survey with traditional boats. In addition, those areas are critical because of the presence of submerged archaeological remains that produce rapid changes in depth values. The experiments confirm that the integration of the sensors improves the instruments' performance and survey accuracy.

RESUMO

The relationship between autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and psychotic disorders (PD) is a focus of continued interest. There are substantial conceptual and clinical difficulties associated with diagnosing comorbid PD in individuals who have ASD. In this case series, we report on five cases where adolescents with previously diagnosed ASD were also diagnosed as psychotic. In each case, we found that these patients' 'psychotic' symptoms could be better understood as a part of their underlying ASD diagnosis, with significant implications for treatment, prognosis, and access to services. This misdiagnosis likely represents a combination of adult psychiatrists being relatively inexperienced with this population, and the system of care requiring providers to apply diagnostic labels to justify inpatient hospitalization.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Hot flashes are common side effect due to androgen ablation therapy (AAT). The utility of acupuncture for hot flashes in men has not been thoroughly studied. We prospectively studied the effect of acupuncture in men with hot flashes. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The study was approved by internal review board. Seventeen men with hot flashes and history of AAT for prostate cancer were enrolled. Three men declined participation before receiving any treatment. A hot flash score (HFS) was used to measure daily hot flashes. The composite daily score was calculated as the product of frequency × severity. The baseline daily scores were compared with scores taken at 2 and 6 weeks and at 8-month average follow-up. RESULTS: No side effects were encountered during, immediately after treatment, or at 8 months. The mean initial HFS was 28.3; it dropped to 10.3 (p = 0.0001) at 2 weeks posttreatment, 7.5 (p = 0.0001) at 6 weeks, and 7.0 (p = 0.001) at 8 months. Clinical improvement for each patient is defined as the percent decrease in the mean HFS at each time point. The mean improvement at Weeks 2 and 6 was 68.4% (mean HFS decreased from 37.409 to 11.836, p = 0.001) and 89.2% (mean HFS decreased from 37.409 to 4.05, p = 0.0078) respectively. The improvement at 8 months was 80.3% (mean HFS decreased from 37.409 to 7.385, p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture provides excellent control of hot flashes in men with a history of AAT. The absence of side effects and the durable response at 8 months are likely to be appealing to patients. Prospective randomized study is warranted to further evaluate this modality against medical therapy.
