[Lipoxygenase from the leaves of wheat grown under different water supply conditions].

Lipoxygenase (LOG) in protein fractions isolated from the leaves of substituted wheat lines was investigated. Three molecular forms of the enzyme were detected. A water deficiency caused the induction of a membrane-bound form (mLOG) and resulted in a decrease in the activity of "soluble" enzymes (s1LOG) and (s2LOG) in most genotypes. A correlation analysis demonstrated the dependence between the level of enzymatic activity and indices of resistance to drought. A genetic control of the s 1 LOG and s2LOG activity at an optimal water supply level was associated with chromosomes 1A, 1D, 3A, 5A, 5B, and 5D, while under the conditions of the modeled soil drought, it was associated with chromosomes 1B and 1D.

[The effect of inoculation with Rhizobium leguminosarum on the contents of cytoplasmic protein and free amino acids in the roots of pea seedlings].

The changes in the contents of protein and free amino acids in pea plants inoculated with Rhizobium leguminosarum were studied taking into account the susceptibility of roots to root nodule bacteria. The content of cytoplasmic protein during infection increased in the actively growing root region (0-5 mm) and decreased in the root regions susceptible to rhizobia (5-20 mm from the root tip). The quantitative composition of free amino acids changed essentially upon inoculation of pea seedlings with R. leguminosarum.

[The effect of intercultivar substitution of wheat Triticum aestivum L. chromosomes on lipoxygenase activity and its correlation with the technological properties of flour].

The effects of intercultivar substitution of individual chromosome pairs (except for 1B, 6D, and 7A) in the wheat cultivars Saratovskaya 29 and Janetzkis Probat, differing in quality, on specific lipoxygenase activity, the grain yield per spike, and the main technological properties of flour and dough were studied. It was demonstrated that the substitution of individual chromosomes of the recipient cultivar Saratovskaya 29 with the homologous chromosomes of the donor cultivar Janetzkis Probat caused significant changes in lipoxygenase activity and several other quality characteristics. The correlations between the lipoxygenase activity and the parameters of physical dough properties were determined. Three molecular forms of lipoxygenase (Lpx-1, Lpx-2, and Lpx-3), differing in the value of surface charge and enzymatic activity, were detected by native PAGE.

Activities of oxygen-dependent thiol: O2 oxidoreductase (EC 1.8.3.2) and glutathione-dependent thiol: protein-disulfide oxidoreductase (EC 1.8.4.2) as well as technological value of seven soft spring wheat cultivars grown on different soil under contrasting climatic conditions (Krasnodar krai and Irkutsk oblast) were studied. It was found that the ratio of these enzymatic activities correlated positively with dough physical properties and flour bread-baking quality.

Acute peritonitis has been found present on 512 out of 4303 serial postmortem examinations performed over the past 10 years in the city of Izhevsk, giving the overall rate of 11.9%, but the rates were higher in older age groups. The conditions more commonly complicated by peritonitis were inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of abdominal organs. In 47% of the cases, peritonitis developed postoperatively, predominantly as a result of incompetence of anastomotic suture lines. In 26.9% of the cases, the peritonitis was not recognized during the patient's life, and in a majority of these it was in an early phase of development. The nature and extent of peritonitis varied both with the bodily reactivity and with the site and duration of the peritonitis itself. The peritoneal inflammations arising in inflammatory destructive conditions were generally of short duration and serous or serofibrous in type, whereas those of neoplastic or other origins were longer-lasting and displayed a purulent exudate. In cases where the peritonitis was in an early phase, the immediate causes were more diverse and included, in addition to intoxication (detailed mechanisms of which remain undisclosed), shock, thromboembolism, hepatorenal or cardiovascular failure, sepsis, and hemorrhage.

Krabbe's globoid leukodystrophy was observed in a girl of 6 months. The pathological diagnosis of the disease is based on the oligodendroglia cell damage, nerve fibre demyelinization and presence of giant multi-nuclear globoid cells.
