RESUMO

The aim of this study was the investigation of bronchial reactivity in human bronchial smooth muscle in vitro. In fact, the study has two purposes: to achieve the best methods of research on human bronchial strips reactivity in vitro; to reveal the effect of acetylcholine and histamine on bronchial smooth muscle; The contractile effect of acetylcholine appears at 10(-6) M in the organ-bath; the maximal acetylcholine contraction was obtained at 10(-3) M in the organ-bath. Histamine induced a maximal contraction at 10(-3) M, but a concentration of 10(-3) M in the organ bath had no effect.

RESUMO

30 women, aged between 21 and 52, with 2nd and 3rd grade obesity were investigated. Total lipids, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, tryglicerides and lipoprotein electrophoretic fractions from blood plasma were determined. The subjects were tested at a submaximal exercise intensity of a triangular type on the ergometric bicycle, starting from zero Watt to a progressive increasing load of 10 Watt/min., till the maximal optimal heart rate was reached. The heart rate, blood pressure, CO2 produced and O2 consumption were determined at rest, during exercise at each step, and in the recovery period, predicted the maximum oxygen consumption, evaluated by the Astrand method. The subjective sensation concerning the effort was taken into consideration, based on the modified Borg scale and adaptability to exercise was evaluated, expressed by the "adaptability coefficient" (AC). The index of correlation between the plasma lipid fractions and AC was also determined. Lipidograma showed modifications of 94.44 percent of which 27.77 percent belonged to type IV of H-LP. AC diminished to 50.2 percent as opposed to the ideal values; the maximum oxygen consumption was diminished as well, with an important functional aerobic impairment. There was not found a statistically significant correlation between plasma lipid fractions and AC.

RESUMO

The submaximal triangular-type test was used for studying the adaptive capacity, on an ergometric bicycle. It was performed continuously, starting from O W, with a load increment of 10 watts/min up to optimal maximum heart rate (fmo). The heart rate, arterial blood pressure, electrocardiogram, CO2 output and O2 consumption computed maximal O2 consumption (VO2 max, ml/kg/min) (Astrand) were predicted, also taking into consideration the subjective sensations linked to effort, measured on a modified Borg scale. The capacity to effort was expressed by the "adaptability coefficient" (AC) according to formula: AC = W' divided by 2 + (W' --f). 40 hyperthyroid patients, compared to a lot of normal thyroid subjects were examined, both at the beginning and after the treatment at certain intervals of time. A decrease of the effort capacity before the treatment and its increase after was noticed in hyperthyroid patients.

RESUMO

In order to evaluate the adaptability to effort there was used the submaximal test of the triangular type on the bicycle ergometer with a progressively increasing load of 10 W/min until the optimum maximum heart rate (fno) was reached. The heart rate, blood pressure, CO2 produced and O2 consumption were investigated, calculating the maximum oxygen consumption and that of the "adaptability coefficient". The external ventilation parameters were determined by spirography. There were examined 49 pupils of both sexes, aged between 10 and 15, of different physical condition, some of them presenting overweight. It was noticed that the children practising sport showed the best adaptation capacity to effort. Between the untrained and overweight children the differences were unsignificant, with the exception that the overweight children showed a diminished VO2 max. ml/kg/min.

RESUMO

Oral administration of thyroid powder for 21 days produces hyperglycemia, hypocholesterolemia, increase of the energetic metabolism ratio and diminishing of the anaerobic metabolism ratio. Prolonged oral administration (30--45 days) induces involution of the thyroid gland, symptoms of an aggravated thyrotoxic hepatosis, hypoglycemia, hypocholesterolemia, a significant increase of the energetic metabolism and of the anaerobic metabolism ratios.

RESUMO

Investigations were performed in 40 male albino rats, mean weight 150 g, fed a standard diet and subjected to the action of cold for 8 days. The histological picture of the thyroid gland indicated a hyperfunction in accordance with the increase of oxygen intake, weight loss, an increase in glycemia, lactate, pyruvate and cholesterol.

RESUMO

Investigations were performed in male rats weighing 120-200 g, fed a standard diet and kept at a temperature of 22 degrees C +/- 2. Of these rats 20 belonged to the control batch and 20 were subjected to bilateral adrenalectomy in one single time. Seven days following adrenalectomy natremia, potassemia and total blood cholesterol were determined, as checking parameters of the lack of the adrenal gland and the values of glycemia, lactacidemia and pyruvemia were studied, the lactate/pyruvate ratio being computed. A significant decrease in glycemia, lactacidemia and pyruvemia, as well as in the lactate/pyruvate ratio was found.
