[Assay for serum fructosamine in diabetes]. / Il dosaggio della fruttosamina sierica nella malattia diabetica.

The serum fructosamine and some metabolic parameters such as glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, cholesterol and triglycerides were evaluated in 190 diabetics and 80 controls. A good correlation of fructosamine values with glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin was found. These results and the high precision of fructosamine test confirm the importance of fructosamine determination for the evaluation of glycometabolic control in diabetics.

The results of a study conducted on a group of local beekeepers are presented. Total IgE and specific IgE for bee and wasp venom were assayed and these data correlated with anamnestic details obtained by means of a questionnaire.

[Tissue polypeptide antigen: significance and prospective use in the clinical laboratory]. / L'antigene polipeptidico tessutale: significato e prospettive di impiego nel laboratorio clinico.

Sequential determination of tissue polypeptide antigen were carried out in patients with neoplastic diseases. Blood specimens were taken before surgery and one week, one month and every months after the operation. The values obtained were compared with those of a control group of blood donors and those of a control group of healthy persons. The values obtained in control groups suggest that alcohol could cause significant increase of tissue polypeptide antigen values.

[A case of lymph node aspergillosis]. / Su di un caso di aspergillosi linfonodale.

Lymph node aspergillosis in an otherwise healthy patient receiving neither antibiotic corticosteroid or immunodepressive drug treatment is an uncommon event. In addition the case reported revealed no deficiency in humoral or cellular immunity. The possibility that aspergillosis may occur in cases without identifiable immunodeficiency is therefore put forward.

[Alpha2-macroglobulin in diabetic disease and in its microangiopathic complications]. / L'alfa2-macroglobulina nella malattia diabetica e nelle sue complicanze microangiopatiche.

The role of alfa2-macroglobulin in diabetic microangiopathy pathogenesis is described. A study of the behaviour of this protein in a group of diabetic patients with and without microangiopathy and in a control group of healthy patients has been carried out. It has been found that the protein greatly increases in diabetic patients with microangiopathy. On the basis of these results, it is suggested that dosage of alfa2-macroglobulin can be a possible test for evaluating microangiopathic complications in diabetes.

A case of myelofibrosis developing in a peripheral leukaemia-type situation after splenectomy is presented. An examination of the hypotheses on the pathogenesis of myeloid metaplasia during myelofibrosis lead to the proposition that it may be caused by the "seeding" of medullary precursors in the spleen.

[Diagnostic and prognostic significance of blood lipids in assessing the atherogenic risk]. / Significato diagnostico e predittività dei lipidi ematici nella valutazione del rischio aterogenico.

In order to recognize laboratory tests suitable for atherogenic risk evaluation, the authors compare several chemical determinations in a population of patients with atherosclerotic vasculopathia and in a control group. By the examination of results the authors propose ApoB immunochemical determination as the test more simple and more significant.

A case of fatal, diffused plasmacytoma is presented. The picture also included leukaemia and is felt to be an example of plasma-cell leukaemia, as opposed to plasmacytoma in the light of the anatomical and clinical features of the onset and course: high and very pronounced plasma-cell leukocytosis, diffuse proliferation of the plasma cell series in the bone marrow, spleen and lymph nodes, infiltration of plasma cells in the parenchymal organs, extremely rapid progress with serious anaemia, haemorrhage, general organic involvement, high fever, and infection.
