RESUMO

Hip bone mineral density (BMD) and serum markers of bone turnover during drug (antiresorptic medicaments) and non-drug (acceleration training) therapy in elderly women suffering from postmenopausal osteoporosis has been investigated. The hip BMD measured in elderly women after a 24-week antiresorptic therapy (alendronate) and increased by 2.01%. 24-week acceleration training resulted in 1.56% benefit in hip BMD and also serum levels of osteocalcin (+50%, p < 0.05) significantly increased in postmenopausal women. We have determined that the osteogenic effect of acceleration training is mediated by stimulated bone formation. Our findings suggest that whole body vibration (acceleration) training may be a beneficial technique to prevent and treat osteoporosis.

RESUMO

Vibration biomechanical stimulation as the physiological basis of vibration physical exercises (whole body vibration) causes reflecting muscle contractions like tonic vibration reflex. This type of intervention leads to high intensive stimulation of proprioceptors as called muscle spindles which result in alteration in parameters of activity and developments of human physiological functions. This type of training has broad positive influence on organism. Acceleration physical exercises improve muscle performance, flexibility, nervous function, significantly increase bone mineral density, physiological secretion of anabolic hormones, growth and anti-aging factors; normalize/decrease cortisol as anti-stress effect and are beneficial for balance and mobility as well. It is showed acceleration training caused by vibration stimulus is beneficial for people suffering from osteoporosis and obesity, for rehabilitation of nervous and motor function in patients with Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and stroke.

RESUMO

Power spectral analysis of inspiratory discharges of C3-C5 ventral roots in brainstem-spinal cord preparation from foetal (18 and 20 gestation days) and newborn (0-1 and 2-3 postnatal days) rats was performed. The respiratory centre perinatal development manifests itself by decreasing of respiratory rhythm variability and increasing of inspiratory burst duration. In foetal inspiratory bursts, low-frequency oscillations (1-10 Hz) dominate. In early postnatal stage, the relative power of low-frequency oscillations begin to decrease, and medium frequency oscillations (10-50 Hz) start to dominate over the inspiratory discharge. The data obtained suggests, that perinatal maturation of respiratory centre is characterised by stabilisation of the respiratory rhythm generation and developmental alteration of inspiratory activity's spectral and temporary parameters.

RESUMO

The role of neuronal structures of the rostral ventromedullary area in regulation of central inspiratory activity, was studied. The data obtained suggests that the structures of subretrofacial area are important for the respiratory rhythm generation due to regulation of excitability of the inspiratory neurons.

RESUMO

The article describes a simple floating hydraulic micromanipulator of original construction which works in positive-positive pressure and provides maximum stability of the microelectrode tip concerning the neuron in the moving brain. This work is achieved by fixing of the micromanipulator on the hinged suspension bracket and by setting of it on the surface of the object with the help of bearing site. Breathing and vascular brain moving don't influence the neuron activity lead.

RESUMO

Microiontophoretic application of H+ and H+ + HCO-3 to optically monitored multipolar neurons in the caudal and intermediate bulbar chemosensitive areas increased their firing rate and induced discharges in previously "silent" neurons. A reverse effect occurred in some cases. An interrelationship was revealed between changes of the neurons redox-state and the parameters of their spike activity.

RESUMO

In anesthetized cats, in conditions of vagal and sinus deafferentation, the effect of bilateral cooling of portions of the medulla oblongata ventral surface on electric activity of the respiratory volley neurons, was studied. The main types of the responses were as follows: cessation or reduction of firing, transformation of the volley discharges into continuous those or continuous with respiratory modulation. These responses were followed by cessation or sharp depression of respiration. Data on localization of fields whose cooling entails maximal inhibitory responses of the respiratory neurons, are presented.
