RESUMO
In the plant drug collected at different localities in Slovakia and Bohemia in the same vegetation period of one year, the content of Mn and Zn were determined. The AAS method was employed after mineralization of the drug by the dry method (without mineralizing additives) and subsequent dissolution of the ash in a HCl solution. The content of both metals in the samples substantially differed (Mn: 24.7-2095.5 mg/kg, Zn: 46.5-362.0 mg/kg of the dried drug). The content of the ash, which was within the limits of the standard, excludes excessive pollution by dust fall-out. The birch tree most probably absorbs and cumulates Mn and Zn from the soil.

The present paper reports the results of determinations of both biogenic (Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn) and toxic (Pb, Hg) metals in the following plant drugs: Herba melissae, Herba urticae, Herba menthae piperitae, Herba equiseti, Herba agrimoniae, Flos tiliae, and Folium betulae. The drugs are used in human medicine in the form of tea both separately or in mixtures. The samples analyzed came from pharmacies, cultivators as well as collection in the nature. The radionuclide X-ray method was used to identify and determine the metals.

The effect of the homologous series of 1,1-dialkylpiperidinium bromides on the potassium leakage from Escherichia coli cells has been studied. The minimum concentration for each compound which is able to release maximum of cellular potassium has been determined and correlated with the inhibitory activities of the compounds. The relationship between the structure and the activity enables to consider the K+ leakage as the marker of inhibitory activity of the membrane active antimicrobials.
