[Intramedullary schwannomas. Report of two cases]. / Neurinomas intramedulares. Presentación de dos casos de un tumor infrecuente.

Intramedullary schwannomas are benign tumors that arise from clusters of Schwann cells embedded in the medullary parenchyma. They are very rare and account for 0.3 to 1.5 % of all spinal schwannomas. It is not known for certain why this happens, and several theories have been put forward. They do not exhibit any characteristic clinical picture, being pain the most frequent symptom. Imaging is also not specific and the correct diagnosis is attained most of the times after pathological examination. The goal of treatment must be complete removal, which is curative. We are presenting two patients in whom an intramedullary tumor was removed. The true nature of the lesions was suspected during the operation, but only after pathological examination was confirmed. A review of the literature has been undertaken, with special attention to the theories about the origin of these uncommon tumors.

[Laryngeal tuberculosis masquerading as carcinoma. Report of one case and literature review]. / Tuberculosis laríngea simulando carcinoma. Presentación de un caso y revisión de la literatura.

Since the introduction of antituberculous medications, the incidence of laryngeal tuberculosis (LTB) has decreased. However, it is a fact the increasing number of cases of pulmonary or extrapulmonary TB mainly caused by the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. We report the clinical case of a 72 years old male with dysphonia secondary to LTB which masqueraded a carcinoma. It's certain diagnosis was the histopathologic exam of the biopsy obtained by microsurgery. There was a residual TB in lung after a complete study of Internal Medicine Department.

Sarcoidosis pulmonar después de la instilación endovesical de mitomicina C / Lung sarcoidosis following instillation of mitomycin C in the urinary bladder

La profilaxis intravesical con mitomicinaC (MMC) para la prevención de recurrencias del cáncer de vejiga , ha demostrado ser un tratamiento efectivo con pocos efectos secundarios. Sólo dos casos de toxicidad pulmonar después de la instilación endovesical de MMC han sido descritos en la literatura. Presentamos un paciente de 65 años que desarrolló una sarcoidosis pulmonar tras la administración intravesical de MMC. Esta asociación no había sido descrito hasta el momento actual.Asímismo se discuten las características clínicas y la patogenia de esta enfermedad pulmonar (AU)

[Gastric bezoar]. / Bezoar gástrico.

Bezoar consist of the accumulation of different substances in the digestive tract. We present the clinical case of a girl with gastric trichobezoar discovered in a postoperatory follow-up to an appendicectomy. Ultra-sound images and oesophagus-gastric transit are fundamental points in the diagnosis. Endoscopy was useful in confirming the diagnosis and in ruling out associated ulcus, frequent in these patients. Surgical treatment is the choice in big bezoar but laser, prokinetics and enzymatic dissolutions have also been used. Theses patients should undergo psychological control.

[Lung sarcoidosis following instillation of mitomycin C in the urinary bladder]. / Sarcoidosis pulmonar después de la instilación endovesical de mitomicina C.

Intravesical prophylaxis against recurrence of urinary bladder carcinomas using mitomycin C (MMC) has proved to be and effective treatment with few side effects. Previously only two cases of lung toxicity after instillation of MMC into the urinary bladder has been described. We report a 65-year-old man in whom lung sarcoidosis occurred after intravesical administration of MMC. This association has not been reported to date. The clinical picture and the pathogenesis of this lung disease are discussed.

[Transitional-cell bladder tumor in childhood]. / Tumor de células transicionales de vejiga en edad pediátrica.

Tumors of transitional cells of the bladder are unusual in children under fourteen. Characteristics of these tumors to be highlighted are their usual presentation through macroscopic hematuria, as well as the existing controversy about the anatomicopathologic diagnosis along with the generally good prognosis of these tumors, although they need an appropriate follow-up due to some described cases of relapses and even death.

[Familial pseudoxanthoma elasticum]. / Pseudoxantoma elástico familiar.

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum is a genodermatosis caused by a change in elastic fibers but with a non well defined biochemical correlate. Its prognosis depends upon the degree of visceral involvement. The appearance of cutaneous lesions allows an early diagnosis. We report here three sisters aged 23, 21, and 19 years with pseudoxanthoma elasticum who had typical cutaneous and retinal lesions. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed by a cutaneous biopsy. To note the high diagnostic yield and minimal morbidity of the cutaneous biopsy for diagnosing this disease.

[Epididymal malacoplakia in a heart transplant recipient: clinico-pathologic study of a case]. / Malacoplaquia epididimaria en un paciente con trasplante cardíaco: estudio clínico-patológico de un caso.

OBJECTIVES: An unusual case of malacoplakia is described and the literature reviewed. METHODS/RESULTS: We report on a patient on immunosuppression due to heart transplantation who developed malacoplakia of the epididymis. Patient history and treatment are discussed, with special reference to the differential diagnosis between this condition and tumors.

We report on a 44-year-old patient with Leydig cell tumor of the testis that had been incidentally detected following orchidectomy for a tumor. The clinical, hormonal and histological criteria currently used to distinguish the malignant from the benign form of this tumor and the different therapeutical alternatives are discussed.

[Pleomorphic bladder rhabdomyosarcoma in an adult male. Apropos of a case]. / Rabdomiosarcoma pleomórfico vesical en un varón adulto. A propósito de un caso.

We report on a 45-year-old male patient with a mesodermal tumor localized in the striated muscle of the bladder wall. The histopathologic analysis revealed a stage I pleomorphic tumor. The clinical and histologic features of this uncommon tumor type are described. Treatment by partial surgery and adjuvant chemo- and radiotherapy (CMT + XRT) have achieved good results. The patient is asymptomatic 44 months thereafter.

[Malacoplakia associated with adenocarcinoma of the rectum: clinico-pathologic and ultrastructural study]. / Malacoplaquia asociada con adenocarcinoma rectal: estudio clínico-patológico y ultraestructural.

A case of malacoplakia associated with rectal adenocarcinoma is reported. Optical and electron microscopic study disclosed a histiocytic infiltrate adjacent to the adenocarcinoma containing spherical and concentric inclusions designated as Michaelis-Gutmann bodies. The pathogenesis is discussed and the literature is reviewed.
