RESUMO

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a skeletal muscle on the cartilage of growth plate of metaepiphyseal explants of tubular bones of growing and mature Chinchilla rabbits (n = 18) under conditions of their isolation from cellular and humoral influences. In experimental animals, metaepiphyseal explants of metatarsal bones, containing growth plate, were sealed in polyethylene film and were placed, under local anesthesia, in the femoral muscles. One week later these grafts were removed and studied histologically. Despite the absence of the effects of biologically active substances and immunocompetent cells of the donor (foreign) organism, the exposure of the cartilage plate to the environment of the muscular tissue lead to some typical changes in its structure. The results obtained may indicate the susceptibility of the cartilage growth plates to the action of some distant factors, probably, of an electromagnetic nature. The detection of these factors is promising for the development of clinical methods of the stimulation of the damaged cartilage growth plates for the correction of bone deformities.

RESUMO

The authors analyse the results of surgical treatment in 105 elderly and old-aged patients who were admitted to the clinic for acute cholecystitis and concomitant diabetes mellitus of various severity. The results of clinical, biochemical, morphological, and cytochemical (salkaline phosphatase of neutrophilic leukocytes, HCT test, myeloperoxidase) studies revealed "the syndrome of mutual aggravation" of the pathological process. The authors conclude that an early (during the first 3 days after the onset of the disease and the severity of the "syndrome of mutual aggravation") operative intervention must be undertaken on this category of patients.

RESUMO

The condition of the cellular link of the immune system was studied in 30 patients with various forms of acute peritonitis. It was found that the reaction of the immune system in peritonitis is characterized by a phase property and is manifested by processes of redistribution and activation of the immunocompetent cells and normalization of reactivity. The ratio of these phases is determined by the severity of inflammation and intoxication. It is shown that inhibition of the immune system is most marked in diffuse peritonitis, which is due to the higher absorption capacity of the peritoneum in this stage of the pathological process. It was established that the response of the immune system to the operative trauma depends on the spread of peritonitis. The number of T-helpers, T-suppressors, and activated lymphocytes and the activity of the neutrophil alkaline phosphatase are most important in the prognosis of postoperative complications. These parameters may also be used in assessment of the efficacy of immunomodulation with levamisole.

RESUMO

A suppression of humoral and cell mechanisms of natural nonspecific resistance was found in patients with diffuse peritonitis. A considerable degranulation of basophilic leucocytes was indicated by the direct Shelley reaction, that evidences alterations in the functional state of these cells. Postoperatively, there is a break in restoration of the activity of properdine and its cofactors, and a considerable suppression of the phagocytic capacity of microphages is noted, that leads inevitably to a reduction of immune reactivity.
