RESUMO

Planktonic communities of the Reservoir-9 (Lake Karachay, storage reservoir of liquid medium-level radioactive waste of the Mayak Production Association) are exposed to the severe radioactive forcing (in 2010 the total beta-activity of the water was 1.8 x 10(7) Bq/L, total alpha-activity was 1.1 x 10(4) Bq/L), aswell as to the chemical contamination (level of nitrates in water 4.1 g/L). The calculated values of the absorbed dose rate were 130 Gy/day for phytoplankton and 4.0 Gy/day for zooplankton. Extremely low species diversity, the overwhelming dominance of one species (phytoplankton is close to a monoculture of ubiquitous cyanobacteria Geitlerinema amphibium, zooplankton--to a monoculture of rotifers Hexarthrafennica), wide fluctuations in numbers of algae, a low number of zooplankton were the most substantial characteristics of the plankton communities in Lake Karachay. So, plankton communities status is a sign of environmental retrogress in this ecosystem.

RESUMO

The concentration of radionuclides in the upper river water depends on radionuclides flow from the Techa Cascade of Reservoirs (TCR) with filtration waters and water of bypass canals. Further concentration dynamics over the river depends on floodplain and bottom sediments contamination level. Perennial concentration dynamics of 90Sr and 137Cs in the Techa River water is stably decreases. At present time concentration of 90Sr in the water depends on TCR inflow mainly and concentration of 137Cs depends on the outflow from contaminated swampy floodplain of the upper rive. From the dam-11 to the river entry radionuclides content in the silt, as well as in the water is stably decreases. Specific activity of 137Cs in the silts is 5 rates higher than in the water and 90Sr - 3 rates higher. In the silts 137Cs prevails in the difficult of access forms, 90Sr prevails in the exchangeable and moveable forms. The highest contamination density of floodplain soils is registered in the Asanov and Muslyumov swamps area. With time content of 90Sr and 137Cs planes along the soil septh, so overall deposits are decreases. The floodplain soils contains 66.5% of 90Sr in water soluble and exchangeable forms and 94.3% of 137Cs in difficult of access forms.

RESUMO

This paper presents the results of radioecological study of the Iset River and riverside settlements in 1961-2002. In 1961, specific activity of 90Sr in the Iset River water below the Techa River mouth was 44.4 Bq/l and decreased to 3.2 Bq/l in 2002. Annual Techa River run-offinto the Iset River was, on average, 2 x 10(12) Bq of 90Sr in 2000-2004. Density 90Sr-contamination of floodplain soils decreased downstream the Iset River from 146.1 to 37.1 kBq/m2 near the Iset River mouth. In 1977, 90Sr-specific activity of fish muscles was 18 Bq/kg and decreased to 2 Bq/kg in 2002. An average 90Sr-specific activity in milk in settlements located at distances of 12-26 km from the Techa River mouth was 10.2 Bq/l in 1961 and 1.2 Bq/l in 2001. The rate of 90Sr transfer in chain "floodplain soils --> milk" was 2 x 10(-5) (Bq/l)/(Bq/m2). Annual dietary 90Sr-intake by adult residents of the Iset riverside settlements did not exceed an annual limit of intake in 1964-2002.

RESUMO

The paper presents the summary and the analysis of the results from a long-term monitoring of 90Sr specific activity in water of the lentic lakes Uruskul, L. Ighish, Kuyanysh and Travyanoye situated in Chelyabinsk Oblast on the East-Urals Radioactive Trace which was formed due to the 1957 accident at the Mayak PA. The data of measurements conducted over a 50-year period were approximated based on a function representing a sum of two (or three) exponents. The results of the analysis allowed us to study the peculiarities of reduction in the specific activity of 90Sr in the lakes of interest, and to obtain prognostic assessment of the development of the radioecological situation in these water reservoirs for the time period up to 2017. Presented in the paper are also data on the current levels of 90Sr and 137Cs specific activity in water of the lakes Uruskul, L. and S. Ighish, Kuyanysh, Travyanoye and Shablish. The estimates of the current reserves of these radionuclides are provided. Was shown that these lakes can be returned to the production use.

RESUMO

The research findings summarized in the paper include data on the radioecological conditions in two lakes (Large Ighish and Small Ighish) located on the East Urals Radioactive Trace. The focus of the study was on the chemical composition of water and bottom sediments, as well as on the specific features of 90Sr and of 137Cs distribution and the forms in which they occur in silts. Coefficients of radionuclide accumulation in the bottom deposits of the lakes of interest were estimated. A conclusion was drawn about the dependences influencing radionuclide distribution by layers of the lake bottom sediments.

RESUMO

The paper summarizes the results from radioecological studies of a number of water basins located on the East-Urals Radioactive Trace (EURT), as exemplified by the lakes Large Ighish, Small Ighish and Shablish which are included in the medium-distance and remote zone of the EURT. The lake Misyash which is situated in the opposite direction from the release vector and has been only contaminated due to global fallouts has been used as a control water basin. The current species composition of the high aquatic plants and species-specific concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs in them was studied, also, the radionuclide accumulation and discrimination coefficients were estimated.

RESUMO

The paper presents data on the current radioecological situation at Lake Maly Igish located on the axial part of the East-Urals radioactive trace formed after the 1957 accident at the Mayak PA. The chemical composition of the water and bottom deposits, as well as the distribution of 90Sr, 137Cs, and of the microelements in the main components of the water reservoir were studied. The current species composition of higher aquatic plants and of the species-specific concentration of 90Sr and of 137Cs was identified.

RESUMO

Data on the current radioecological status of lake Bolshoi Igish in the Middle Ural are presented in the paper. The lake is situated on the central axis of the East-Urals radioactive trace which was formed as a result of the 1957 nuclear accident at the Mayak Production Association. The distribution of 90Sr and 137Cs in the major components of the water basin is shown. Seasonal dynamics of the specific activity of radionuclides in water and in bottom deposits has been investigated. The current community of the higher water plant species has been studied. The paper discusses the concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs in the macrophyts of lake Bolshoi Igish depending on their species.

RESUMO

Out of the whole number of impurities (more than 30) detected in aerosol discharge of TES using Cheliabinsk mine coal only for 16 of them MACs for the air of residentials areas or tentative safe exposure levels were established. The most important from the hygienic point of view are dust, aluminum, iron, manganese, barium, vanadium and lead.
