RESUMO

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a benign nonneoplastic mucocutaneous lesion. It occurs as a result of chronic irritation or due to hormonal changes. The most favorable site for this fairly common lesion is gingiva, but rarely, it can occur outside the oral cavity, later often difficult to diagnose, as a diverse group of the pathologic process can produce such lesions outside the oral cavity. The diagnosis is also challenging as the lesions appear as smooth or lobulated red nodules with easy bleeding, occasionally ulcerated mimicking malignancies. The purpose of this article is to report a rare case of extragingival PG of the lower lip simulating as a vascular lesion in young male of 30 years old diagnosed by ultrasound followed by histopathological examination.

RESUMO

Plexiform neurofibroma (PNF) is a rare form of neurofibromatosis type 1 which is rarely seen isolated. This generally spreads along the peripheral nerve and may affect some nervous rami. This is a poorly circumscribed and locally invasive tumor. About 21% of patients with NF-I are affected with PNFs. The nevus of Ota also called oculodermal melanocytosis is a macular discoloration of the face. It is most commonly found in the Japanese and very rare in the Indian subcontinent. It is unilateral oculodermal melanosis along the first two branches of the trigeminal nerve. We hereby present a very rare case of occurrence of isolated PNF (not associated with neurofibromatosis type 1) along with nevus of ota of the left side of the face in a 28-year-old female with thorough radiographic work up.

RESUMO

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is an oral condition characterized by painful oral ulcerations. While the clinical features of this disease are easily defined, the etiology remains unclear. Thus, existing treatments are still unsatisfactory in reducing the severity, healing, and recurrence rate; however, there is no permanent and definitive treatment. Effective treatment for aphthous stomatitis is not available, and those treatments available mainly focus on suppressing its symptoms. We are reporting a case of a 17-year-old boy who presented with a 3-year history of multiple recurrent major ulcers in the oral cavity. Levamisole with steroids has been used in many clinical trials to treat aphthous ulcers, showing an improvement in pain, discomfort, healing time, and reduction in the number of ulcers. The same method was used to treat our patient, who showed promising results, with no recurrence for one year. Levamisole is a safe, easily tolerable and promising drug for the treatment of RAS.

RESUMO

AIM: An apparatus named "laser pointer apparatus" is proposed for accurate iris positioning in a prosthetic eye. BACKGROUND: Loss of an eye leads to significant psychological stress due to functional disability and societal response to the facial disablement. Custom-made eye prosthesis is a good option to rehabilitate such defects. Inaccurately positioned iris in a prosthetic eye results in squint eye appearance leading to poor esthetics and poor psychological impact among such unfortunate patients. TECHNIQUE: A new apparatus called a laser pointer apparatus, which is an assembly of an occlusal plane analyzer, web camera, laser pointer, and software, has been introduced for iris positioning in a prosthetic eye. CONCLUSION: Iris positioning is one of the key steps in fabricating an eye prosthesis. Laser pointer apparatus is a reliable method for iris positioning in a prosthetic eye. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Positioning the iris to the ideal symmetrical position is a cardinal step in the fabrication of an ocular prosthesis. This article aims to introduce a "laser pointer apparatus" to orient iris in a prosthetic eye objectively to overcome the subjective errors.
