RESUMO

PAP smear is one of the best screening tools available for early detection of cervical cancer. Hence, we conducted a retrospective study at the Department of Pathology, Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital over a period of one year by collecting PAP smear data. A total of 978 smears were collected out of which 59% were premenopausal and 41% were post menopausal women. Data shows that the prevalence of pre malignant and malignant lesions were more among the women of post menopausal age group than the pre menopausal age group.

RESUMO

Gall bladder diseases are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Gall bladder diseases comprise a wide spectrum of disease entities including non specific inflammatory diseases, acute and chronic cholecystitis, follicular cholecystitis, granulomatous cholecystitis, metaplasic and dysplastic diseases of the gall bladder mucosa, gall bladder polyps and carcinomas. Here, we describe an unusual and a rare case of granulomatous vasculitis of the gall bladder incidentally diagnosed in a 38-year-old female, in a routine cholecystectomy specimen. Granulomatous vasculitis has been reported as a part of localised vasculitis of the gastrointestinal tract in the literature. The case is presented here for the rarity of the diagnosis of an isolated non-necrotising granulomatous vasculitis of the gall bladder.

RESUMO

Children with Down syndrome (DS) present with a spectrum of hematolymphoid malignancies ranging from transient myeloproliferative disorder (TMD) which regress spontaneously to frank acute leukemia of both myeloid and lymphoid lineage. Here we present a series of three cases with different manifestation in DS. Three cases of DS presented with TMD, acute myeloid leukemia (AML-M2) and acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL), respectively. This case series displays the spectrum of hematological manifestations in children with DS. Although TMD and AMKL are strongly associated with DS, other AML subtypes can also be seen in such patients.
