RESUMO

The authors investigated a prognostic value (with respect to the complications) of certain laboratory parameters used in the examination of the gastric juice in patients with duodenal ulcer (DU) as well as the prognostic value of certain anamnestic data. A total of 100 patients with DU who had been followed up for 5-6 years were under study. The results obtained demonstrated the most informative values for the DU-related complications turned to be the parameters of the performance of the defense mechanisms of the gastroduodenal area (the contents of mucous proteins, the coefficient of the gastric juice defense), the levels of gastric secretion and acidification (the quantity of the juice, the per hour discharge of hydrochloric acid) as well as the ratio between the coefficient of the defense and the coefficient of the pepsin aggression that reflected the ratio between the aggressive and defensive factors of the gastric juice. Defined discriminant functions permitted the prognostication of complications appearance correct within 80-90%.

RESUMO

A study of 100 patients was done with the purpose of determining the prognostic value of the protein composition and coefficient of defense (ratio of mucus protein composition and coefficient of defense (ratio of mucus protein concentration to proteolytic activity) of the gastric juice and possibility of their use for evaluation of the severity of duodenal ulcer. Results indicate that changes of the protein composition and coefficient of defense of the gastric juice have a prognostic significance for determination of the severity of duodenal ulcer and appearance of complications. Discriminant functions allow to predict the further course of duodenal ulcer with a 70-80% precision.

RESUMO

The efficacy of elimination of enteric viruses from water in the process of exploitation of a closed irrigating system is evaluated. Experimental and natural observations showed the half-life of the index virus in the water objects of the irrigating system to be 1.57 days. The potentials of using a temperature-dependent variant of poliomyelitis virus as the internal control in studies of the prevalence of enteric virules among human subjects and in the environment under conditions of intensive irrigated agriculture are considered.

RESUMO

A possibility of construction of a mathematical model for current prognosing of aseptic meningitis incidence both for 2-4 months in advance and for the whole year has been demonstrated. The initial information consisted of the data on prevalence of enteroviruses in water objects as from May. Comparison of the actual and estimated incidence indicates that with the proposed model, up to 90.4% of the incidence of aseptic meningitis may be explained.

RESUMO

The role of variability of environment as a factor of recombination evolution is studied. It was shown that selection in multilocus system under cyclic or random fluctuations of external conditions results in rapid increase in recombination frequency, even under free recombination between the rec-modificator and the selected system (SS). If so, pair-vise linkage disequilibrium coefficients have unchanged signs and are negative, and the advantage of rec+ alleles is provided by changes in signs of disequilibriums of higher order. The low frequency environmental fluctuations maintain recombination as it is, while high frequency ones induce the substitution of the low level by high. It was established that the recombination promoting mechanism of crossing-over maintenance, due to elimination of non-optimal allelic combinations of SS loci under temporal optimum variations, may be accomplished by smaller genetic load, than under elimination of deleterious mutations.

RESUMO

The guanidine-dependent variant of poliovirus type I was shown to survive in soil and on tomato plants for 60 and 25 days, and in the roots, stems, leaves for 15, 20, and 8 days, respectively. Extrapolation of the significance of these results indicates that the decline of concentration of the indicator virus in the soil and on the vegetables and its increase and decline in the root system, stems, leaves, and in tomatoes is of exponential nature.

RESUMO

New versions are suggested to analyse marker and quantitative characters combinations. Possible modes of application of the algorithms developed for recombination analysis are discussed, including: 1) the estimation of crossing-over frequency between markers with incomplete penetrance, 2) the quantitative character variability account to analyse genetic interference, 3) search for genetic factors affecting a set of quantitative characters, 4) the evaluation of differences between male and female meiosis at the crossingover level etc.

RESUMO

The recombination frequency (rf) is known to be dependent not only on genetic background, but on the environment as well. In our numerical experiments we examine the role of the dependence of recombination on environment in the evolution of the genetic system. Variable rf-strategies, ensuring mean fitnesses greater than the optimum constant rf(*)-level, exist in both cyclical and stochastic environments. The conclusion that environment dependent recombination is evolutionary advantageous can be shown to be valid when variation in the frequency of recombination modifiers rather than mean fitness (which implies the concept of group selection) is used as a criterion for strategy comparisons. In this case, an evolutionary advantageous type of variable rf-strategies is the one ensuring restricted genetic variability dispersion in an optimal environment and an increase in released variation with the deterioration of environmental conditions. Another important result is that, taking into account the dependence of recombination on environment, it is possible to account for the maintenance of a higher level of population recombination than that predicted by models with the constant rf-level. On the whole, the data obtained indicate that the direct influence of external factors upon the rf-value could have been a significant factor in the evolution of the genetic system.
