RESUMO

Background: Resistance to change is the tendency to resist or avoid making changes; in addition, change is perceived as aversive. Resistance to change is a professional competence that can be evaluated. Objective: To adapt from the original English into Spanish the Resistance to Change Scale (RTC) by Oreg (2003) in two countries, Spain and Argentina. Method: The participants were 482 employed workers from Spain (Study 1) and 171 managers from Argentina (Study 2). Results: The results are presented in two studies and an unifactorial structure is demonstrated after exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) are performed. The factor obtained has adequate reliability and evidence of validity is also confirmed if some external correlates and certain scales dealing with pro/anti-change behaviors, self-efficacy, the hardy personality and impulsivity are taken as references. Conclusions: This scale could be an ideal instrument for correctly identifying RTC and it can be used as a screening tool in combination with other instruments

RESUMO

The objective of the present study was to draw up a Spanish adaptation for university students of the School Burnout Inventory (SBI) 9-item scale. This entailed a double adaptation, on the one hand from English into Spanish and then from secondary school students to university students. The scale was applied to 578 university students (25.7% men;74.3% women) from different regions in Spain. The findings indicate that the University students-SBI has the same structure as the original version in English for secondary school students. This was confirmed by factor analysis that pointed to the existence of three factors: Exhaustion, Cynicism and Inadequacy. Furthermore, the three subscales showed acceptable reliability(between .77 and .70) In addition to this, indications of validity were found using eighteen external correlates and seven contrast scales. Finallythe SBI-U constitutes a potentially useful instrument for evaluating academic burnout in university students

This study falls within the framework of Mayfield and Mayfield's proposal (2008, 2010) on creative environment perceptions. The objective was to adapt the 9-item Creative Environment Perceptions Scale into Spanish and analyse its psychometric properties. The sample for the present study was made up of 975 Spanish employees (48.5% men and 51.5% women). After carrying out a confirmatory analysis the results displayed a three factor structure: Support to creativity, Job characteristics and Blocks to creativity. Furthermore, the three factors showed appropriate reliability and some signs of validity were also found when they were contrasted with certain external correlates and scales that refer to workaholism, burnout and creative potential. By way of summing up, the present scale may prove ideal for appropriately identifying support to creativity, job characteristics and blocks to creativity.

Work offers a positive side but also it can be a framework where some risks may appear that evolve in negative outcomes. This research focus on the possible relation between two aspects of the work context: irritation at work with its two dimensions, cognitive and emotional irritation, and workaholism. So far the two concepts have been studied in their relation to other variables, but there is a lack of studies on the relation between them. To carry out this investigation 285 subjects from different occupations answered the instruments used and we found results in the expected way. Irritation, both cognitive and emotional irritation, showed significant correlations with both factors of the DUWAS However, in the case of the WBAT the correlations were significant only for factor 1, working excessively. Regression analysis yielded interesting results in order to explain the relation between both concepts.

RESUMO

In the context of entrepreneurship, cognitive adaptability is a key competence. Thus, researchers in this field are making an effort to find instruments to measure this ability in a way that allows us to predict success in the context of enterprise creation or intention. We conducted a series of exploratory and confirmatory analyses of the cognitive adaptability scale (MAC), using a sample of Spanish (N = 494), in addition to the reliability and validity analyses. We found that a three-factor solution of the MAC best fit the data. The reliability coefficients of consistency were acceptable. The validity of the MAC was confirmed by its correlation with Need for Cognition (NFC). The NFC measures the degree to which individuals enjoy cognitive activity. The present study suggests that more studies are needed in different contexts that would allow the structure of cognitive adaptability to be validated, improved or modified.

This study aims to carry out an adaptation into Spanish of Spence and Robbins‟ WorkBAT inventory (1992) and to analyse its psychometric properties. With this objective in mind a version adapted into Spanish of two samples, the first consisting of 285 employees (56.5% women and 43.5% men) and the second of 342 employees (52.9% women and 47.1% men). The first sample, after it was subjected to an exploratory factor analysis, yielded two subscales: motivation/commitment and enjoyment at work. Confirmatory factor analysis (ESEM) was then applied to the second sample, replicating the previous results. Both subscales showed good reliability. The scores from the scales were then related to various external correlates and to other scales and displayed good convergent and criterion validity. The findings indicate that the present scale can be used to evaluate workaholism and furthermore that it is fundamentally a psychometrically sound instrument. The WorkBAT can be used in future research studies as a screening tool in combination with other instruments (AU)

RESUMO

Background: Karasek and Theorell’s Job Demands-Control Model argues that adverse health-related outcomes, both psychological and physiological, arise from a combination of high job demand and a low level of job control. The objective was to adapt Meijman and Kompier’s Bus Drivers’ Job Demands Scale (BDJD-24), which enables us to assess the job demands of bus drivers, to Spanish. Method: The final version of the Spanish adaptation was applied to a sample made up of 287 bus drivers living in Spain (80.1% men and 19.9% women), whose average age was 40.44 (SD= 11.78). Results: The results yielded a three-factor structure for the scale used: Time Pressure, Safety, and Passengers. These findings confirm that the Spanish version replicates the factor structure of the original English scale. The reliability of the three subscales was acceptable, ranging from .75 to .84. Furthermore, the subscales were also related to different external correlates and to other scales and showed good convergent and criterion validity. Conclusions: The present instrument can be used to evaluate job demands of bus drivers, as its psychometrics are substantially sound (AU)

In the present article we studied the psychometric properties of the EL-Bus-21 scale, which enables us to evaluate the occupational stressors that affect Spanish bus drivers. 287 bus drivers (80.1% men and 19.9% women) took part in the study from three different sectors: metropolitan, intercity and charter coach drivers. The findings, after carrying out an exploratory factor analysis of the scale, revealed a structure comprised of three factors, namely, road environment, workload and fatigue, and personal discomfort. What's more, these three factors showed appropriate reliability. Similarly, the three factors showed validity with regard to stress, psycho-physiological disorders, safety behaviours in the vehicle and autonomy on the job as well as a number of empirical correlates. By way of summing up, the present scale may be ideally suited to adequately identifying the occupational stressors of Spanish bus drivers. The ELBus-21 may be used as a screening inventory in combination with other instruments.

RESUMO

In this article, we study the psychometric properties of a short scale (TRANS-18) which was designed to detect safe behaviors (personal and vehicle-related) and psychophysiological disorders. 244 drivers participated in the study, including drivers of freight transport vehicles (regular, dangerous and special), cranes, and passenger transport (regular transport and chartered coaches), ambulances and taxis. After carrying out an exploratory factor analysis of the scale, the findings show a structure comprised of three factors related to psychophysiological disorders, and to both personal and vehicle-related safety behaviors. Furthermore, these three factors had adequate reliability and all three also showed validity with regard to burnout, fatigue and job tension. In short, this scale may be ideally suited for adequately identifying the safety behaviors and safety problems of transport drivers. Future research could use the TRANS-18 as a screening tool in combination with other instruments.
