[Induction of cell adhesion molecules, E-selectin, VCAM-1 and ICAM-1, in a co-culture of human endothelial and smooth muscle cells]. / Induktsiia molekul kletochnoi adgezii, E-selektina, VCAM-1 i ICAM-1 v sovmestnoi kul'ture éndotelial'nykh i gladkomyshechnykh kletok cheloveka.

Using immunofluorescence and flow cytometry, we studied the surface expression of cell adhesion molecules, E-selectin, VCAM-1 and ICAM-1, in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) co-cultured with human aortic intimal smooth muscle cells (SMC). It was found that inactivated HUVEC constitutively expressed only ICAM-1. After 3-4 h of co-culturing with SMC in the Transwell system we observed the appearance of E-selectin and VCAM-1, and the increase of ICAM-1 content on the cell surface. In all the cases, the maximum expression of these molecules (85-100% of positively stained cells) was detected within 18-24 h after co-culturing. Similar effect was exerted by SMC-conditioned culture medium, whose action well compared with that of a direct addition of interleukin-1 to EC at a concentration of 5-10 u/ml. The obtained data suggest that the cytokines secreted by SMC may participate in the regulation of endothelial cell adhesion molecule expression, and influence cell accumulation in sites of inflammation, immune disorders, etc.

[The implantation of a nitinol endoprosthesis in treating strictures and atresias of the uterine cervical canal]. / Implantatsiia nitinolovogo éndoproteza v lechenii striktur i atrezii tservikal'nogo kanala matki.

The paper is concerned with the description of the first experience in a new method of roentgen endoprosthetics of the cervical canal of the uterus using a nitinol spiral prosthesis. The spiral has a shape memory effect. Prostheses were implanted to 13 patients with strictures or atresia of the cervical canal after bougienage for a period of 193 days. A new canal was formed with further epithelialization within this period. Recurrences after prosthesis removal were unnoticed.

[Development of endometrial cancer in one half of a double uterus]. / Razvitie raka éndometriia v odnoi polovine udvoennoi matki.

Two observations (patients of 52- and 48-years old) in which endometrial carcinoma developed in one half of a double uterus. Tumours were highly differentiated and completely replaced a left half of the uterus. The endometrium of the right half was with no change. 52-year--old patients had endometrioid carcinoma of the right ovary as well.
