[Tumors of the diaphragm]. / Ob opukholiakh diafragmy.

The authors have generalized data on 22 primary tumors of the diaphragm published in our national literature for the period up to 1983. A detailed analysis of a case observed by the authors is given. Benign fibroma of the left-side cupola of the diaphragm weighed 1100,0. Multiple metastases were revealed 1,5 year later first into the postoperative cicatrix, then into the lungs and body. The histological examination has established the diagnosis of fibrosarcoma. The patient survived for 3 years after the first operation. The authors recommend a thorough roentgenological examination to be made for a correct diagnosis of the diaphragm tumor. In all the cases the benign tumor should be dissected with the portion of the diaphragm within the necessary limits.

[Early and late results of mitral-aortic commissurotomy]. / Neposredstvennye i otdalennye rezul'taty posle mitral'no-aortal'noi komissurotomii.

The immediate and remote results of 69 operations for mitral-aortal stenosis are presented. The operations were fulfilled by the closed method through the left ventricle with the help of a dilator. Favorable postoperative course was noted in 56 patients. Ten patients (14,4%) with the IV-V stages of the disease died within near terms. Twelve patients (23% of all those examined) died within 2-20 years. Good results were noted in 27%, satisfactory results - in 46% and bad results in 14% of the observations. In time the results were found to get worse.

[Surgery of pancreatic adenomas]. / Khirurgicheskoe lechenie adenomy podzheludochnoi zhelezy.

Twenty four patients were operated upon for pancreatic adenoma (9 males and 15 females), in one of them malignant adenoma being noted. As evidenced by the authors' findings resection of the gland with adenoma is the method of choice. In single cases enucleation is felt to be permissible if adenoma is localized superficially in the head and body of the gland. The immediate issues of the operation are as follows: 22 patients were discharged in a satisfactory condition, 2 patients died. Complications were noted in 6 patients. Late results in 18 patients for the period from 8 to 22 years are good.

As a result of prophylactic examination of 2577 working females, aged from 17 to 65 years, pathological changes in the mammary gland were detected in 79. Fibrous mastopathy and fibroadenoma were the most frequent pathology. Mastopathy was frequently noted in females aged from 35 to 50 years, while fibroadenoma - in females under 25. Mammary gland pathology in 25.3% of cases was associated with gynecological lesions.

[Remote results of surgical treatment of chronic suppurative lung diseases]. / Otdalennye rezul'taty khirurgicheskogo lecheniia khronicheskikh nagnoitel'nykh zabolevanii legkikh

The work was undertaken to study late results of surgical treatment of suppurative lung diseases during 1950-1974. Questionaries were sent to 420 operated patients. Answers were received from 328 (78%) patients, 86% of them were examined clinically, 14%--were estimated according to questionaries and their physician findings. 50 per cent of patients were followed up for 10-24 years. A positive effect was gained in 94.8%. 82 per cent of the operated patients have practically recovered well. The causes of poor issues are described, and trends for their improvement are delineated.

[Differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis]. / O fifferentsialnoi diagnostike ostrogo appenditsita

Among 5.100 patients operated upon with a preoperative diagnosis of "acute appendicitis" the diagnosis proved to be erroneous in 85. Thirty seven of them need no operative intervention, in 48 patients an urgent operation was obsolutely necessary but for other acute diseases of the abdominal organs. Frequently, the cause of errors was non-atypical clinical course of the disease. A great number of cases of wrong diagnosis were due to inadequately collected anamnesis, incomplete clinical investigation of a patient.
