RESUMO

Recently, metal halides have received extensive attention because of the superior photophysical characteristics. Regardless of the superiority, the limited stability against heat and moisture and the toxicity problem of heavy lead metal are obstacles to the realization of wide range applications. In this case, it is necessary to develop eco-friendly alternatives, which could simultaneously maintain the excellent optoelectronic properties of lead materials. In this paper, the synthesis of lead-free one-dimensional Cs2AgBr3 and Cu(I)-alloyed Cs2AgBr3 single crystals (SCs) has been successfully realized. Experimental results demonstrated that the addition of applicable copper ions could greatly improve their luminescence intensity. A bright blue-green photoluminescence peaking at 510 nm was observed after incorporating Cu+ ions into Cs2AgBr3 SCs under UV irradiation. Theoretical calculation further proved that the incorporation of Cu+ could effectively modulate the materials' electronic band structure; the electronic states limited to the CuBr4 tetrahedron presented a strong localized property, which was beneficial to increase the photoluminescence efficiency. In addition, the SCs displayed favorable structure stability proofing moisture and oxygen under ambient conditions, proving that this material has good prospects for the development of optoelectronic fields.

RESUMO

Due to the superiority of low cost, easy manufacture, and tunable light emission owing to the diversity of compositions and dimensionalities, the metal halides have appeared as a promising class of semiconductors. Nevertheless, the toxicity problem along with inherent instability of Pb-based metal halides greatly limits their large-scale applications. Based on this situation, it is necessary to develop eco-friendly materials, which could simultaneously maintain the excellent optoelectronic properties of lead materials. In this Letter, the one-dimensional Cu + -alloyed Cs2AgI3 has been successfully synthesized. An intense blue emission located at 469 nm with a large Stokes shift was observed. Density functional theory calculation indicated that the Cu+ ions could effectively modulate the density of state population, which was the key factor drastically boosting the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). This kind of highly efficient metal halide may overcome the bottlenecks of toxicity and poor efficiency issues of blue emission and will have a promising prospect in the optoelectronic fields.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is regarded as a sophisticated surrogate biomarker for insulin resistance, offering a refined means for evaluating cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, prospective cohort studies have not simultaneously conducted baseline and multi-timepoint trajectory assessments of the TyG index in relation to CVDs and their subtypes in elderly participants. METHODS: After excluding data deficiencies and conditions that could influence the research outcomes, this study ultimately incorporated a cohort of 20,185 participants, with data chronicles extending from 2016 to 2022. The TyG index was calculated as Ln [fasting triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Latent Class Trajectory Model (LCTM) was used to assess the change trends of the TyG index over multiple time points. Utilizing the Cox proportional-hazards models, we assessed the relationship between the baseline quartiles of the TyG index and various trajectories with CVDs and subtypes. RESULTS: During the mean follow-up time of 4.25 years, 11,099 patients experienced new CVDs in the elderly population. After stratifying by baseline TyG quartiles, the higher TyG level was associated with an increased risk of CVDs; the aHR and 95% CI for the highest quartile group were 1.28 (1.19-1.39). Five trajectory patterns were identified by the LCTM model. The low gradual increase group as the reference, the medium stable group, and the high gradual increase group exhibited an elevated risk of CVDs onset, aHR and 95%CIs were 1.17 (1.10-1.25) and 1.25 (1.15-1.35). Similar results were observed between the trajectories of the TyG index with subtypes of CVDs. CONCLUSION: Participants with high levels of baseline TyG index and medium stable or high gradual increase trajectories were associated with an elevated risk of developing CVDs in elderly populations.

RESUMO

2D semi-metallic hafnium ditelluride material is used in several applications such as solar steam generation, gas sensing, and catalysis owing to its strong near-infrared absorbance, high sensitivity, and distinctive electronic structure. The zero-bandgap characteristics, along with the thermal and dynamic stability of 2D-HfTe2, make it a desirable choice for developing long-wavelength-range photonics devices. Herein, the HfTe2 -nanosheets are prepared using the liquid-phase exfoliation method, and their superior nonlinear optical properties are demonstrated by the obtained modulation depth of 11.9% (800 nm) and 6.35% (1560 nm), respectively. In addition, the observed transition from saturable to reverse saturable absorption indicates adaptability of the prepared material in nonlinear optics. By utilizing a side polished fiber-based HfTe2 -saturable absorber (SA) inside an Er-doped fiber laser cavity, a mode-locked laser with 724 fs pulse width and 56.63 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is realized for the first time. The generated laser with this SA has the second lowest mode-locking pump threshold (18.35 mW), among the other 2D material based-SAs, thus paving the way for future laser development with improved efficiency and reduced thermal impact. Finally, employing this HfTe2 -SA, a highly stable single-frequency fiber laser (SNR ≈ 74.56 dB; linewidth ≈ 1.268 kHz) is generated for the first time, indicating its promising ultranarrow photonic application.

RESUMO

Individuals are exposed to multiple phenols, parabens, and phthalates simultaneously since they are important endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) and share common exposure pathways. It is necessary to assess the effects of the co-exposure of these EDCs on thyroid hormones (THs). In this study, data included 704 adolescents and 2911 adults from the 2007-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Serum THs measured total triiodothyronine (T3), total thyroxine (T4), free forms of T3 (FT3) and T4 (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb). And 16 EDCs (3 phenols, 2 parabens, and 11 phthalates) were measured from urine. The relationship between single EDCs and single THs was analyzed using generalized linear regression. And results showed that several EDCs were positively associated with serum T3 and FT3 levels in boys but negatively associated with serum T4 and FT4 levels in girls. And in adults, five EDCs were negatively associated with T3, T4, or FT4. The effects of co-exposure to 16 EDCs on THs were calculated using Bayesian kernel machine regression and quantile-based g-computational modeling, confirmed that co-exposure was related to the increase of T3 in adolescents and the decrease of T4 in both adolescents and adults. Besides, nonlinear and linear relationships were identified between co-exposure and the risk of positive TPOAb and TgAb in girls and adult females, respectively. In conclusion, phenols, parabens, and phthalates as a mixture might interfere the concentrations of THs and thyroid autoantibodies, and the interfering effect varies significantly by sex as well as by age. Further prospective research is warranted to investigate the causal effects and underlying mechanisms of co-exposure on thyroid dysfunction.

RESUMO

The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials are fascinating for fundamental physics and optoelectronic device development. However, relatively few investigations have been conducted to establish the combined NLO activities of a 2D material. Herein, a study of numerous NLO properties of 2D gallium sulfide (GaS), including second-harmonic generation (SHG), two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF), and NLO absorption are presented. The layer-dependent SHG response of 2D GaS identifies the noncentrosymmetric nature of the odd layers, and the second-order susceptibility (χ2) value of 47.98 pm/V (three-layers of GaS) indicates the superior efficiency of the SHG signal. In addition, structural deformation induces the symmetry breaking and facilitates the SHG in the bulk samples, whereas a possible efficient symmetry breaking in the liquid-phase exfoliated samples results in an enhancement of the SHG signal, providing prospective fields of investigation for researchers. The generation of TPEF from 800 to 860 nm depicts the two-photon absorption characteristics of 2D GaS material. Moreover, the saturable absorption characteristics of 2D GaS are realized from the largest nonlinear absorption coefficient (ß) of -9.3 × 103, -91.0 × 103, and -6.05 × 103 cm/GW and giant modulation depths (Ts) of 24.4%, 35.3%, and 29.1% at three different wavelengths of 800, 1066, and 1560 nm, respectively. Hence, such NLO activities indicate that 2D GaS material can facilitate in the technical advancements of future nonlinear optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

With the advancement of civilization, water purification, as well as management and disposal of ever-increasing municipal solid waste (MSW), and e-waste, have become global concerns. To address these issues in a sustainable way, a 3D solar evaporator has been proposed in this paper by repurposing recycled paper from MSW in the form of egg trays and waste dry toner (e-waste) using a facile fabrication method. The unique 3D porous structure, fibrous surface, superior water absorbing capability as well as low thermal conductivity of wastepaper-derived egg trays make them an excellent candidate for an efficient solar evaporator, while the waste toner powder coating significantly enhances the optical absorbance capacity. Under 1 sun illumination, the proposed solar evaporator demonstrates an excellent evaporation rate and efficiency of 1.3 kg/m2 h and 78.5%, respectively. Moreover, the competitive advantage of the 3D structure in collecting solar irradiance at various light incident angles in comparison to a 2D structure, excellent cycle stability, low processing temperature, and the use of low-cost waste materials enable its use for large-scale water purification systems.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) gallium sulfide (GaS) offers a plethora of exceptional electrical and optical properties, allowing it to be used in a wide range of applications, including photodetectors, hydrogen generation, and nonlinear optical devices. In this paper, ultrathin 2D GaS nanosheets are synthesized using the liquid-phase exfoliation method, and the structure, morphology, and chemical composition of the as-prepared nanosheets are extensively investigated. After depositing 2D GaS nanosheets on side polished fibers, successful saturable absorbers (SAs) are fabricated for the first time. The realized modulation depths are 10 and 5.3% at 1 and 1.5 µm, respectively, indicating the wideband saturable absorption performance of the prepared SAs. By integrating GaS-SAs into three different wavelength-based fiber laser cavities, stable mode-locked pulses are achieved, having pulse durations of 46.22 ps (1 µm), 614 fs (1.5 µm), and 1.02 ps (2 µm), respectively. Additionally, different orders of harmonic mode-locked pulses with the highest repetition rate of 0.55 GHz (45th order) and Q-switched pulses with the shortest pulse duration of 2.2 µs are obtained in the telecommunication waveband. These findings suggest that 2D GaS has a lot of potential for broadband ultrafast photonics in nonlinear photonics devices.

RESUMO

We fabricated tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5) channel waveguides and used them to experimentally demonstrate higher-order mode supercontinuum (SC) generation. The Ta2O5 waveguide has a high nonlinear refractive index which was in an order magnitude of 10-14 cm2/W and was designed to be anomalously dispersive at the pumping wavelength. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a higher-order mode femtosecond pump based broadband SC has been measured from a nonlinear waveguide using the phase-matching method. This enabled us to demonstrate a SC spectrum spanning from 842 to 1462 nm (at - 30 dB), which corresponds to 0.83 octaves, when using the TM10 waveguide mode. When using the TE10 mode, the SC bandwidth is slightly reduced for the same excitation peak power. In addition, we theoretically estimated and discussed the possibility of using the broadband higher-order modes emitted from the Ta2O5 waveguide for trapping nanoparticles. Hence, we believe that demonstrated Ta2O5 waveguide are a promising broadband light source for optical applications such as frequency metrology, Raman spectroscopy, molecular spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography.

RESUMO

In-plane anisotropic two-dimensional (2D) materials have gained considerable interest in the field of research, due to having the potential of being used in different device applications. Recently, among these 2D materials, group 10 transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) pentagonal Palladium diselenide (PdSe2) is utilized in various sections of researches like nanoelectronics, thermoelectric, spintronics, optoelectronics, and ultrafast photonics, owing to its high air stability and broad absorption spectrum properties. In this paper, it is demonstrated that by utilizing this novel 2D layered PdSe2 material as a saturable absorber (SA) in an EDF laser system, it is possible to obtain switchable laser pulse generation modes. At first, the Q-switching operation mode is attained at a threshold pump power of 56.8 mW at 1564 nm, where the modulation range of pulse duration and repetition rate is 18.5 µs-2.0 µs and 16.4 kHz-57.0 kHz, respectively. Afterward, the laser pulse generation mode is switched to the mode-locked state at a pump power of 63.1 mW (threshold value) by changing the polarization condition inside the laser cavity, and this phenomenon persists until the maximum pump power of 230.4 mW. For this mode-locking operation, the achieved pulse duration is 766 fs, corresponding to the central wavelength and 3 dB bandwidth of 1566 nm and 4.16 nm, respectively. Finally, it is illustrated that PdSe2 exhibits a modulation depth of 7.01%, which substantiates the high nonlinearity of the material. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first time of switchable modes for laser pulse generation are achieved by using this PdSe2 SA. Therefore, this work will encourage the research community to carry out further studies with this PdSe2 material in the future.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) materials have exceptional optoelectronic and structural properties, which allow them to be utilized in several significant applications in energy, catalyst, and high-performance optoelectronic devices. Among other properties, the nonlinear optical properties are gaining much attention in the research field. In this work, a unique pentagonal TMD material, palladium disulfide (PdS2), is employed as a saturable absorber (SA) in an ytterbium-doped fiber (YDF) laser cavity and mode-locked laser pulse is generated. At first, liquid phase exfoliation is performed to prepare PdS2 nanoflakes. Afterward, the PdS2-nanoflakes solution was incorporated in the side-polished fiber (SPF) to form SPF-based PdS2-SA. By utilizing this SA, a highly stable mode-locked laser pulse is realized at pump power of 160 mW, which has a center wavelength of 1033 nm and a 3-dB spectral bandwidth of 3.7 nm. Moreover, the pulse duration, maximum power output and corresponding single-pulse energy were determined as 375 ps, 15.7 mW and 0.64 nJ, respectively. During the experiment, the mode-locked pulse remained stable till the pump power reached a value of 400 mW and, for the regulation of power, the slope efficiency is calculated at about 4.99%. These results indicate that PdS2 material is a promising nonlinear optical material for ultrafast optical applications in the near-infrared (NIR) region.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) topological insulators (TIs) have attracted a lot of attention owing to their striking optical nonlinearity. However, the ultra-low saturable intensity (SI) of TIs resulting from the bulk conduction band limits their applications, such as in mode-locking solid-state lasers. In this work, through fabricating a graphene/Bi2Te3 heterojunction which combines monolayer graphene and a Bi2Te3 nanoplate, the optical nonlinearities are analyzed. Moreover, the thickness-dependent characteristics are also investigated by varying the thickness of the Bi2Te3 when synthesizing the heterojunctions. Furthermore, with the aid of the estimated junction electron escape time, a model of the photo-excited carrier-transfer mechanism is proposed and used to describe the phenomena of depression of ultra-low saturable absorption (SA) from the Bi2Te3 bulk band. The increased modulation depth of the graphene/Bi2Te3 heterojunction can accordingly be realized in more detail. In addition, a Q-switched solid-state laser operating at 1064 nm with heterojunction saturable absorbers is built up and characterized for validating the proposed model. The laser performance with varied Bi2Te3 thickness, such as pulse duration and repetition rate, agrees quite well with our proposed model. Our work demonstrates the functionality of optical nonlinear engineering by tuning the thickness of the graphene/Bi2Te3 heterojunction and demonstrates its potential for applications.

RESUMO

This Letter compared the absorption characteristics of a homemade graphene-Bi2Te3 (G-B) van der Waals heterostructure to a Bi2Te3 topological insulator (TI) with a similar preparation method and number of layers. The results indicate that the G-B heterostructure can tremendously enhance the modulation depth and saturable intensity. In addition, a passively Q-switched laser at 1.06 µm with a G-B heterostructure as a saturable absorber (SA) was demonstrated for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. Compared to Bi2Te3 TI, the G-B heterostructure Q-switched laser had better laser performance, indicating that a G-B heterostructure is a promising SA candidate for a 1 µm laser.

RESUMO

In this work, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, an anomalous dispersion CMOS-compatible Ta2O5 waveguide was realized, and broadband on-chip supercontinuum generation (SCG) was accordingly demonstrated. When pumped at a center wavelength of 1056 nm with pulses of 100 fs duration and peak power of 396 W, a supercontinuum ranging from 585 nm to 1697 nm was generated, comprising a bandwidth of more than 1.5 octaves and leading to an efficient SCG source. The excellent performance for Ta2O5 to generate SCG benefits mainly from its high nonlinear refractive index, which enhances the efficiency of the nonlinear conversion process.

RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) materials, especially transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and tungsten disulfide (WS2), have attracted great interests due to their exceptional optical properties as saturable absorbers in laser systems. In this work, at first, we presented a diode-pumped passively Q-switched laser with MoS2 saturable absorber (MoS2-SA). At an incident pump power of 6.54 W, a maximum output power of 1.15 W with a minimum pulse duration of 70.6 ns was obtained, which is the shortest pulse duration of diode pumped passively Q-switched laser with MoS2-SA to the best of our knowledge. Then, by using a hybrid Q-switched laser with a MoS2-SA and an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) as pumping fundamental laser, a sub-nanosecond KTiOPO4 (KTP) based intracavity optical parametric oscillation (IOPO) was realized. With an incident pump power of 10.2 W and AOM repetition rate of 10 kHz, the maximum output power of 183 mW with minimum pulse duration of 850 ps was obtained. The experimental results indicate that the IOPO pumped by the hybrid Q-switched laser with AOM and MoS2-SA can generate signal wave with shorter pulse duration than those IOPOs pumped by hybrid Q-switched laser with AOM and Cr4+:YAG or single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absober (SWCNT-SA) or monolayer graphene SA.

RESUMO

We prepared WS2 nanosheets by using the thermal decomposition method and demonstrated for the first time its nonlinear saturable absorption property at around 2 µm. With the as-prepared WS2 nanosheets as saturable absorber (SA), a passively Q-switched Tm:LuAG laser was realized successfully, and 660 ns laser pulses with an average output power of 1.08 W and pulse peak power of 26 W at a repetition rate of 63 kHz were obtained for an incident pump power of 7 W. Our experimental results definitely demonstrate that WS2 could be a kind of promising SA for solid-state 2 µm lasers.
