RESUMO

The endeavor to enhance utility of organic molecular cages involves the evolution of them into higher-level chiral superstructures with self-similar, presenting a meaningful yet challenging. In this work, 2D tri-bladed propeller-shaped triphenylbenzene serves as building blocks to synthesize a racemic 3D tri-bladed propeller-shaped helical molecular cage. This cage, in turn, acts as a building block for a pair of higher-level 3D tri-bladed chiral helical molecular cages, featuring multilayer sandwich structures and displaying elegant characteristics with self-similarity in discrete superstructures at different levels. The evolutionary procession of higher-level cages reveals intramolecular self-shielding effects and exclusive chiral narcissistic self-sorting behaviors. Enantiomers higher-level cages can be interconverted by introducing an excess of corresponding chiral cyclohexanediamine. In the solid state, higher-level cages self-assemble into supramolecular architectures of L-helical or D-helical nanofibers, achieving the scale transformation of chiral characteristics from chiral atoms to microscopic and then to mesoscopic levels.

RESUMO

Nanohydrogelation of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) will undoubtedly open up new applications for them in water, such as aqueous catalysis and biomedicine. It is currently a great challenge to achieve water dispersion of COFs through either bottom-up construction strategies or top-down exfoliating technologies. Herein, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM)-postmodified COF nanohydrogels (COF-NHGs) are successfully designed and synthesized via in situ atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) on a scaffold of COFs. During the polymer growth process, the bulk COFs are exfoliated into nanosheets with a lateral size of ∼500 nm and a thickness of ∼6.5 nm. Moreover, their size can be precisely controlled by the degree of polymerization of PNIPAMs. In aqueous solution, the obtained COF-NHGs are assembled into nanohydrogels retaining intra-plane crystallinity and exhibit a temperature-sensitive sol-gel phase transition. With excellent solubility in organic solvents, the COF-NHGs' intrinsic physical properties in the solution state can be characterized through their solution nuclear magnetic resonance and ultraviolet absorption spectra. These results put forward new opportunities for regulating the solution processability of COFs and building an intelligent, stimuli-response platform of COF-polymer composite nanohydrogels for device applications.

RESUMO

A three-dimensional rigid "six-connected" porous triptycene network based on Tröger's base (TB-PTN) was synthesized by using triptycenes as connectors and Tröger's base as linkers. With characteristics of a high surface area of 1528 m2 g-1, nitrogen-enriched groups, and superior thermal stability, TB-PTN displays a high CO2 uptake of 22.3 wt % (273 K, 1 bar) and excellent iodine vapor adsorption (240 wt %).

A pair of chiral, emissive and porous tubular multi-functional organic molecular cages were synthesized easily by imine chemistry of 4,4',4'',4'''-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)-tetrabenzaldehyde (ETTBA) with (R,R)- or (S,S)-diaminocyclohexane (CHDA). It was found that the chirality of CHDA was transferred and amplified to tetraphenylethylene (TPE) in the process of formation of cages, which further endowed the cages with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) characteristics. As a result of the synergy of the chirality and porous structure in the solid state, both cages exhibited a good chiral adsorption enantioselectivity to a series of aromatic racemates.

BACKGROUND@#Currently, more and more infertility couples are opting for combined acupuncture to improve success rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, evidence from acupuncture for improving IVF pregnancy outcomes remains a matter of debate.@*OBJECTIVE@#To quantitatively summarized the evidence of the efficacy of acupuncture among women undergoing IVF by means of systematic review and meta-analysis.@*METHODS@#Four English (PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Register of Controlled Clinical Trials) and Four Chinese databases (Wanfang Databases, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database, and SinoMed) were searched from database inception until July 2, 2023. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated the acupuncture's effects for women undergoing IVF were included. The subgroup analysis was conducted with respect to the age of participants, different acupuncture types, type of control, acupuncture timing, geographical origin of the study, whether or not repeated IVF failure, and acupuncture sessions. Sensitivity analyses were predefifined to explore the robustness of results. The primary outcomes were clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and live birth rate (LBR), and the secondary outcomes were ongoing pregnancy rate and miscarriage rate. Random effects model with I2 statistics were used to quantify heterogeneity. Publication bias was estimated by funnel plots and Egger's tests.@*RESULTS@#A total of 58 eligible RCTs representing 10,968 women undergoing IVF for pregnant success were identifified. Pooled CPR and LBR showed a signifificant difference between acupuncture and control groups [69 comparisons, relative risk (RR) 1.19, 95% confifidence intervals (CI) 1.12 to 1.25, I2=0], extremely low evidence; 23 comparisons, RR 1.11, 95%CI 1.02 to 1.21, I2=14.6, low evidence, respectively). Only transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation showed a positive effect on both CPR (16 comparisons, RR 1.17, 95%CI 1.06 to 1.29; I2=0, moderate evidence) and LBR (9 comparisons, RR 1.20, 95%CI 1.04 to 1.37; I2=8.5, extremely low evidence). Heterogeneity across studies was found and no studies were graded as high-quality evidence.@*CONCLUSION@#Results showed that the convincing evidence levels on the associations between acupuncture and IVF pregnant outcomes were relatively low, and the varied methodological design and heterogeneity might inflfluence the fifindings. It remains a great challenge to effectively control the pore size in porous organic polymers (POPs) because of the disordered linking modes. Herein, we used organic molecular cages (OMCs), possessing the properties of fixed intrinsic cavities, high numbers of reactive sites and dissolvable processability, as building blocks to construct a molecular cage-based POP (TPP-pOMC) with high valency through covalent cross coupling reaction. In the formed TPP-pOMC, the originating blocking pore channels of TPP-OMC were "turned on" and formed fixed pore channels (5.3 Å) corresponding to the connective intrinsic cavities of cages, and intermolecular pore channels (1.34 and 2.72 nm) between cages. Therefore, TPP-pOMC showed significant enhancement in Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and CO2 adsorption capacity.

To investigate the responses of key enzymes involved in steroidal saponin biosynthesis of Dioscorea zingiberensis to low phosphorus stress, we designed three treatments of severe phosphorus stress, moderate phosphorus stress, and normal phosphorus level. The D. zingiberensis plants were collected at the early, middle, and late stages of treatment. The content of total steroidal saponins in different tissues of D. zingiberensis was determined by spectrophotometry for the identification of the critical stage in response to low phosphorus stress. BGI 500 sequencing platform was employed to obtain the transcript information of D. zingiberensis samples at the critical stage of low phosphorus stress, and then a transcriptome library was constructed. The correlation between the expression of genes involved in steroidal saponin biosynthesis and the content of total steroidal saponins was analyzed for the screening of the key enzyme genes in response to low phosphorus stress. Further, the expression patterns of these genes were analyzed by real-time fluorescence PCR(qRT-PCR). The content of total steroidal saponins in D. zingiberensis had obvious tissue specificity under low phosphorus stress, and the early stage of stress was particularly important for D. zingiberensis to respond to low phosphorus stress. A total of 101 593 unigenes were obtained by transcriptome sequencing, of which 77.35% were annotated in NT, NR, SwissProt, KOG, GO, and KEGG. A total of 256 transcripts of known key enzyme genes in the biosynthetic pathway of steroidal saponins were identified. The expression levels of 69 transcripts encoding 18 catalytic enzymes were significantly correlated with the content of total steroidal saponins. The qRT-PCR results showed that several key enzyme genes presented different expression patterns in four tissues under low phosphorus stress. The results indicated that the content of total steroidal saponins and the expression of key enzyme genes regulating steroidal saponin biosynthesis in D. zingensis changed under low phosphorus stress. This study provides the biological information for elucidating the molecular mechanism of steroidal saponin biosynthesis in D. zingensis exposed to low phosphorus stress.

A photoexcited sulfenylation of C(sp3)-H bonds in amides is developed for the synthesis of sulfenyl amides using thiosulfonates as a sulfur source. In the presence of easily available and inexpensive Na2-eosin Y, TBHP and K2CO3, various sulfenyl amides can be obtained under the irradiation of blue light at room temperature.

Enantiomers of 2, 6-diaminotriptycene (R, R-1 and S, S-1) are split by chiral-phase HPLC and their absolute configurations are identified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technology. Using the enantiomers as monomers, a couple of chiral porous polyimides (R-FTPI and S-FTPI) are prepared by polycondensation reactions and display good heat stability, high BET surface area and good solubility in organic solvents. Moreover, both of R-FTPI and S-FTPI can be cast into robust, free-standing films suitable for enantioselective separation with symmetrical chiral selectivity.

Objective To analyze the research status,hotspots,and frontiers of atherosclerosis genomics from 2010 to 2019.Methods CiteSpace software was used to conduct data statistics and visual analysis on countries,institutions,authors,journals,co-cited papers,and keywords of the related papers published in the Web of Science from 2010 to 2019.Results A total of 1021 papers in English were included,and the annual number of publications generally showed an upward trend.The knowledge base in the research of atherosclerosis mostly focused on the genetic risk sites and biomarkers for coronary artery diseases such as coronary heart disease,myocardial infarction,and dyslipidemia.The related journals mainly involved the fields of molecular biology,biology,genetics,immunology,medicine,pharmacy,and clinical medicine.The latest research in atherosclerosis concentrated on genome-wide association study,DNA methylation,microRNA,messenger RNA and so on.The research frontiers involved long noncoding RNA,DNA methylation,and immune metabolism.Conclusion The studies in atherosclerotic genomics have gradually increased.

RESUMO

Three new diterpenoids (a cephalotane, an abietane and a 9(10→20)-abeo-abietane) and one new flavonoid, together with 11 known compounds, were isolated from the twigs of Cephalotaxus fortunei var. alpina. The new compounds were identified by comprehensive spectroscopic (including 1D and 2D-NMR and HR-ESI-MS) analysis. Anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and cytotoxic activities of three new compounds were evaluated. 3ß,20-epoxyabieta-8,11,13-triene-3α,12-diol showed weak cytotoxicity against tumor cell lines NCI-H1975, HepG2, MCF-7, while fortalpinoid R and 3-acetonyl-3,5,7,4'-tetrahydroxy-2-methoxyflavanone were not active at 80 µM. None of these compounds showed anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activities.

ObjectiveVentrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG) locates in ascending reticular activating system, which plays a key role in the sleep-wake circle. However, the role of vlPAG in general anesthesia has not been identified. To investigate the effect of the dopamine receptor in vlPAG neurons on propofol anesthesia, we used real-time in vivo fiber photometry, microinjection and EEG.MethodsTo observe the alteration of neuronal activity in the vlPAG throughout propofol anesthesia, 10 Sprague-Dawley rats were used for calcium fiber photometry recording. 50 vlPAG bilateral microinjection models were established and assigned into five groups randomly, including D1R agonist group, D1R antagonist group, D2R agonist group, D2R antagonist group, and control group (n=10). Under propofol anesthesia, 1 μL of D1R agonist, D1R antagonist, D2R agonist, D2R antagonist, and isotonic saline were microinjected into the vlPAG of animals in the corresponding groups, respectively. The induction time, recovery time and the changes in electroencephalogram (EEG) before and after microinjection were recorded and analyzed.ResultsThe neuronal activity in the vlPAG was significantly inhibited during the induction period and markedly recovered during the recovery period from propofol anesthesia (P<0.05). Subsequently, the microinjection of D1R agonist into the vlPAG notably prolonged the induction time and reduced the emergence time of propofol anesthesia with a decrease of δ-band ratio. While the microinjection of D1R antagonist accelerated the induction time and prolonged the emergence time of propofol anesthesia with an increase of δ-band ratio and a decrease in β-band ratio in cortical EEG (P<0.05). The induction and recovery time of D2R agonist /antagonist group did not differ with those of control group. As well, EEG before and after microinjection in D2R agonist /antagonist group did not different.ConclusionThese results indicate that vlPAG modulates the process of propofol anesthesia via D1R.

It remains a great challenge to design and synthesize a porous material for CO2 capture and sensing simultaneously. Herein, strategy of "cage to frameworks" is demonstrated to synthesize fluorescent porous organic polymer (pTOC) by using tetraphenylethylene-based oxacalixarene cage (TOC) as the monomer. The networked cages (pTOC) have improved porous properties, including Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and CO2 capture compared with its monomer TOC, because the polymerization overcomes the window-to-arene packing modes of cages and turns on their pores. Moreover, pTOC displays prominent reversible fluorescence enhancement in the presence of CO2 in different dispersion systems and fluorescence recovery for CO2 release in the presence of NH3·H2O, and is thus very effective to detect and quantify the fractions of CO2 in a gaseous mixtures.

Berberine hydrochloride (BH), an important alkaloid, can be captured from water and released in organic solution circularly by a charged porous polymer (TPB-HCP), which is hypercross-linked using the cost-effective Friedel-Crafts reaction using sodium tetraphenylborate as the monomer. With high BET surface area, hierarchical porous structure and charged characteristics, TPB-HCP displays excellent adsorption capacity for BH owing to the synergistic effects of size matching and electrostatic interaction.

Objective To explore the correlation of the timing of enteral nutrition (EN) and the prognosis of the patients with septic shock.Methods From December 2016 to August 2017,fifty-five patients with septic shock who received treatment in the ICU of Tongji University School of Medicine were selected in the study and randomly divided into two groups,28 cases in the early enteral nutrition (EEN) group and 27 cases in the delayed enteral nutrition (DEN) group.All the patients was treated with EN before and after 48 h at admission respectively.After 1 week of treatment,the nutrition indicators,clinical efficacy,complications and prognosis of the two groups were compared.Results The levels of ALB,PA and HB in EEN group after treatment were significantly increased,compared with those before treatment,and were superior to those in DEN group ((38.4±4.5) g/L vs.(34.6±3.8) g/L,(207.8±41.4) mg/Lvs.(180.6±47.6) mg/L,(119.2 ±18.3) g/Lvs.(110.7±14.2) g/L;t =3.39,2.26,1.99,P<0.05).Compared with DEN group,the length of ICU stay,CRRT time,mechanical ventilation time of EEN group were significantly shortened ((6.4± 1.7) d vs.(9.8±2.4)d,(4.7±1.2) d vs.(7.9±2.5)d,(3.6±1.2)d vs.(6.4±1.8) d;t=6.16,6.32,7.09,P<0.05).After treatment,the SOFA score,APACHE Ⅱ score and qSOFA score were significantly improved in both groups,and the improvement in EEN group was significantly better than that in DEN group((3.8±0.9)points vs.(5.1 ± 1.2) points,(12.2 ± 2.4) points vs.(15.1 ± 3.7) points,(87.4 ± 14.7) points vs.(77.4 ± 13.2) points),(t=4.53,3.46,4.31,P<0.05).Conclusion The implementation of EEN in patients with septic shock can improve the nutritional status of the patients,alleviate the severity of the disease,reduce the incidence of complications and improve the prognosis.

Moringa oleifera seed has remarkable curative effects on reducing blood pressure, blood sugar and enhancing human immunity. In this study, one novel phenolic glycoside (1) together with four known compounds 2-5 were isolated from the macroporous resin adsorption extract of M. oleifera seeds, and the compound 3 was reported for the first time from this plant. The structure of the new crystalline compound was determined on the basis of spectroscopic analyses including mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR experiments. The hypoglycaemic activity of isolated compounds was investigated with HepG2 cell and STZ-induced mice. It was found that compound 1, 4 and 5 could promote the glucose consumption of insulin resistance cells and reduce blood glucose levels of STZ-induced mice. This study concludes that compound 1, 4 and 5 may be developed as new and safe hypoglycaemic drugs.

BACKGROUND: For many countries where malaria is endemic, the burden of malaria is high in border regions. In ethnic minority areas along the Myanmar-China border, residents have poor access to medical care for diagnosis and treatment, and there have been many malaria outbreaks in such areas. Since 2007, with the support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), a malaria control project was introduced to reduce the malaria burden in several ethnic minority regions. METHODS: A malaria control network was established during the period from 2007 to 2014. Multiple malaria interventions, including diagnosis, treatment, distribution of LLINs and health education, were conducted to improve the accessibility and quality of malaria control services for local residents. Annual cross-sectional surveys were conducted to evaluate intervention coverage and indicators of malaria transmission. RESULTS: In ethnic minority regions where a malaria control network was established, both the annual malaria incidence (19.1 per thousand per year, in 2009; 8.7, in 2014) and malaria prevalence (13.6 % in 2008; 0.43 % in 2014) decreased dramatically during the past 5-6 years. A total of 851 393 febrile patients were detected, 202 598 malaria cases (including confirmed cases and suspected cases) were treated, and 759 574 LLINs were delivered to populations at risk. Of households in 2012, 73.9 % had at least one ITNs/LLINs (vs. 28.3 %, in 2008), and 50.7 % of children less than 5 years and 50.3 % of pregnant women slept under LLINs the night prior to their visit. Additionally, malaria knowledge was improved in 68.4 % of residents. CONCLUSION: There has been great success in improving malaria control in these regions from 2007 to 2014. Malaria burdens have decreased, especially in KOK and WA. The continued maintenance of sustainable malaria control networks in these regions may be a long-term process, due to regional conflicts and the lack of funds, technology, and health workers. Furthermore, information and scientific support from the international community should be offered to these ethnic minority regions to uphold recent achievements.

BACKGROUND: In the Yunnan province of China, 18 counties in six prefectures border Myanmar. Due to its particular combination of geographic features, climate conditions, and cultural landscape, the area provides a suitable environment for the spread of insect-borne diseases such as malaria. In five identified Myanmar Special Regions along the China-Myanmar border, economic development is lagging, people live in extreme poverty, and the healthcare system is fragile. Coupled with political and other reasons, this precludes malaria control work to be effectively carried out in Myanmar, resulting in a heavy burden of the disease. Frequent population movements and favorable conditions for malaria transmission on the border fuel difficulties in controlling and eliminating the spread of the disease in the area. CASE PRESENTATION: To reduce the prevalence of malaria in the China-Myanmar border area and improve healthcare services for local residents in this particular environment, Health Poverty Action (HPA) has provided malaria aid in the area since the beginning of 2006, as a sub-recipient of the China Global Fund Malaria Programs. In this case study, we examined HPA's activities as part of its malaria control programs in the area, analyzed and summarized the effectiveness and impact of the cross-border healthcare model as implemented by non-governmental organizations, and put forward suggestions for cross-border health aid models and for the prevention of malaria transmission in the Greater Mekong Subregion. CONCLUSIONS: HPA had carried out a great quantity of successful malaria control activities in border areas between China and Myanmar, strengthened the partnership and established the collaboration, coordination and cooperation channels among stakeholders. HPA has laid good groundwork and developed its valuable model that could be highlighted and referenced.

PURPOSE: This systematic analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pemetrexed based salvage chemotherapy for treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. METHODS: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of pemetrexed based regimens on response and safety for patients with colorectal cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rates (RRs) were calculated. RESULTS: For pemetrexed based regimens, 4 clinical studies including 201 patients with advanced colorectal cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. The analysis suggested that, in all patients, pooled RR was 20.4% (41/201). Major adverse effects were neutropenia, anorexia, fatigue, and anemia. No treatment related death occurred with pemetrexed based treatment. CONCLUSION: This systematic analysis suggests that pemetrexed based regimens are associated with mild activity with good tolerability in treating patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.
