RESUMO

Pelvic lipomatosis consists of an abdominal capsulated mass containing lipidic tissue, generally with remarkable dimensions, responsible for urinary tract disturbances. Here we describe the first case to our knowledge of accidental intraoperative diagnosis associated to an ovarian cyst in absence of objective symptoms and signs.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Describe the results of surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for treatment of primary malignant neoplasms of female urethra. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Since 1982, 31 patients with urethral cancer were evaluated at our institution (follow-up ranging from 0 to 127 months). Ten patients were treated with external beam irradiation and 1 patient received preoperative therapy after surgery. Two patients refused treatment and 1 received chemotherapy. Three patients presented with disseminated metastatic disease at the first examination received exclusively palliative treatment. RESULTS: Five patients have survived from 3 to 10 years following treatment without recurrence. Of 31 patients 18 developed distant metastases during the first 24 months of follow-up irrespective of treatment employed. CONCLUSION: With exception of primary melanoma, prognosis was not related to histologic features. Patients who underwent surgery and radiotherapy had a better survival rate than did those who received radiotherapy alone. Total urethrectomy with appendico-vesicostomy can be an alternative surgical method for entire urethral ivnasive lesions without cystourethrectomy and preserving urinary continence.

RESUMO

Primary rectal lymphomas are rare tumors representing less than 2% of the neoplasms of the colon. Common symptoms are the same that occur in carcinoma of the rectum. Patients treated surgically have a better prognosis. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy should be considered in some cases. A case of primary rectal lymphoma is presented and the literature reviewed.

RESUMO

PIP: During May 1978-November 1979, 2131 voluntary interruptions of pregnancy were carried out at the Obstetrical and Gynecological Clinic of the University of Naples. Most interventions done during the 1st months were done by dilatation and currettage; after that 99.65% were done by vacuum aspiration which seems to be safer within the 1st 12 weeks of pregnancy. General anesthesia was used in only 2.35% of cases and paracervical block in 97.65%. Hospitalization of patients was for the day only; 4.74% required a longer stay in the hospital. 50.87% of patients were in the age group 25-35; 35.48% were parity 1-2, 34.10% parity 3-4, and 13.94% parity 5 and over. Almost 80% of patients were married, and 64.80% of interventions were done between the 8th and 10th week. Only 8 patients were illiterate, and 79.02% had secondary school education; 73.81% were housewives, and 50.77% came from outside the city of Naples. Most partners of patients were employed as factory workers. There were 30 cases of hemorrhage and 9 cases of uterine perforation. All complications occurred in patients beyond the 10th week of pregnancy.^ieng

RESUMO

Tubular histology was correlated to FSH levels assayed under basal conditions (8 cases) or in response to Gn-RH (24 cases) in 32 infertile males, in whom a testicular biopsy was indicated as part of the work-up. A good correlation was found between number of spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes and levels of FSH, under basal conditions or, even more, in response to Gn-RH; correlation was less close with respect to spermatids 1 and 2 and nonexistent with respect to Serotoli cells. In spite of those findings, when taking into account only mean counts of spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes, some overlapping of values in individual cases still existed. On the other hand, when correcting the above perameters for tubular diameter and number of tubules per LPF, a much closer correlation between parameters of tubular function and dynamics of FSH regulation was obtained; the overlapping of values was found only in 1 out of 32 cases.
