An allele with internal Hae III restriction site has been found in the D5S43 locus. A three-fragment pattern was detected in a child and its "putative father". Hinf I and Mbo I cleavage revealed only two fragments. It is the first published three-fragment D5S43/Hae III phenotype.

Among 1,239 unrelated adults from Upper Silesia (Poland), a significant association between ESD and C3 phenotypes was found. This is in accordance with the results obtained in an Indian population.

The delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase (ALADH) polymorphism was studied in the Upper Silesian population, Poland. The frequency of ALADH*1 was 0.9417, and ALADH*2 was 0.0583. No rare or anomalous phenotype was found. The distribution of phenotypes in 148 mother-child pairs was determined. Comparison with other world populations was made.

A silent allele PGM1(0) in three generations of a Polish family was indicated by an abnormal segregation pattern and by reduced enzyme activity on electrophoresis and densitometric assay. There was also found in this family the silent allele Fy0 in the Duffy system (the incompatibility in the mother-child pair).

A silent allele of red cell acid phosphatase was found in three generations of a Polish family. The phosphatase levels of 4 family members were about half the normal value.
