RESUMO

Discrepancies in rainfall chemistry in Bellsund were found to be influenced by the orographic barrier and related to the variability in the inflow of air masses as well as to the distance of sampling sites from the sea and thus the extent of sea spray impact. This study covers measurements of rainfall (P) and air temperature (T), physicochemical parameters (pH, specific electrolytic conductivity (SEC), major ions (Cl-, NO3-, SO42-) and elements (Na, Ca, Mg,K), as well as trace elements (i.a. As, Cd, Cr, Fe, Co, Pb, Ni, Zn) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in 22 rainfall samples collected in August on the Calypsostranda marine terrace and in the forefield of a land-terminating glacier (NW Wedel Jarlsberg Land). The comparison of chemical parameters in the samples revealed major discrepancies, including statistically significant higher rainwater pH and SEC, and the levels of Ag, As, Bi, Ca, Co, Fe, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb, and V, deposited near the seashore (Calypsostranda) than in the glacier forefield. Cluster analysis (CA) showed that elements deposited in lower concentrations at the glacier forefield site came from predominately anthropogenic sources. Conversely, CA results of metals and metalloids deposited on the Calypsostranda marine terrace indicate both natural and anthropogenic sources. A correlation matrix and principal component analysis (PCA) permitted identifying two primary factors affecting rainfall chemistry at each of the study sites. In Calypsostranda, these were the inflow of relatively unpolluted cold air (F1 = 35.1%) and sea spray (F2 = 27.6%), while in the glacier forefield the factors were an orographic barrier (F1 = 37.3%) and the inflow of polluted warm air (F2 = 25.2%).

The Bug River, in the section between Dorohusk and Wlodawa (part of the eastern UE border), is one of the last remaining natural rivers in Europe. Thus, its abundance of floodplain lakes (FPL) in that part constitutes an area which preserves biodiversity. This study presents an analysis of potamophases duration and the Potamophases Concentration Index (PCI) in 20 floodplain lakes in the multi-year period 1952-2014. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA, Tukey test), as well as a correlogram approach were used to perform statistical analyses. Among the lakes, few differed significantly from the others; more often, differences between years, in terms of both potamophase duration and PCI, were found. This proved that time is more important than space in shaping river valley hydrology. Cumulative values of the study indices, presented in a correlogram, showed that both potamophase duration and the period of potamophase concentration determine the water quality of a floodplain lake, expressed as the hydro-chemical type. In floodplain lakes with short potamophases concentrated at the beginning of a hydrologic year, water quality typical for interzonal lakes was observed; in floodplain lakes with the longest potamophases with their concentration at the end of a hydrologic year, ionic concentrations typical of extrazonal lakes occurred, whereas in lakes with a potamophase duration close to the average value and a spring concentration of floods, intermediate water quality was observed, typical of mixozonal lakes. A sound knowledge of floodplain lake functioning is crucial to maintaining the biodiversity of river valleys due to the lake's natural water and nutrient storage capacity.

Polyethyleneterephthalate (PET), and to a lesser extent Teflon have become the major synthetic grafting material. Unlike nylon, Ivalon, and Vinyon-N which lose their tensile strength after implantation, PET and Teflon remain essentially unchanged even after long periods. TRICOMED S.A. produces the family of the knitted vascular implants Dallon made from PET fibres including: Dallon, Dallon H, Tricogel. Both Dallon and Dallon H are manufactured in a form of double (external and internal) velour surface using multifilament yarn and having optimal graft design (a variety of sizes and lengths). The velour surface gives the surface a velvety, plush texture, which improves tissue in--growth. Moreover, Dallon H is a unique vascular prostheses showing the increase in the blood susceptibility that is useful for 4 times less blood demand during preclotting as compared with standard prosthesis. Tricogel graft is made of thin-wall prostheses sealed with the porcine gelatin that provides intraoperative tightness (without preclotting) and the optimal healing process. Hydrophilic behavior of the graft is observed as an instant moistening of the surface with patient's blood and as sweating. The blood stream does not dissolve nor washes away the gelatin but causes the gelatin film to swell, which makes a better tightness. The work will describe the properties of manmade vascular grafts as well as their applications in the vascular surgery.

TRICOMED S.A. (Poland) has modified its own knitted polyester vascular prosthesis by change in its physical and chemical characteristics and using hydrophilia. The work has aimed at evaluation of intraoperative tightness and evaluation of change in the number of selected parameters of coagulation and fibrinolysis following implantation of a hydrophilic vascular graft into the thoracic aorta defect in piglets. In view of the experimental tests performed it has been noticed that use of DALLON H prosthesis is easy and the handling of the graft is the same as that of other knitted vascular grafts. DALLON H prosthesis does not need preclotting and it reaches immediate tightness after the blood flow has been restored. In view of the results of the blood studies after implantation coagulation activation in endogenous and exogenous system (aPTT and PT), and increase in activity of factor XII and VII. Concentration of fibrinogen was at a higher level. Thrombin III activation remained at the same level after a primary increase, but protein C activation was decreased. Plasminogen activation was higher which means that the fibrinolytic system was activated. Changes in the level of evaluated indicators were observed until day 14 after implantation of the prosthesis. On day 21st the values of the selected parameters were equal with the values prior to implantation.
