RESUMO

PURPOSE: To report a new spectral domain optical coherence tomography finding of retinal herniation in a patient with macular detachment accompanying peripapillary detachment in pathologic myopia. METHODS: Retrospective case report. A 47-year-old male patient with pathologic myopia and peripapillary detachment, pitlike defect, and associated macular detachment. RESULTS: Spectral domain optical coherence tomography scan showed intrachoroidal cavitation, discontinuity of retinal layers over the pitlike defect with herniation of retinal tissue through which communication between the choroidal cavity and subretinal space was seen. CONCLUSION: We report for the first time retinal herniation through pitlike dehiscence in pathologic myopia with intrachoroidal cavitation, and describe its association with macular detachment.

RESUMO

To report a rare case of unilateral foveal neovascularisation in an asymptomatic patient with 15-year history of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and bilateral proliferative diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. Fundus fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography scan confirmed the presence of foveal neovascularisation. There was complete regression of the foveal neovascularisation after pan retinal laser photocoagulation. We review the literature on foveal neovascularisation in diabetic retinopathy and propose a possible pathogenic mechanism for development of foveal neovascularisation in diabetic retinopathy and the reason for the response to pan retinal laser photocoagulation.

RESUMO

Combined retinal pigment epithelial and retinal hamartomas are focal malformations composed of overgrowth of mature glial, vascular and pigmented cells. They are usually solitary and unilateral. In addition there are only a few optical coherence tomographic reports of the same. We report a rare case of twin hamartomas in the same eye and their unique optical coherence tomographic findings that are different from previous reports.
