RESUMO
In 64 patients with complicated peptic ulcer particular features were studied of morphofunctional status of erythrocytes depending on the type of the complication set in (acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage, penetration, perforation, stenosis). It has been found out that changes in peroxidated resistance of erythrocytes, in their power of being capable of deformation and aggregate formation, and in viscosity of the erythrocyte suspension were at their greatest in those patients presenting with peptic ulcer complicated by acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage.

Analysis of the data obtained suggests that uncontrolled intensification of processes of free-radical lipid peroxidation is a bad prognostic sign in uncomplicated peptic ulcer as is rise in the aggregation activity of erythrocytes, viscosity of blood, decline in the ability of erythrocytes to deform, particularly so in peptic ulcer complicated by acute hemorrhage. The changed erythrocytes are involved into the evolution of the vicious circle causing disturbances in the gastric and duodenal mucosa microcirculation, which fact suggest the need for correction of impaired plastic properties of erythrocytes.
