The initial stage of amino acid metabolism was intensified in germinating wheat seeds with exogenous glutamine and proline. Exogenous glutamine and proline accumulated over 2 h at 4 degrees C in swelling seeds were spent at different rates over the following 2 h at 20 degrees C, thus compensating for insufficiency of these amino acids during the initial stage of development. Creation of an additional store of glutamine and proline during the initial stage of amino acid metabolism had positive effects on the seed germination and vital activity of the plants.

[Study of prostaglandins and thromboxanes B2 using mass-spectrometry of secondary ions]. / Issledovanie prostaglandinov i tromboksanov B2 metodom mass-spektrometrii vtorichnykh ionov.

Prostaglandins E, F, I2 and thromboxane B2 have been studied by secondary ion mass spectrometry. It is shown that the method is suitable for direct identification of these compounds either as free acids or as their sodium salts. The spectra of the former reveal their structural features, while with the latter information on the molecular weight can be obtained. The limit of detection (about 1 microgram) allows the analysis of prostaglandin solutions of 1 microgram/microliter concentrations used in pharmacological tests.
