[Health status of mining technical school students under present ecological conditions of Donets Basin]. / Sostoianie zdorov'ia uchashchikhsia gornykh tekhnikumov v sovremennykh ékologicheskikh usloviiakh Donbassa.

The examinations indicated that the students of mining colleges from Donbass showed unfavourable changes in their health status, including those in their immunobiological resistance and functional status. There was a direct relationship between the levels of environmental pollution and the body's changes, i.e. those in the cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, and nervous systems. Recommendations for health promotion in the students are given in the paper.

[The screening assessment indices of body immunological reactivity in young people living in the Donetsk region]. / Nekotorye pokazateli skriningovoi otsenki sostoianiia immunologicheskoi reaktivnosti organizma iunoshei, prozhivaiushchikh v Donetskom regione.

Pupils from the mining-trade secondary schools aged, 17-18 from different towns of Donbass were examined for the state of immunologic reactivity, as evidenced by the peripheral blood content of leucocytes, level of Igs A, M, G, as well as cytotoxicity of blood plasma. The results obtained suggest weakening of immunological reactivity in the examined populations, with the degree of the immunological reactivity impairement being higher in Donetsk as compared with more clean ecological zone Selidovo, which fact suggests a negative influence the complex of harmful environmental factors has on human organism. The above age group warrants further study; there is also the need to devise approaches toward immunocorrecting therapy for such contingents.

[The clinical manifestations of heat-induced lesions in miners in the deep coal mines of the Donets Basin]. / Klinicheskie proiavleniia teplovogo porazheniia u gornorabochikh glubokikh ugol'nykh shakht Donbassa.

Heat-induced lesions in miners are characterized by syndrome of vegetovascular dysfunction presenting with a damage to the segmental and suprasegmental structures of the vegetative nervous system, worsening of the bodily heat status, decrement of physical performance. A distinguishing feature of vegetovascular dystonia in acute overheating is activation of sympathicus, while in chronic one that of parasympathicus. By patterns of function disorders and degree of their restoration acute overheating can be categorized into the following forms-mild, moderately severe and severe ones. In chronic overheating distinct syndromes are recognized depending upon the particular course of vegetovascular dysfunction, viz., permanent course vegetovascular dystonia, permanent paroxysmal one presenting with varying trend vegetative crises, apparent persistent bradycardia and syndrome of weakness of sinoatrial node. Acute overheating is more commonly seen in those miners with as yet little service duration while chronic overheating occurs more frequently in those persons with more than 8-year record of service in conditions of heating microclimate.

[The characteristics of the body's functional status and the state of the health of pupils in mining trade schools in an industrial zone]. / Osobennosti funktsional'nogo statusa organizma i sostoianiia zdorov'ia uchashchikhsia gornykh tekhnikumov promyshlennoi zony.

The article presents results of study into the level of physical development, condition of the cardiovascular-, respiratory-, central nervous systems, immunobiologic resistance of the organism, prevalence of morphofunctional deviations from the norm, and morbidity rates among the students of the mining-trade secondary school (aged 15-18). It has been found out that adverse ecological situation in urban centres of the Donetsk Province together with specific character of training for occupation in coal industry have a marked negative effect on the functional status as well as health status of the adolescents. On the basis of the studies made a complex of measures has been designed to maintain and promote the health of students of the mining-trade secondary schools.
