RESUMO

We have investigated the illumination effect on the magnetotransport properties of a two-dimensional electron system at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3interface. The illumination significantly reduces the zero-field sheet resistance, eliminates the Kondo effect at low-temperature, and switches the negative magnetoresistance into the positive one. A large increase in the density of high-mobility carriers after illumination leads to quantum oscillations in the magnetoresistance originating from the Landau quantization. The carrier density (∼2 × 1012 cm-2) and effective mass (∼1.7me) estimated from the oscillations suggest that the high-mobility electrons occupy thedxz/yzsubbands of Ti:t2gorbital extending deep within the conducting sheet of SrTiO3. Our results demonstrate that the illumination which induces additional carriers at the interface can pave the way to control the Kondo-like scattering and study the quantum transport in the complex oxide heterostructures.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This systematic review addressed flap designs in endodontic surgery which can have an impact on the Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four electronic databases were searched (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus) to identify all studies up to November 2019 that investigated the effect of flap designs on gingival recession and quality of life among healthy adults. RESULTS: The initial search identified 2701 references. Ten studies were included in this systematic review; two were randomised clinical trials and eight were non-randomised clinical trials. Studies showed that sulcular incision increases the risk of gingival recession and decreases OHRQoL. Two studies were included in the meta-analysis in relation to gingival recession. The pooled results demonstrated that submarginal incision showed a decreased weighted mean difference in gingival recession by 0.31 mm (95% CI: 0.12 - 0.51) (p = 0.002) compared to sulcular incision. CONCLUSION: Sulcular incision flap unfavourably affect the level of gingiva and OHRQoL. All nonrandomised studies had a statistically significant bias and the sample sizes in all studies were relatively small. More gingival recession and lower OHRQoL were associated with sulcular incision. Additional investigations are warranted to provide more evidence.

RESUMO

A transition from a d^{2} to a d law is observed in molecular dynamics (MD) simulations when the diameter (d) of an evaporating droplet reduces to the order of the vapor's mean free path; this cannot be explained by classical theory. This Letter shows that the d law can be predicted within the Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) paradigm if a temperature-jump boundary condition derived from kinetic theory is utilized. The results from this model agree with those from MD in terms of the total lifetime, droplet radius, and temperature, while the classical d^{2} law underpredicts the lifetime of the droplet by a factor of 2. Theories beyond NSF are also employed in order to investigate vapor rarefaction effects within the Knudsen layer adjacent to the interface.

RESUMO

Cystadenoma is a rare benign salivary gland tumor that chiefly originates in the minor salivary glands as a cystic growth with papillary projections into the cystic lumen without the lymphoid element. It is further classified into two histopathological variants that have been recognized by World Health Organization as the papillary and the mucinous forms of cystadenoma. Clinically, it is difficult to differentiate from other benign minor salivary tumors and mucous retention phenomenon. Diagnosis is chiefly based on characteristics histological features. It is believed that the salivary gland tumors are difficult to diagnose and interpret because there are varied patterns of presentation. The study of salivary gland disorders has increased in leaps and bounds. The authors report a case of mucinous cystadenoma of the minor salivary gland on the hard palate, which is even rarest of the rarely reported cystadenomas of the minor salivary glands.

RESUMO

Odontogenic keratocysts are very well documented in the literature. Multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are one of the most frequent features of nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS). It is linked with mutation in the PTCH gene (human homolog of the drosophila segment polarity gene, "patched",). Partial expression of the gene may result in occurrence of only multiple recurring OKC without any associated systemic findings. A rare case of multiple odontogenic keratocysts unassociated with any syndrome is reported, so as to add to the growing number of such cases in the literature. The possibility of this case being a partial expression of the Gorlin-Goltz syndrome is discussed.

RESUMO

Treatment and reconstruction of oral scar contracture, is always a challenging procedure to restore structure and functions of the oral cavity. We present a case of a patient with limited mouth opening who sustained extensive oral scar contracture with complete adhesion of tongue to floor of mouth following ingestion of caustic soda without his knowledge 4 years back. We performed a surgical release of the scar contractures from buccal mucosa on both sides, along with a release of the tongue from the floor of the mouth, followed by reconstruction of all sites using split skin grafts. Adequate mouth opening and tongue movement was achieved. There was a follow up period of 1 month with excellent mouth opening and tongue function.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lignocaine hydrochloride is the most widely used and easily available local anaesthetic agent. Adrenaline is frequently combined with lignocaine to enhance the duration of anaesthesia, decrease toxicity, to achieve vasoconstriction and to provide a bloodless field. AIM AND OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to do the comparative evaluation of local anaesthesia with adrenaline and without adrenaline on blood glucose concentration in patients under going tooth extraction. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The study was conducted on 120 patients comprising of 60 healthy and 60 diabetic patients. All these patients were in need of multiple extractions. The patients were in the age group of 18-50 years. On their first visit the patients were given plain lignocaine and tooth extraction was carried out. One week later the same patient was given lignocaine with 1:80,000 adrenaline to carry out tooth extraction. Serial blood glucose estimations were done at definite intervals (prior to administration of local anaesthetic, immediately after injecting the LA, 10 and 20 min following the injection of LA) on both the occasions. RESULTS: The mean blood glucose concentration increased from the base line level of 84.81 to 85.09 mg/dl in healthy patients and from 206.82 to 207.09 mg/dl in diabetic patients 10 min following the injection of 2% plain lignocaine. This increase in blood glucose concentration following the administration of plain lignocaine was statistically not significant (P > 0.05). There was statistically significant (P < 0.005) increase in the blood glucose concentration from 88.81 to 105.55 mg/dl in healthy, and 208.77 to 242.46 mg/dl in diabetic patients 20 min following the injection of lignocaine with adrenaline. INTERPRETATION AND CONCLUSION: While assessing the generalized effects of local anaesthetic solutions, metabolic as well as haemodynamic responses should be investigated. Adrenaline containing LA should be used with caution in Type 2 diabetics as adrenaline causes suppression of insulin release.

RESUMO

Central tumors of neurogenic origin are among the most rare primary jaw tumors in children. Intraosseous neurofibromas of the jaws occur more often as solitary lesions rather than as part of a generalized neurofibromatosis. We are presenting a case of solitary intraosseous neurofibroma of the maxilla in a five-month-old infant, which is probably the youngest such case published in literature so far.
