RESUMO
Anatomic basis and operative instructions for raising the pectoralis major myocutaneous island flap are described. Taking into account the autogenous material, the suitability of the flap for covering large defects after tumor resection is shown. Problems of clinical application of the technique are discussed.

We present the clinical, histological and genealogical pictures of 12 cases with sponge naevus of the oral mucosa. There is no need of any active treatment in this benign and congenital malformation.

The vascular supply of the forearm skin--especially of the ventral antebrachial region--was investigated by means of selective angiographies and intravascular dye injections in 43 upper extremities of corpses. Besides the definition of the interesting supply regions assertions were made about the kind and the character of the angioarchitecture as well as recommendations for the flap planning and other clinical references.

We report on a patient suffering from plasmoacanthoma which started from the right angle of the mouth and extended to the oral mucosa. The clinical tentative diagnosis of a malignant tumor was histologically supported by an immediate frozen section under surgery. Only histological examination of tumor material embedded in paraffin settled the diagnosis of plasmoacanthoma. On the base of mycological demonstration of Candida albicans on the tumor tissue, we discuss etiopathogenetic aspects of plasmoacanthoma as well as its nosologic position.

The authors report their experience with a personal technique for the surgical treatment of gingival recessions. Their experience is based on operations upon 35 teeth. To avoid recurrences, the authors perform, on principle, the necessary vestibuloplasty, covering the wound surface with a full-thickness skin graft taken from the cheek, three weeks after the first intervention. The good results obtained permit to recommend this method.

Of 371 subjects hospitalized for preprosthetic operations during the years 1960-1972, 182 were re-examined on whom 228 preprosthetic interventions had been performed. The results obtained with vestibuloplasty associated with free skin transplantation, which had been executed mainly in the upper jaw, were very encouraging. To achieve a direct comparison of the method indicated by Schuchardt with the so-called buccal-inlay technique, both procedures have been performed simultaneously in a number of patients. Of the other preprosthetic surgical techniques, the plastic operation on the floor of the mouth yielded good results, too. If the relatively strict indications for the submucous vestibuloplasty according to Obwegeser were observed, this technique also proved satisfactory, whereas the results of the vestibuloplasty with healing by second intention and those of our restorative plastic operation on the alveolar crest were not satisfying.
