RESUMO

Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PFK10, isolated from the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) of the Ankleshwar industrial area of Gujarat, India. The 6.04-Mb draft genome sequence of strain PFK10 provides information about the genes encoding enzymes that enable the strain to decolorize and degrade textile azo dye.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To measure the choroidal thickness and ocular perfusion pressure in eyes with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), wet-age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and age-matched normal subjects, and look for a possible association between the two. METHODS: This was a prospective study including 22 eyes with PCV, 33 eyes with wet-AMD, and 35 age-matched normal eyes. Choroidal thickness was measured using enhanced depth imaging (EDI) with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT). Mean ocular perfusion pressure (MOPP) was calculated using the mathematical formula 2/3[DBP+1/3{SBP × DBP}]-IOP (DBP-diastolic blood pressure, SBP-systolic blood pressure, IOP-intraocular pressure). Analyses were carried out using SPSS 14 software and comparisons of mean made using't' tests. RESULTS: Eyes with PCV showed increased (285.9 µm; subfoveal) choroidal thickness, whereas eyes with wet-AMD (119.4 µm; subfoveal) showed reduced choroidal thickness in comparison with normal eyes (186.77 µm; subfoveal). MOPP in the PCV group was 57.85 mm Hg (P value 0.00), in the wet-AMD group was 52.1 mm Hg (P-value 0.12), and in the normal group was 49.79 mm Hg. CONCLUSION: It is postulated that higher MOPP in eyes with PCV could have an etiologic implication in disease manifestation and progression. Larger studies with longer follow-up may help validate these findings.

RESUMO

Escherichia phage ADB-2 was isolated from a chicken fecal sample. It is a virulent phage and shows effective inhibition of Escherichia coli strains. Here we announce the completely sequenced genome of Escherichia phage ADB-2, and major findings from its annotation are described.

RESUMO

Alkalibacillus haloalkaliphilus C-5 is a haloalkaliphilic bacterium that was isolated from a soil sample from the salty Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan, India. The organism is capable of alkaline protease production under conditions of pH 10 and 10% (wt/vol) salt. We sequenced and have reported the whole genome of Alkalibacillus haloalkaliphilus C-5, of Indian origin, for the first time.

RESUMO

A critically ill man suffered a respiratory arrest due to pulmonary air embolism after the exchange of central venous catheters over a guidewire. A pulmonary perfusion lung scan performed 90 min later demonstrated extensive perfusion defects which were interpreted as "high probability" for PTE. Pulmonary angiography 4.5 h later was normal. A second perfusion lung scan performed 24 h after the respiratory arrest was normal. Pulmonary air embolism can produce segmental (and larger) perfusion defects which may be indistinguishable from those caused by PTE. The rapid (24 h) resolution of the perfusion defects may help differentiate the two disorders.
