RESUMO

AIM: The aim of the study was to compare the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) in the management of endo-perio lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted with 140 patients who are affected by endo-perio lesions, and the patients were divided into two groups. In group I, patients were treated with PRF, and in group II, patients were treated with T-PRF. Endodontic treatment was done in all cases, following a standardized aseptic method. Probing pocket and relative attachment level were recorded after 3 months and 6 months in both groups. RESULTS: After 3 months, the mean change of probing pocket depth (PPD) was 68% in group I and 33.41% in group II. The intergroup distinction was not significant (p > 0.05), whereas the intragroup evaluation was significant (p < 0.05). The mean change after 6 months was 42.59% in group I and 43.90% in group II. The difference was not significant (p > 0.05). After 3 months, the mean% change of relative attachment level (RAL) was 31.20% in group I and 31.60% in group II. The intergroup distinction was not significant (p > 0.05), whereas the intragroup evaluation established a considerable discrepancy (p < 0.05). The mean change after 6 months was 40.82% in group I and 42.12% in group II. CONCLUSION: Both PRF and T-PRF were effective in inducing a reduction in pocket depth and useful in gaining attachment level. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: With the use of PRF and T-PRF, the complex case of endo-perio lesions can be efficiently managed.

AIM: To assess the survival rate of short dental implants in medically compromised patients. MATERIALS AND METHOD: This follow-up study was conducted on 342 medically compromised patients of both genders (580 dental implants). The failure rate of dental implants was assessed. RESULTS: There were 142 diabetes mellitus patients with 254 dental implants, 108 patients with hypertension with 190 dental implants, 26 patients with mental disabilities with 40 dental implants, 20 oral cancer patients with 36 dental implants, and 46 osteomyelitis subjects with 60 dental implants. There were 60 (10.5%) short dental implant (SDI) failures of which a maximum of 25 (22.7%) were seen with 4 mm diameter. Maximum failure was seen with osteomyelitis patients 8 (13.3%) followed by diabetes mellitus 32 (12.5%). Out of 270 dental implants in 130 control patients, implant failure was seen in 11 (4.07%). There was a significant (p < 0.05) bone loss on follow-up at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. CONCLUSION: Medically compromised patients are more prone to dental implant failure as compared to healthy subjects. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Since medically compromised patients are prone for implant failure, careful selection of cases is necessary.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE: This study was done to assess peri-implant soft tissues and hard tissues in immediate and delayed titanium implants cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted on 84 patients who were randomly divided into two groups. Group I was immediate implant group (42 patients) and group II was delayed implant group (42 patients). Parameters such as peri-implant esthetic score, crestal bone defect, and densitometry of peri-implant were evaluated after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. RESULTS: The mean peri-implant esthetic score at first week in group I was 7.4 and in group II was 5.8, at first month in group I was 6.8 and in group II was 4.6, at third month in group I was 6.7 and in group II was 4.5 and at sixth month in group I was 6.4 and in group II was 4.4. The difference was significant (p value < 0.05). The mean peri-implant crestal bone loss (mm) after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months in group I was 0.24, 0.64, 0.86, and 1.04 and in group II was 0.28, 0.70, 0.94, and 1.14, respectively. The difference was nonsignificant (p value > 0.05). The mean peri-implant bone densitometry after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months in group I was 52.4, 45.6, 42.4, and 40.2 and in group II was 64.2, 60.5, 55.2, and 47.6, respectively. The difference was significant (p value < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Instantaneous implants exhibited enhanced esthetic and purposeful result such as healing of peri-implant bone and peri-implant soft tissues when compared to delayed implants. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Immediate implants can be used to improve esthetic and determined result in healing of peri-implant bone and peri-implant soft tissues.
