El Malestar en la Cultura Hoy / Civilization and its Discontents Today

El presente trabajo busca analizar la cultura occidental posmoderna actual con las herramientas conceptuales que desplegó Sigmund Freud en su trabajo de 1930 titulado “El Malestar en la Cultura”. Para ello, los autores desarrollan un resumen del trabajo original de Freud, intentando extraer las principales ideas subyacentes y buscando enfatizar el argumento central de dicha obra: el malestar sostenido por la relación entre las restricciones para la satisfacción pulsional y los ineludibles sentimientos de culpa. Luego, intentan hacer una descripción tanto de la cultura actual como del proceso social que llevó a ella, basándose en autores que ocupan ideas psicoanalíticas en su trabajo. Finalmente entregan su visión sobre cómo y porqué "el malestar en la cultura" ha aumentado hoy en día, y sobre el correlato de esto, en la labor del especialista en salud mental en Chile. Los autores postulan que bajo una apariencia opuesta a la mostrada por la cultura de la época Freudiana, las dinámicas propuestas por Freud para explicar la génesis del malestar cultural siguen plenamente vigentes y en una tensión conflictual mayor, aunque menos evidente

This paper aims to analyze the current postmodern occidental culture with the conceptual tools displayed by Sigmund Freud in his 1930 paper entitled Civilization and its Discontents. For this, the authors developed a summary of Freud´s original work, attempting to extract the underlying ideas, and emphasizing its central topic: the discontent sustained by the relation between the restrictions to instinctual satisfaction and unavoidable feelings of guilt. They make an effort to describe both the current culture and the social process that led to it, based on authors that occupied psychoanalytic ideas in their work. Finally they will give their own point of view about how and why the “civilization´s discontents” has increased nowadays, and about the correlate of this in the task of the mental health specialist in Chile. The authors state that beneath an appearance opposite to the culture shown at Freud´s time, the dynamics that this author proposed as an explanation to the genesis of the civilization´s discontents continue to be fully valid, and in an augmented conflictual tension, though less eviden

"Comprensión de los movimientos sociales a través del análisis de la transición política Chilena. Una revisión de Tótem y Tabú en nuestros días / Understanding social movements through the analysis of the Chilean political transition. A review of Totem and Taboo in our times

En el presente artículo los autores analizan la transición chilena a la democracia y desde ahí buscan una comprensión de los movimientos sociales actuales en Chile. Para esto utilizan el texto de Freud Tótem y Tabú. Se hace un resumen de este texto para luego extraer los elementos a utilizar en el posterior análisis como son la asimilación del padre de la horda primitiva con el dictador. Luego se plantea que los hermanos de la horda son la Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia, los que inconscientemente asumen un tótem: el modelo económico y la constitución implantada en la dictadura. Se analiza esta relación con los posteriores movimientos sociales y la dificultad para la elaboración del duelo resultante del régimen autoritario. Se concluye proponiendo éste como un modelo de transición posterior a una dictadura, que se puede relacionar como factor interno con los movimientos sociales actuales en Chile, mencionando otros factores a considerar

In the following paper, the authors analyze the Chilean transition to democracy and from there they try to comprehend the current social movements in Chile. For this they use Freud´s work Totem and Taboo. A summary of this text is done to extract the elements used in a further analysis, as in the assimilation between the father of the primitive horde and the dictator. It is later stated that the brothers of the horde are the Pact of Parties for Democracy, which unconsciously assume a totem: the economic model and the constitution introduced during the dictatorship. The link with the subsequent social movements and the difficulties in mourning, which result from the authoritarian regime, are analyzed. Finally this is proposed as a model for transition following a dictatorship, which can be related as an internal factor with the present social movements in Chile, mentioning other factors to be considered as well
