RESUMO

Analysis of published data and the author's own findings indicate that processes coursing in the miners of deep coal mines during hard physical work lead to hemodynamic and biochemical shifts, causing decreased production of thromboxane A2 in the kidneys and involvement of the proximal canaliculi. This, in turn, results in increased protein filtration and decrease reabsorption, which eventuates in stress proteinuria.

RESUMO

Miners working in deep coal mines, engaged in hard physical work under most harsh mine conditions demonstrate a striking imbalance between pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines and a rise in the blood levels of electrolytes K+ and Na+ as well. The analysis performed revealed a direct correlation between the level of blood concentration of IL-6 and that of K+, Na+.

RESUMO

Blood plasma levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) were measured in 45 miners working in a deep coal mine immediately after work shift using an immunoenzyme technique. The highest IL-6 level was recorded in those miners engaged in hard work under most adverse conditions of underground workings--it was found to exceed the control values. The same group of workers demonstrated the lowest level of IL-10 that differed from the control value. Miners aged between 41 to 50 years working in a coal mine, their underground service duration 16 to 20 years, displayed a decline in the level of IL-6. The coal mine miners with the 11- to 15-year service duration revealed an increase in the level of IL-10.

RESUMO

In 60 miners working in a deep coal mine the blood plasma level of endoteline-1 (E-1) was measured by the immunoenzyme technique immediately after working shift. Those in the mining where the working conditions are especially harsh were found to have the highest level of E-1 exceeding the control values. In studying the age-related content of E-1 in blood plasma of coal miners the highest levels of E-1 were recordable in workers 20 to 30 years old, declining and differing in age groups 20-30 and 41-50 years old. The level of E-1 was at its greatest in those workers with minimum length of service in the underground conditions, declining with the service more than 10 years in duration.

RESUMO

A study was made of the condition of the immune status and lipid peroxidation in 77 essentially healthy underground miners of a coal mine that showed a decline in cellular as well as humoral links of immunity and increase in amounts of circulating immune complexes. Moreover, the miners exhibited a rise in conjugated dienes, malonic dialdehyde, and catalase. The workers were divided into groups depending on how difficult were jobs they were assigned to. A relatedness was found out of enhancement of processes of lipid peroxidation and activity of antienzymatic defence to strenuousness of work performed.

RESUMO

In a study into the condition of central hemodynamics and water-salt metabolism made in 85 essentially healthy underground miners working in a coal mine those miners greater than 40 years old exhibited an increase in the peripheral vascular resistance together with a decrease in the power of the left ventricle and a rise in energy expenditure on blood redirection, which fact led to lowering of both volume- and velocity-related parameters for hemodynamics. Worsening of hemodynamic indexes was noted to be going on parallel to changes in water-salt metabolism: workers beyond thirty years of age showed an augmentation of the level of Na+ and creatinine in blood plasma, those greater than 40 years old demonstrated a reduction in urine creatinine, in those beyond fifty years of age glomerular filtration rate was found to be on decrease with fractional excretion of Na+ being on the increase.

RESUMO

Disturbances were disclosed in the functioning of the lysosomal and vacuolar apparatus in an electronic and histochemical investigation of 75 Wistar albino rats and 10 control animals exposed to acute and chronic overheating, with the numbers and structure of lysosomes undergoing changes, lysosomal membranes disrupting, which event was accompanied by an outgo of lysosomal contents into the cellular cytoplasm and beyond. There was no longer Golgi apparatus as a single whole; cellular cytoplasm stored lipid drops of low electron density with membrane inclusion and products of reaction to acid phosphatase in their matrix. Disruption of lysosomes and identification of acid phosphatase in cellular cytoplasm and Disse's space was presumably a cause of damage to the Golgi apparatus.

RESUMO

21 healthy miners with hematuria occurring after working hours (the study group) and healthy miners without hematuria (controls) were examined before and after work. Compared to controls before work, the study group had low activity of plasma renin (APR) and intensive glomerular filtration, low urine levels of Na+ and its rapid clearance. Compared to controls after work, hematuria subjects had low blood pressure, elevated APR, activated vasopressor prostanoids, low level of blood K+.

RESUMO

Blood and urine content of electrolytes and creatinine was determined in 76 essentially healthy miners before and after work shift, as was activity of plasma renin, blood plasma level of aldosterone and its urinary excretion, with the aid of radioimmunoassay. The greatest activity of the renin-angiotensine-aldosterone system (RAAS) occurred in those individuals engaged in hard physical labour under most harsh conditions of underground workings, this being recordable not only is response to the load but also from the very start. Controls and miners doing jobs of medium-level strenuousness demonstrated changes in the correlations between RAAS and water-salt balance after the work shift as compared with those before the work shift, while in those miners engaged in hard work correlations RAAS-water-salt exchange remained practically the same throughout the study.

RESUMO

Radioimmune assay determined serum renin activity, serum aldosterone level and its excretion with urine, amounts of thromboxane A2 (TxA2), prostacyclins PgI2 and PgF2a in urine of 76 apparently healthy miners before and after the working shift. Conventional techniques were used for estimation of blood and urine electrolytes and creatinine. In this connection activity of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) in the miners before and after the work appeared to depend on the age and the length of service, to reach the maximum at the age of 31-40 and at 11-15 years of the service. Afterwards the activity lowered. The miners older than 41 had RAAS response decreased or absent after the work. Ratio TxA2 PgI2 remained unchanged in the miners over age of 41, whereas in the younger miners the ratio considerably decreased during the work.

RESUMO

The authors' findings have lead them to a conclusion that urinary prostacyclin may be measured directly without preliminary extraction. Double freezing-defrosting of the samples did not change urinary thromboxane A2 level. Prolonged (up to 8 months) storage did not tell on urinary thromboxane A2 and blood plasma aldosterone levels.
