Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different psychological personalities and pain catastrophizing levels on postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing cesarean section. Patients and Methods: Puerperas who underwent cesarean section at our hospital between January and August 2023 were recruited into the study and assessed using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised Short Scale (EPQRSC) and Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS). Data on the numerical pain intensity at rest and during activity 24 h after surgery, number and dosage of analgesia pumps, and satisfaction with analgesia were recorded. According to the numerical pain score during activity 24 h post-operation, the patients were divided into the analgesia incomplete group (≥4) and control group (<4). Univariate analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis were used to evaluate the influence of personality characteristics and PCS on postoperative analgesia. Results: A total of 778 women were included in the study. The incidence of inadequate analgesia was 89.8%. The satisfaction rate of analgesia was 66.8%. Univariate analysis showed that extraversion; neuroticism; PCS; numbers of previous cesarean delivery; ASA; analgesic satisfaction; and 24-h analgesia pump compressions and dosage were associated with postoperative analgesia after cesarean section (P<0.05). Using binary logistic regression analysis, the first cesarean section (odds ratio [OR]=0.056, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.913-19.174), the number of 24-h analgesic pump compressions (OR=8.464, 95% CI=0.356-0.604), extraversion (OR=0.667, 95% CI=0.513-0.866), neuroticism (OR=1.427, 95% CI=1.104-1.844), and PCS (OR=7.718, 95% CI=0.657-0.783) were factors affecting postoperative analgesia. Conclusion: The incidence of inadequate analgesia after a cesarean section was high (89.8% on the first day after surgery). Formulating accurate analgesia programs for women undergoing cesarean section with extraversion, neuroticism personality characteristics, and pain catastrophizing behaviors is necessary for improving their postoperative analgesia effects and satisfaction and promoting postpartum comfort.

Natural plants fermented with probiotics exert beneficial effects on hyperlipidemia and gut microbiota disorders. This study aimed to investigate the hypolipidemic activity of fermented black tartary buckwheat (FBTB) in rats with hyperlipidemia induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) in association with the regulation of gut microbiota. Probiotic fermentation by Bacillus sp. DU-106 obviously increased the contents of tyrosine, lysine, total flavonoids, total polyphenols, quercetin, and kaempferol in black tartary buckwheat (BTB) and significantly decreased the rutin content. FBTB treatment for 8 weeks significantly decreased the levels of serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in HFD-induced hyperlipidemic rats. Western blot analysis further confirmed that the protein expression levels of FXR, SREBP1, and PPARα were altered after FBTB treatment. Moreover, FBTB intervention altered the gut microbiota of HFD-fed rats by increasing the relative abundances of Lactobacillus, Faecalibaculum, and Allobaculum and decreasing the relative abundance of Romboutsia. The relative abundance of Allobaculum was positively correlated with the levels of tyrosine, total flavonoids, total polyphenols, quercetin and kaempferol and negatively correlated with that of rutin. These results suggested that FBTB could alleviate hyperlipidemia and gut microbiota dysbiosis in HFD-fed rats.

BACKGROUND Nurses who work in hospitals experience a high level of burnout and the relationship between immune variables and burnout syndrome has yet to be elucidated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of job burnout on immune function in female oncology nurses in a tertiary oncology hospital in Guangxi, China. The aspects of the human immune system evaluated were humoral and cellular immunity and complement components 3 (C3) and 4 (C4). MATERIAL AND METHODS We administered the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), which includes scales for emotional exhaustion, depersonalization (DP), and personal accomplishment (PA), to measure variables related to immune function in 105 female nurses in a tertiary oncology hospital in Guangxi, China. Levels of humoral immunity and C3 and C4 were detected with immune turbidimetry. Cellular immunity was assessed with indirect immunofluorescence. RESULTS A Spearman rank correlation analysis revealed that levels of C3, C4, and CD4- and CD8-positive T cells were significantly associated with burnout symptoms (P<0.05, P<0.01, and P<0.05, respectively). Furthermore, there was a correlation between demographic data and humoral and cellular immunity (both P<0.05). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that C4 levels were closely related to DP (P<0.05) and that CD4 and CD8 levels were closely related to PA (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that DP and PA have an impact on immune function, and that timely psychological and behavioral interventions can be used to reduce the degree of job burnout among nurses and regulate their immunity, thus enabling them to better serve patients.

A water-soluble polysaccharide named CYP-1 was isolated from Chinese yam. CYP-1 was characterized as a mannoglucan having a backbone consisting predominately of 1,4-α-linked Glcp branched at O-2, O-3, and O-6 position by t-α-linked Manp with a molecular weight of 2.86 kDa. CYP-1 could inhibit the overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α and IL-1ß) in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells and DSS-induced colitis mice. Oral administration of CYP-1 dramatically alleviated colonic pathological damage, suppressed the activation of colonic inflammatory signaling pathways (such as NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome), recovered the mRNA expression of junctional proteins (such as ZO-1, claudin-1, occludin, and connexin-43), and modulated the gut microbiota by decreasing the abundances of Alistipes, Helicobacter, and an unidentified Enterobacteriaceae, in DSS-induced colitis mice. Overall, the present study elucidated that a new polysaccharide structure CYP-1 from Chinese yam and its therapeutic potential as a prebiotic for the prevention of inflammatory bowel disease.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the resilience of non-local medical workers sent to support local medical workers in treating the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). METHODS: In February 2020, non-local medical workers who had been sent to Wuhan as support staff to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak were asked to complete an online survey composed of the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ). RESULTS: Survey responses from 114 non-local medical workers were analyzed. CD-RISC scores were high (67.03 ± 13.22). The resilience level was highest for physicians (73.48 ± 11.49), followed by support staff, including health care assistants, technicians (67.78 ± 12.43) and nurses (64.86 ± 13.46). Respondents differed significantly in the levels of education, training/support provided by the respondent's permanent hospital (where he or she normally works), and in their feelings of being adequately prepared and confident to complete tasks (P < 0.05). Resilience correlated negatively with anxiety (r = -.498, P < 0.01) and depression (r = -.471, P < 0.01) but positively with active coping styles (r = .733, P < 0.01). Multiple regression analysis showed that active coping (ß = 1.314, p < 0.05), depression (ß = -.806, p < 0.05), anxiety (ß = - 1.091, p < 0.05), and training/support provided by the respondent's permanent hospital (ß = 3.510, p < 0.05) were significant associated with resilience. CONCLUSION: Our data show that active coping, depression, anxiety, and training/support provided by the respondent's permanent hospital are associated with resilience. Managers of medical staff should use these data to develop psychosocial interventions aimed at reinforcing the resilience of medical workers during highly stressful and prolonged medical emergencies, as seen during the COVID-19 outbreak.
