RESUMO

An account is given in this paper of intestinal intubation, the most promising approach at present to postoperative ileus. Reference is made to causes and to preventive methods used in the past. Classical techniques and their variants are described, with peculiarities being mentioned together with possible complications. Positive results have enlarged the list of intraabdominal diseases in which cases intubation should be justified. Fifteen children died out of 55 with intestinal intubation. However, those deaths could not be attributed to intubation, since no ileus was recordable on post-mortem from any of these cases. They were rather attribute to pre-existence of general damage or to postoperative complications which had unfavourable effects primarily on prematurely born children, newborns, and infants up to one month of age. Hence, intestinal intubation may be considered to be the most effective and least risky approach to the control of mechanical or combined paralytico-mechanical ileus.

RESUMO

No generally valid and accepted views, applicable to all severities, have so far existed regarding aetiopathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for surgical approach to anorectal prolapse in childhood. More ground has been assumed in recent years by sclerosing therapy. The injections therapy has proved to be highly suitable for severity stages One and Two and for Type I according to Reifferscheid and Altemeier. It should be used before more invasive surgical interventions are decided. This conclusion has been drawn by the authors of this paper from their own therapeutic results obtained from 37 cases of anorectal prolapse in childhood, with therapeutic sclerosing being used in 23 instances.

RESUMO

Diagnosing posttraumatic haemobilia is difficult since the symptoms are neither specific nor early or easy to detect. At present the mortality rate comes up to 20%. Clinical signs and diagnostic procedures are described in detail. Selective ligation of the liver arteries or partial resection of the involved lobes of the liver seem to be the best treatment. 3 cases are presented.
