Evaluation of seromas in postmastectomy breast reconstruction: A retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate seroma complications, two techniques were carried out in breast reconstruction: conventional latissimus dorsi flap (CLD) and muscle-sparing latissimus dorsi flap (MSLD) after cancer-related mastectomy. METHODS: A total of 108 postmastectomy procedures were performed with autologous tissue reconstruction with latissimus dorsi flaps (LDs) between January 2016 and May 2020. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group was reconstruction with the CLD, and the second group was reconstruction with the MSLD. Forty (40) patients in the first group and 68 patients in the second group were analyzed. Seroma formation was evaluated as the primary outcome. RESULTS: The total number of seromas found in the donor area was 27, of which 45% (n = 18) were found with the CLD and 13.24% (n = 9) with the MSLD, with a difference of 31.76% in favor of the MSLD, with an 95% CI of 14-49 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: We found a significantly lower incidence of seroma as a complication in patients who underwent MSLD breast reconstruction compared with those who underwent CLD breast reconstruction.

Towards acoustic discrimination of tropical tuna associated with Fish Aggregating Devices.

Tropical tuna support some of the largest and most valuable artisanal and industrial fisheries worldwide, conducted to a large degree with Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs). Yellowfin, bigeye and skipjack are the main tuna species found in mixed aggregations around FADs and they are simultaneously encircled by the purse seining operation. One of the key challenges that purse seine fleets fishing with drifting FADs face in all oceans is to be able to target species in healthy condition such as skipjack, while reducing impacts on bigeye and yellowfin in areas where there is a need to reduce fishing pressure on these species. The present paper explores a technical solution for selective fishing at FADs by means of acoustic equipment used by purse seiners. Acoustic frequency response of skipjack and bigeye tuna were determined at 38, 120 and 200 kHz. Skipjack showed stronger response at higher frequencies. On the contrary, bigeye showed stronger responses at lower frequencies. The robust pattern shown in frequency responses of the two species demonstrates the potential to predict abundance and species proportions based on purely acoustic measures. The paper also addresses the conditions that need to be met to successfully apply this technology for selective fishing as well as other uses of direct acoustic observations to support tuna conservation.

Las bases socioculturales en la formación del psicólogo / The sociocultural bases in the formation of the psychologist

Quiero aprovechar este escenario que hoy nos convoca, para presentar a consideración de ustedes una serie de reflexiones en torno a las bases de formación social y cultural del psicólogo de nuestros días. Para ello me valdré del esfuerzo de construcción de una propuesta formativa que hace ya 7 años venimos realizando en la Institución Universitaria de Envigado, en donde, junto a los saberes psicológicos y neurocientíficos propios de las exigencias legales para formación específica en Psicología, coexisten si se quiere, de manera ecléctica y crítica una variedad de saberes de las llamadas ciencias sociales y humanas.

I would like to approve of this scenario that has been summoned to us today, to present the consideration of a series of reflections around the bases of social and cultural formation of the psychologist of some days. For the sake of the effort to construct a formative proposition that we have been doing for 7 years in the University Institution of Envigado, where, along with the psychological and neuroscientific knowledge proper to the legal requirements for specific formation in Psychology, coexist itself of eclectic and critical form a variety of knowledge of the so-called social and human sciences.
