[Problem based learning: achievement of educational goals in the information and comprehension sub-categories of Bloom cognitive domain]. / Aprendizaje basado en problemas: logros de aprendizaje en las sub-categorias de información y comprensión del dominio cognitivo de Bloom.

The aim this work was to assess and compare the achievements of medical students, subjected to problem based learning methodology. The information and comprehension categories of Bloom were tested in 17 medical students in four different occasions during the physiopathology course, using a multiple choice knowledge test. There was a significant improvement in the number of correct answers towards the end of the course. It is concluded that these medical students obtained adequate learning achievements in the information subcategory of Bloom using problem based learning methodology, during the physiopathology course.

[Prevalence of endemic goiter among school children of central and southern Chile]. / Prevalencia de bocio endémico en escolares del centro y sur de Chile.

The prevalence of endemic goiter was evaluated during 1986 in 1,015 school age children from basic public schools of Santiago and Temuco, Chile. The prevalence of goiter, defined by WHO's standards was 7.6% as a whole, without differences related to children's geographical origin. A greater prevalence of goiter, in females than in males, which increased with age, was detected. Prevalence of endemic goiter decreased from year 1982 to year 1986 from 18.8% to 7.4% in similar samples of school children from Santiago. This change may be due to preventive iodination of table salt.
