RESUMO

Background: Determine the behavior of the maxillofacial trauma of adults treated in 3 tertiary care centers in the central zone of Chile. Material and Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional, multicenter study, based on the prospective records of maxillofacial trauma cases attended between May 2016 and April 2017 by dental and maxillofacial clinical teams of Adult Emergency Units of hospitals Dr. Sótero del Río (metropolitan region), Carlos Van Buren and Dr. Gustavo Fricke (region V). Age, sex, date of occurrence, type of trauma according to ICD-10, etiology, legal medical prognosis and associated injuries were recorded, stratifying by sex and age. Chi square and unpaired Wilcoxon tests were used to compare by groups. Results: 2.485 cases and 3.285 injuries were investigated. The male: female ratio was 1.7: 1 with age under 30 predominant, followed by older adults. Variability was observed in the yearly, weekly and daily presentation The highest frequencies were in January and September, weekends and at night. The main etiologies were violence (42.3%), falls (13.1%) and road traffic crashes (12.9%) with differences by age and sex (p <0.05). 31,9% of the injuries occurred in hard tissue, being fractures in nasal bones predominant (S02.2). Conclusions: the profile of the maxillofacial trauma in Chile seems to be mixed by age, affecting young people and the elderly. The male sex predominates; the main cause, which varies by age group, is violence. Their surveillance is possible from hospital emergency records

RESUMO

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic oligosaccharides of wide industrial application, whose synthesis is catalyzed by Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) from starch. Here, CDs were produced using CGTase from Bacillus circulans DF 9R in continuous process and an ultrafiltration membrane reactor. The batch process was conducted as a control. This method allowed increasing the yield from 40 to 55.6% and the productivity from 26.1 to 99.5 mg of CD per unit of enzyme. The method also allowed obtaining a high-purity product. The flow rate remained at 50% of its initial value after 24 h of process, improving the results described in the literature for starch hydrolysis processes. CGTase remained active throughout the process, which could be explained by the protective effect of the substrate and reaction products on CGTase stability. In addition, batch processes were developed using starches from different sources. We concluded that any of the starches studied could be used as substrate for CD production with similar yields and product specificity.

The following text appears here in the context of UBACyT research project P423 "Analysis of the practice of juridical psychology regarding crimes against sexual integrity (law 25087/99) and sexual rights. Institutional-organizational, simbolic-imaginary, and historic-genealogic dimensions."; directed by Lic. Matilde de la Iglesia, and thus included in the University of Buenos Aires´ Department of Science and Techniques 2008-2010 scientific program. This article develops an analysis on Edmond de Goncourt´s novel "La Fille Elisa" from which a series of psychologistics and judiciary preconceptions closely related to the intention of cleansing sexuality from its political dimension can be discussed and redefined. It also attempts to contribute to an interdiscursive encounter, permeable to the particularities that constitute the social-imaginary tissue which underlay the practices and other characteristics of what we define as "closed institutions".

RESUMO

Rupture of a vulnerable plaque is the main cause of acute coronary syndromes and myocardial infarction. The features of rupture-prone atherosclerotic plaques have been previously described by pathologists. However, identification of vulnerable plaques in vivo is essential to study their natural history and to evaluate potential treatment modalities. Coronary angiography is the gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, but it is unable to distinguish between stable and unstable plaques and to accurately predict future cardiac events. This current perspective describes the recently developed invasive imaging techniques to detect atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques in the coronary tree.

RESUMO

Mukali (Aningeria robusta) is an exotic wood from the Sapotaceae family. We describe the case of a 31-year-old woman who developed bronchial asthma and contact urticaria after occupational exposure to mukali. A positive immediate response was observed in the skin prick test, bronchial challenge and the rubbing test performed with a mukali wood extract. We suggest that an IgE-mediated immunological mechanism could explain these findings. Our case report identifies another wood dust capable of inducing occupational asthma.

RESUMO

We report on a patient with asthma induced by occupational exposure to egg used to spray cakes before baking. A type I hypersensitivity to egg white was demonstrated by means of skin test, immunoassay for specific IgE, and immediate bronchial provocation test response to an egg white extract.
