Academic-Practice Partnerships, EHR in Nursing Curriculum, and the Value Equation.

Workforce well-being and associated factors such as burnout, depression and documentation burden, have been identified as the highest concerns to be addressed. In academia, the new essentials of nursing practice including domain 8 for informatics and healthcare technology have become a focus for curricular revisions/enhancements. Our study focused on technology skills by using the technology of an academic EHR to measure baselines and progression of EHR use, sense of confidence, documentation competency, and post-graduation employer-based performance assessment. We provide results of an ongoing 1.5-year study and overarching strategy for university-wide deployment and financing.

Resilience, Stress, Anxiety, and Depression: Exploring the Mental Health of New Graduate Nurses Transitioning to Practice During COVID-19.

Background Transitioning to practice during the COVID-19 pandemic multiplied the stressors and challenges typically encountered by new graduate nurses (NGNs), yet research exploring mental health variables of this subset of nurses remains sparse. Method This study used an observational design and convenience sampling. NGN alumni (n = 192) from a pre-licensure nursing program were surveyed during the summer of 2021 regarding their experiences with resilience, anxiety, depression, and stress while transitioning to practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results Participants reported moderate to severe levels of stress (76%), anxiety (27.6%), and depression (31.2%) while transitioning to practice. Most (79%) described themselves as resilient. The highest mean scores for stress, anxiety, and depression occurred during the fourth to eighth month of practice. Conclusion Nursing professional development specialists, managers, and other stakeholders need effective strategies to monitor and promote NGNs' well-being and mental health to prevent burnout and turnover throughout the first year of practice. The Feasibility of Accelerating to Practice™ for Senior Baccalaureate Nursing Students' Capstone Experience.

ABSTRACT: With the ongoing debate on transition-to-practice gaps and lack of readiness for practice by novice nurses, curricular enhancements and innovation are imperative. A feasibility study was undertaken to inform and assess the integration of an Accelerating to Practice (A2P) curriculum in an academic context. Data from senior capstone students, faculty, and clinical preceptors provide evidence of the usefulness and applicability of A2P to provide intentional learning outcomes targeted at new graduates' areas of weakness. This experience was aimed at clinical decision-making with psychomotor skill-laden activities deemphasized. A2P scaffolding aided in deeper learning and resulted in improved student learning.

Considerations for the Effective Integration of Virtual Simulation in the Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum.

ABSTRACT: Nursing education employs a cadre of strategies to address faculty shortages, increased student admissions, and the decreased availability of clinical sites. Virtual simulation provides an innovative way to provide a robust learning experience that can be used in conjunction with or in lieu of some portion of clinical experiences. The authors highlight how virtual simulation can be used and outline considerations for educators considering virtual simulation integration.
