RESUMO

133 patients with laryngopharyngeal cancer were exposed to preoperative radiation. 4 schemes were used: fractionated long-term radiation alone [1], focused radiation+radiation-modifier metronidazole [2], focused radiation+local hyperthermia (3), focused radiation only (4). It was established that advances in the outcomes can be obtained upon the use of regimen 2 and 3 as recurrence-free survival reached 71% compared to 48-52% in the controls (p < 0.02). No severe postoperative complications were registered.
