By means of the surface and color fixation test specific cross-reactions were detected in mixtures of serum from two patients suffering from the same type of neoplasia, and it was of interest that tests with 105 sera from well proven cases produced reactions which were consistent with the clinical and pathological reports.

The surface fixation method has been found to be a reliable procedure for detection of antibodies of retrogenetic origin in cancer serum and also for specific immunoglobulins stimulated by antigens sinthezized in malignant cells. An insoluble extract obtained from human placentas has been used for detection of retrogenectic antibodies and with soluble substances obtained from the urine of patients it has been possible to detect what seem to be specific antibodies in retinoblastoma, Hodgkin, sarcoma and carcinoma. However with a urine extract from leukemia patients the positive reactions occur with leukemia serum from leukemia as well as with the related lymphoma and myeloma. Circulating tumor associated antigens can be detected in mixtures of an anti-fetal serum with cancer serum, but cross-reactions have been found in similar tests with pregnant women's serum.

RESUMO

An attempt has been made to use the rapid surface fixation method for the investigation of immunological reactions in mixtures of sera from mothers and their mongoloid children. This preliminary report has been encouraging since all positive reactions were properly controlled with the serum of patients suffering from various clinical conditions but free of Down's syndrome. A water soluble substance was isolated from the urine of patients which produced positive reactions like those performed with the serum of mongoloid children.

RESUMO

An attempt to use the "surface fixation" method for the detection of antigen-antibody reactions with VDRL and Treponema pallidum has given results which corroborate conventional serological findings in patients suspected of being infected with this organism. The test is performed over strips of filter paper in which mixtures of the serum with the antigen are deposited and submitted to a special procedure of staining in order to detect antigen-antibody reactions.

RESUMO

Surface fixation has been used to detect antigen antibody-reactions with bacteria, protozooa and in some instances with drugs considered responsible of adverse reactions attributed to allergy. The application of this method to penicillin is reported. The test has been positive with serum from well-proven cases of hypersensitivity but also in subjects that had undergone penicillin treatment. So far, no comparative observations with conventional tests have been made; however, if the presence of circulating antibody is considered the cause of adverse reactions to penicillin, this simple test may have clinical usefulness.

RESUMO

Surface fixation is a rapid and simple method for the detection of antigen-antibody reactions. It has been used as an epidemiologic and diagnostic criterium for brucellosis, typhus and typhoid fever and recently found to be an encouraging test for amebiasis. Data concerning its application in toxoplasmosis has been considered a justified addition to the more complicated procedures used for the diagnosis of this infection, which has become a world-wide problem. It may thus be used as a screening test, as well as a simplified method of titration of postive sera.
