RESUMO

BACKGROUND: However, the connection between smoking and the prognosis of patients with bladder cancer remains unclear. AIM: To determine whether smoking is linked to the recurrence and progression of bladder cancer. METHODS: As of July 20, 2022, relevant English-language research was identified by searching PubMed, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. We pooled the available data from the included studies using a random effects model. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted. RESULTS: A total of 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The combined analysis revealed that tobacco exposure was associated with a significantly greater recurrence rate than nonsmoking status [odd ratios (OR) = 1.76, 95%CI: 1.84-2.93], and the progression of bladder cancer was significantly greater in smokers than in nonsmokers (OR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.02-1.44). Stratified analysis further revealed that current smokers were more likely to experience relapse than never-smokers were (OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.11-3.07). Former smokers also had a greater risk of relapse than did never-smokers (OR = 1.73, 95%CI: 1.09-2.73). Subgroup analysis indicated that non-Caucasians may be more susceptible to bladder cancer recurrence than Caucasians are (OR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.74-2.61). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis revealed that tobacco exposure may be a significant risk factor for both the recurrence and progression of bladder cancer.

RESUMO

The Yangtze River (hereafter referred to as the YZR), the largest river in China, is of paramount importance for ensuring water resource security. The Yangtze River Basin (hereafter referred to as the YRB) is one of the most densely populated areas in China, and complex human activities have a significant impact on the ecological security of water resources. Therefore, this paper employs theories related to ecological population evolution and the Driving Force-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) model to construct an indicator system for the ecological security of water resources in the YRB. The report evaluates the ecological security status of water resources in each province of the YRB from 2010 to 2019, clarifies the development trend of its water resource ecological security, and proposes corresponding strategies for regional ecological security and coordinated economic development. According to the results of the ecological population evolution competition model, the overall indicator of the ecological security of water resources in the YRB continues to improve, with the safety level increasing annually. Maintaining sound management of water resources in the YRB is crucial for sustainable socioeconomic development. To further promote the ecological security of water resources in the YRB and the coordinated development of the regional economy, this paper proposes policy suggestions such as promoting the continuous advancement of sustainable development projects, actively adjusting industrial structure, continuously enhancing public environmental awareness, and actively participating in international ecological construction and seeking cooperation among multiple departments.

RESUMO

The screening of colorectal cancer (CRC) is pivotal for both the prevention and treatment of this disease, significantly improving early-stage tumor detection rates. This advancement not only boosts survival rates and quality of life for patients but also reduces the costs associated with treatment. However, the adoption of CRC screening methods faces numerous challenges, including the technical limitations of both noninvasive and invasive methods in terms of sensitivity and specificity. Moreover, socioeconomic factors such as regional disparities, economic conditions, and varying levels of awareness affect screening uptake. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic further intensified these cha-llenges, leading to reduced screening participation and increased waiting periods. Additionally, the growing prevalence of early-onset CRC necessitates innovative screening approaches. In response, research into new methodologies, including artificial intelligence-based systems, aims to improve the precision and accessibility of screening. Proactive measures by governments and health organizations to enhance CRC screening efforts are underway, including increased advocacy, improved service delivery, and international cooperation. The role of technological innovation and global health collaboration in advancing CRC screening is undeniable. Technologies such as artificial intelligence and gene sequencing are set to revolutionize CRC screening, making a significant impact on the fight against this disease. Given the rise in early-onset CRC, it is crucial for screening strategies to continually evolve, ensuring their effectiveness and applicability.

RESUMO

Metal-organic frameworks have demonstrated great capacity in catalytic CO2 reduction due to their versatile pore structures, diverse active sites, and functionalization capabilities. In this study, a novel electrocatalytic framework for CO2 reduction was designed and implemented using 2D coordination network-type transition metal-hexahydroxytricyclic quinazoline (TM-HHTQ) materials. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to examine the binding energies between the HHTQ substrate and 10 single TM atoms, ranging from Sc to Zn, which revealed a stable distribution of metal atoms on the HHTQ substrate. The majority of the catalysts exhibited high selectivity for CO2 reduction, except for the Mn-HHTQ catalysts, which only exhibited selectivity at pH values above 4.183. Specifically, Ti and Cr primarily produced HCOOH, with corresponding 0.606 V and 0.236 V overpotentials. Vanadium produced CH4 as the main product with an overpotential of 0.675 V, while Fe formed HCHO with an overpotential of 0.342 V. Therefore, V, Cr, Fe, and Ti exhibit promising potential as electrocatalysts for carbon dioxide reduction due to their favorable product selectivity and low overpotential. Cu mainly produces CH3OH as the primary product, with an overpotential of 0.96 V. Zn primarily produces CO with a relatively high overpotential of 1.046 V. In contrast, catalysts such as Sc, Mn, Ni, and Co, among others, produce multiple products simultaneously at the same rate-limiting step and potential threshold.

RESUMO

This study investigates the utilisation of organometallic network frameworks composed of fourth-period transition metals and tetrahydroxyquinone (THQ) in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed in analysing binding energies, as well as the stabilities of metal atoms within the THQ frameworks, for transition metal TM-THQs ranging from Y to Cd. The findings demonstrate how metal atoms could be effectively dispersed and held within the THQ frameworks due to sufficiently high binding energies. Most TM-THQ frameworks exhibited favourable selectivity towards CO2 reduction, except for Tc and Ru, which experienced competition from hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and required solution environments with pH values greater than 5.716 and 8.819, respectively, to exhibit CO2RR selectivity. Notably, the primary product of Y, Ag, and Cd was HCOOH; Mo produced HCHO; Pd yielded CO; and Zr, Nb, Tc, Ru, and Rh predominantly generated CH4. Among the studied frameworks, Zr-THQ displayed values of 1.212 V and 1.043 V, corresponding to the highest limiting potential and overpotential, respectively, while other metal-organic frameworks displayed relatively low ranges of overpotentials from 0.179 V to 0.949 V. Consequently, it is predicted that the TM-THQ framework constructed using a fourth-period transition metal and tetrahydroxyquinone exhibits robust electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 catalytic activity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the genetic background and clinical phenotypes of multiple idiopathic cervical root resorption (MICRR) in a Chinese family. METHODS: The proband and his three family members were clinically examined and had radiographs taken with a radiovisiography (RVG) system and CBCT to define the diagnosis of MICRR. Genomic DNA (gDNA) was extracted from peripheral blood samples of the patient, his father, mother and younger sister for whole exome sequencing (WES). The pathogenicity of rare variants with minor allele frequency (MAF) less than 0.005 were analysed following possible inheritance patterns, predicted results from 12 software programs, the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) 2015 criteria, and information from ClinVar, OMIM and HGMD databases as well as gene function. RESULTS: The proband presented the typical MICRR phenotypes such as thin cervical pulp wall and apple core-like lesions in radiographs. Following the recessive inheritance pattern, WES analysis identified SHROOM2, SYTL5, MAGED1 and FLNA with a higher chance of causing MICRR. Four genes with compound heterozygous variants and another 27 genes with de novo variants either in autosomal-dominant or autosomal-recessive pattern were also found to have the potential pathogenicity. CONCLUSION: A total of 35 novel potential pathogenic genes were found to be associated with MICRR from a Chinese family through WES. The new genetic background of MICRR may be helpful for clinical and molecular diagnosis.

RESUMO

Aim: No information exists on the availability of pediatric medicines in China. This study aimed to access the availability of different types of pediatric medicine and determine their ratio in medical institution drug catalogs. Methods: Based on drug instructions, an expert meeting method was used to divide pediatric medicines into five categories: child-specific medicine (CSM), co-use medicine for adults and children (CMAC), other pediatric medicines (OCM), off-label medicine use (OMU), and non-child medicine (NM). Results: A total of 60 hospitals nationwide participated in this survey, namely, 20 children's hospitals (C-hosp), 14 maternal and child healthcare hospitals (MCHC-hosp), and 26 general hospitals (G-hosp). The average number of drug catalogs in G-hosp was significantly higher than that in C-hosp and MCHC-hosp. CSM accounted for 9.77% of the C-hosp catalog, 7.12% of the MCHC-hosp catalog, and 1% of the G-hosp catalog. The availability rate of CMAC was 49.63% in C-hosp and 40.87% and 31% in MCHC-hosp and G-hosp, respectively. The proportion of OCM in C-hosp (27.28%) was higher than that in MCHC-hosp (13.4%) and G-hosp (5%). The OMU occupied ratio in C-hosp, MCHC-hosp, and G-hosp is not negligible, which was 12.06%, 8.7%, and 10% respectively. The proportion of NM in C-hosp was almost negligible but was 29.91% and 53% in MCHC-hosp and G-hosp, respectively. Compared to the CSM and CMAC listed in China, the share of CSM in C-hosp was close to 40%, which was much higher than that of G-hosp and MCHC-hosp. In contrast, the share of CMAC in G-hosp was nearly 30%, which was significantly higher than that in C-hosp and MCHC-hosp. Health insurance covers most of these five types of pediatric medicines, with the proportion of insured medicines reaching close to 80% in C-hosp and approximately 85% in MCHC-hosp and G-hosp. Discussion: The availability of specific medicines suitable for use in children is generally low, and even CSM in specialized hospitals such as C-hosp cannot meet the relatively high accessibility level of WHO evaluation standards. Policies and measures should be implemented to boost the research and development of pediatric medicines, as well as supplement safety information lacking in instruction manuals.

RESUMO

Background: Utilizing high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy may prevent the collapse of alveoli and improve overall alveolar ventilation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of HFNC on postoperative atelectasis in individuals undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery. Methods: Patients undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer were randomly assigned to the control or HFNC groups. After the surgical procedure was complete and the trachea was extubated, both groups underwent an initial lung ultrasound (LUS) scan. In the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), the control group received conventional nasal cannula oxygen therapy, while the HFNC group received high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy. A second LUS scan was conducted before the patient was transferred to the ward. The primary outcome measured was the total LUS score at the time of PACU discharge. Results: In the HFNC group (n = 39), the LUS score and the incidence of atelectasis at PACU discharge were significantly lower compared to the control group (n = 39) [(5 vs 10, P < 0.001), (48.72% vs 82.05%, P = 0.002)]. None of the patients in the HFNC group experienced hypoxemia in the PACU, whereas six patients in the control group did (P = 0.03). Additionally, the minimum SpO2 value in the PACU was notably higher in the HFNC group compared to the control group [99 vs 97, P < 0.001]. Conclusion: Based on the results, HFNC improves the extent of postoperative atelectasis and decreases the occurrence of atelectasis in individuals undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Current cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) focuses on measures of ventricular function and coupling. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate pulmonary artery (PA) global longitudinal strain (GLS) as a prognostic marker in patients with PAH. METHODS: The authors included 169 patients with PAH from the ASPIRE (Assessing the Spectrum of Pulmonary hypertension Identified at a REferral centre) and INITIATE (Integrated computatioNal modelIng of righT heart mechanIcs and blood flow dynAmics in congeniTal hEart disease) registries, and 82 normal controls with similar age and gender distributions. PA GLS was derived from CMR feature tracking. Right ventricular measurements including volumes, ejection fraction, and right ventricular GLS were also derived from CMR. Patients were followed up a median of 34 months with all-cause mortality as the primary endpoint. Other known risk scores were collected, including the REVEAL (Registry to Evaluate Early and Long-term Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Disease Management) 2.0 and COMPERA (Comparative, Prospective Registry of Newly Initiated Therapies for Pulmonary Hypertension) 2.0 scores. RESULTS: Of 169 patients (mean age: 57 ± 15 years; 80% female), 45 (26.6%) died (median follow-up: 34 months). Mean PA GLS was 23% ± 6% in normal controls and 10% ± 5% in patients with PAH (P < 0.0001). Patients with PA GLS <9% had a higher risk of mortality than those with PA GLS ≥9% (P < 0.001), and this was an independent predictor of mortality in PAH on multivariable analysis after adjustment for known risk factors (HR: 2.93; P = 0.010). Finally, in patients with PAH, PA GLS provided incremental prognostic value over the REVEAL 2.0 (global chi-square; P = 0.001; C statistic comparison; P = 0.030) and COMPERA 2.0 (global chi-square; P = 0.001; C statistic comparison; P = 0.048). CONCLUSIONS: PA GLS confers incremental prognostic utility over the established risk scores for identifying patients with PAH at higher risk of death, who may be targeted for closer monitoring and/or intensified therapy.

RESUMO

Introduction: Management of aortic stenosis (AS) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may often be overlooked, and this could confer poorer outcomes. Methods: Consecutive patients (n = 727) with index echocardiographic diagnosis of moderate to severe AS (aortic valve area <1.5 cm2) were examined. They were divided into those with CKD (estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min) and those without. Baseline clinical and echocardiographic parameters were compared, and a multivariate Cox regression model was constructed. Clinical outcomes were compared using Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: There were 270 (37.1%) patients with concomitant CKD. The CKD group was older (78.0 ± 10.3 vs. 72.1 ± 12.9 years, P < 0.001), with a higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia and ischaemic heart disease. AS severity did not differ significantly, but left ventricular (LV) mass index (119.4 ± 43.7 vs. 112.3 ± 40.6 g/m2, P = 0.027) and Doppler mitral inflow E to annular tissue Doppler e' ratio (E: e' 21.5 ± 14.6 vs. 17.8 ± 12.2, P = 0.001) were higher in the CKD group. There was higher mortality (log-rank 51.5, P < 0.001) and more frequent admissions for cardiac failure (log-rank 25.9, P < 0.001) in the CKD group, with a lower incidence of aortic valve replacement (log-rank 7.12, P = 0.008). On multivariate analyses, after adjusting for aortic valve area, age, left ventricular ejection fraction and clinical comorbidities, CKD remained independently associated with mortality (hazard ratio 1.96, 95% confidence interval 1.50-2.57, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Concomitant CKD in patients with moderate to severe AS was associated with increased mortality, more frequent admissions for cardiac failure and a lower incidence of aortic valve replacement.

RESUMO

Vegetation phenology is an important sensor that responds to environmental changes. Based on MOD13Q1 EVI data, we used the dynamic threshold method to extract vegetation phenological parameters of the central Yunnan urban agglomeration from 2001 to 2020, namely the start of growing season, the end of growing season, and the length of growing season, aiming to reveal the spatiotemporal variations in vegetation phenology and urban-rural differences. The results showed that vegetation phenology of the central Yunnan urban agglomeration from 2001 to 2020 generally showed a phenomenon of delayed start of growing season, delayed the end of growing season (0.66 days per year), and prolonged growing season. Compared with suburban and rural areas, growing season in urban areas in the past 20 years had started earlier (1.05 days per year), ended later (0.91 days per year), and thus growing season had been prolonged (1.79 days per year). Vegetation phenology showed significant difference on the gradient of urban, suburban, and rural areas. The start and the end of growing season of urban vegetation were the earliest, and the length of growing season was the longest, with the most significant changes in the urban areas and within the range of 0-2 km outward. The start of growing season in urban area was significantly earlier, the end of growing season was significantly delayed, and length of growing season was prolonged significantly with the increase of population density, per capita GDP, and the proportion of built-up area. The sensitivity of different phenological periods of vegetation and their duration to environmental changes varied on the gradient of urban, suburban and rural areas. Population density and proportion of built-up area in the study area played an important role in delaying the end of growing season of vegetation in the central Yunnan urban agglomeration.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) offers comprehensive right ventricular (RV) evaluation in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Emerging four-dimensional (4D) flow CMR allows visualization and quantification of intracardiac flow components and calculation of phasic blood kinetic energy (KE) parameters but it is unknown whether these parameters are associated with cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET)-assessed exercise capacity, which is a surrogate measure of survival in PAH. We compared 4D flow CMR parameters in PAH with healthy controls, and investigated the association of these parameters with RV remodelling, RV functional and CPET outcomes. METHODS: PAH patients and healthy controls from two centers were prospectively enrolled to undergo on-site cine and 4D flow CMR, and CPET within one week. RV remodelling index was calculated as the ratio of RV to left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic volumes (EDV). Phasic (peak systolic, average systolic, and peak E-wave) LV and RV blood flow KE indexed to EDV (KEIEDV) and ventricular LV and RV flow components (direct flow, retained inflow, delayed ejection flow, and residual volume) were calculated. Oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2) and minute ventilation (VE) were measured and recorded. RESULTS: 45 PAH patients (46 ± 11 years; 7 M) and 51 healthy subjects (46 ± 14 years; 17 M) with no significant differences in age and gender were analyzed. Compared with healthy controls, PAH had significantly lower median RV direct flow, RV delayed ejection flow, RV peak E-wave KEIEDV, peak VO2, and percentage (%) predicted peak VO2, while significantly higher median RV residual volume and VE/VCO2 slope. RV direct flow and RV residual volume were significantly associated with RV remodelling, function, peak VO2, % predicted peak VO2 and VE/VCO2 slope (all P < 0.01). Multiple linear regression analyses showed RV direct flow to be an independent marker of RV function, remodelling and exercise capacity. CONCLUSION: In this 4D flow CMR and CPET study, RV direct flow provided incremental value over RVEF for discriminating adverse RV remodelling, impaired exercise capacity, and PAH with intermediate and high risk based on risk score. These data suggest that CMR with 4D flow CMR can provide comprehensive assessment of PAH severity, and may be used to monitor disease progression and therapeutic response. RESUMO

Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a high incidence and fatality rate worldwide, being among the most prevalent cancers. The growing body of data indicating cellular senescence (CS) to be a critical factor in hepatocarcinogenesis. The predictive value of CS in HBV-related HCC and its role in the immune microenvironment are unknown. To determine the cellular senescence profile of HBV-related HCC and its role in shaping the immune microenvironment, this study employed a rigorous evaluation of multiple datasets encompassing 793 HBV-related HCC samples. Two novel distinct CS subtypes were first identified by nonnegative matrix factorization, and we found that the senescence-activated subgroup had the worst prognosis and correlated with cancer progression. C1 and C2 were identified as the senescence-suppressed and senescence-activated subgroups. The immune microenvironment indicated that C2 exhibited a relatively low immune status, higher tumor purity, and lower immune scores and estimated scores, while the C1 subgroup possessed a better prognosis. The CS score signature based on five genes (CENPA, EZH2, G6PD, HDAC1, and PRPF19) was established using univariate Cox regression and the lasso method. ICGC-LIRI and GSE14520 cohorts were used to validate the reliability of the CS scoring system. In addition, we examined the association between the risk score and hallmark pathways through gene set variation analysis and gene set enrichment analysis. The results revealed a high CS score to be associated with the activation of cell senescence-related pathways. The CS score and other clinical features were combined to generate a CS dynamic nomogram with a better predictive capacity for OS at 1, 2, and 3 years than other clinical parameters. Our study demonstrated that cellular senescence patterns play a non-negligible role in shaping the characteristics of the immune microenvironment and profoundly affecting tumor prognosis. The results of this study will help predict patient prognosis more accurately and may assist in development of personalized immunotherapy for HBV-related HCC patients.

RESUMO

Cathode coatings have received extensive attention due to their ability to delay electrochemical performance degradation in lithium-ion batteries. However, the development of cathode coatings possessing high ionic conductivity and good interfacial stability with cathode materials has proven to be a challenge. Here, we performed first-principles computational studies on the phase stability, thermodynamic stability, and ionic transport properties of LiMXO4F (M-X = Al-P and Mg-S) used as cathode coatings. We find that the candidate coatings are thermodynamically metastable and can be synthesized experimentally. The coating materials possess high oxidative stability, with the materials predicted to decompose above 4.2 V, suggesting that they have good electrochemical stability under a high-voltage cathode. In addition, the candidate coatings exhibit significant chemical stability when in contact with oxide cathodes. Finally, we have studied the Li-ion transport paths and migration barriers of LiMXO4F (M-X = Al-P and Mg-S) and calculated the low migration barriers to be 0.19 and 0.09 eV, respectively. Our findings indicate that LiMXO4F (M-X = Al-P and Mg-S) are promising cathode coatings, among which LiAlPO4F has been experimentally confirmed. The theoretical cathode coating computational methods presented here can be extended to the solid-state battery system.

RESUMO

Currently, no consensus exists regarding Sotos syndrome in the Chinese population. Here, we present a case of neonatal Sotos syndrome, followed by a retrospective analysis of five cases of neonatal Sotos syndrome, reported in China. The study subject was a twin premature infant, heavier than gestational age, with characteristic facial features, limb shaking, and hypertonia. Transient hypoglycemia, abnormal cranial magnetic resonance imaging, multiple nodules in polycystic kidneys and liver, abnormal hearing, patent ductus arteriosus, and an atrial septal defect were also noted. The subject showed overgrowth and developmental retardation at 3 months of age. Sequencing revealed a novel missense mutation, c.5000C>A, in the nuclear receptor binding the SET domain protein 1 gene, resulting in an alanine-to-glutamate substitution. The bioinformatics analysis suggested high pathogenicity at this site. This study provides insights into diagnosis of neonatal Sotos syndrome based on specific phenotypes. Subsequent treatment and follow-up should focus on developmental retardation, epilepsy, and scoliosis.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The development of the premaxillary-maxillary suture (PMS) in human fetuses and a possible association between the fusion time of the PMS and maxillary deficiency were investigated. Expression of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-ß1 and TGF-ß3) and of fibulins (fibulin1 and fibulin-5) were also investigated. METHODS: We analyzed 36 human fetus cadavers (19 males, 17 females; average age 23.97 ± 2.57 gestational weeks [gws], range 11-35 gws). Two cases, diagnosed with Down syndrome (DS), were characterized with maxillary deficiency; 34 fetus cadavers did not show any craniofacial abnormalities. The PMS was analyzed anatomically, followed by semi-quantitative immunohistochemical (IHC)-based expression analyses (i.e., TGF-ß1/-ß3, fibulin-1/-5). Spearman correlation test was conducted to investigate correlations. RESULTS: In the fetuses without DS, the labial region of the PMS was open at 11 gws, after which it began to ossify from the middle to the upper and lower ends of the suture, typically fusing completely at 27 gws. Fetuses with DS demonstrated complete fusion of the labial region of PMS with a spongy bone structure at 23 gws and those without DS at 27 gws. IHC revealed similar patterns of TGF-ßs and fibulins expression in the PMS during the human fetal period. There were significant positive correlations between the expression of TGF-ß1 and TGF-ß3 (r = 0.64, p = 0.009), TGF-ß1 and fibulin1 (r = 0.66, p = 0.008), and TGF-ß3 and fibulin1 (r = 0.67, p = 0.006). CONCLUSION: Premature fusion of the PMS in the labial region during the human fetal period may be associated with maxillary deficiency, which is related to a class III malocclusion. Overall, the similar expression patterns of TGF-ß1, TGF-ß3 and fibulin1 suggested a close relationship between these factors in regulating the development of the PMS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism of electroacupuncture (EA) in improving the long-term survival rate of mice after myocardial infarction by promoting angiogenesis and inhibiting ventricular remodeling. METHODS: A total of 102 male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into sham operation, model and EA groups (n=34 /group). The myocardial infarction model was established by permanent ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery. Beginning from the 3rd day after ligation, EA (2 Hz/20 Hz) was applied to bilateral "Neiguan" (PC6) and "Ximen" (PC4) for 30 min, once a day for 28 days. The survival rate in 140 d was recorded and the left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) calculated by using echocardiography after the treatment. The left cardiac ventricular tissue was cut into sections to be stained with Masson's trichrome, wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) immunohistochemistry method, followed by measuring the collagen area in the marginal region of myocardial infarction and calculating the collagen volume fraction (for assessing the severity of myocardial fibrosis), measuring the sectional area of cardiomyocytes (for assessing the degree of myocardial hypertrophy), and ob-serving the newborn blood vessels and calculating the ratio of neovascularization area (for assessing the state of angiogenesis). The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α protein in the boundary area of myocardial infarction were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: After modeling, the survival rate, EF, and the thickness of the left cardiac ventricle were significantly decreased (P<0.01), whereas the percentage of collagen deposition area, sectional area of cardiomyocyte, percentage of angiogenesis area, and the expression levels of VEGF and HIF-1α proteins were significantly increased (P<0.01) in the model group relevant to the sham operation group. Compared with the model group, the survival rate, EF, the thickness of the left cardiac ventricle, the percentage of angiogenesis area, and the expression levels of VEGF and HIF-1α proteins were significantly increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the percentage of collagen deposition area and the sectional area of the cardiomyocyte were considerably decreased in the EA group (P<0.01, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: EA of PC6 and PC4 can significantly improve the cardiac function and long-term survival rate in mice with myocardial infarction, which may be related to its functions in up-regulating the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF to promote angiogenesis and in inhibiting ventricular remodeling.

RESUMO

The Hubble parameter is one of the central parameters in modern cosmology, and describes the present expansion rate of the universe. The values of the parameter inferred from late-time observations are systematically higher than those inferred from early-time measurements by about [Formula: see text]. To reach a robust conclusion, independent probes with accuracy at percent levels are crucial. Gravitational waves from compact binary coalescence events can be formulated into the standard siren approach to provide an independent Hubble parameter measurement. The future space-borne gravitational wave observatory network, such as the LISA-Taiji network, will be able to measure the gravitational wave signals in the millihertz bands with unprecedented accuracy. By including several statistical and instrumental noises, we show that, within a five-year operation time, the LISA-Taiji network is able to constrain the Hubble parameter within [Formula: see text] accuracy, and possibly beats the scatters down to [Formula: see text] or even better.

RESUMO

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in regulated gene expression and miRNA biogenesis is also subject to regulation, together constituting critical regulatory circuitries in numerous physiological and pathological processes. As a dsRNA binding protein, interleukin enhancer binding factor 3 (ILF3) has been implicated as a negative regulator in miRNA biogenesis, but the mechanism and specificity have remained undefined. Here, combining small-RNA-seq and CLIP-seq, we showed that ILF3 directly represses many miRNAs or perhaps other types of small RNAs annotated in both miRBase and MirGeneDB. We demonstrated that ILF3 preferentially binds to A/U-enriched motifs, which tend to lengthen and/or stabilize the stem-loop in pri-miRNAs, thereby effectively competing with the Microprocessor to block miRNA biogenesis. Focusing on the biological function of ILF3-suppressed miR-582-3p, we discovered that this LINE-derived miRNA targets a critical interferon-inducible gene RIG-I for repression, thus establishing a novel ILF3/miR-582/RIG-I axis in the antiviral response.
