RESUMO

Arrayed waveguide grating is a versatile and scalable integrated light dispersion device, which has been widely adopted in various applications, including, optical communications and optical sensing. Recently, thin-film lithium niobate emerges as a promising photonic integration platform, due to its ability of shrinking largely the size of typical lithium niobate based optical devices. This would also enable multifunctional photonic integrated chips on a single lithium niobate substrate. However, due to the intrinsic anisotropy of the material, to build an arrayed waveguide grating on X-cut thin-film lithium niobate has never been successful. Here, a universal strategy to design anisotropy-free dispersive components on a uniaxial in-plane anisotropic photonic integration platform is introduced for the first time. This leads to the first implementation of arrayed waveguide gratings on X-cut thin-film lithium niobate with various configurations and high-performances. The best insertion loss of 2.4 dB and crosstalk of -24.1 dB is obtained for the fabricated arrayed waveguide grating devices. Applications of such arrayed waveguide gratings as a wavelength router and in a wavelength-division multiplexed optical transmission system are also demonstrated.

RESUMO

Sharp bends are crucial for large-scale and high-density photonics integration on thin-film lithium niobate platform. In this study, we demonstrate low-loss (<0.05 dB) and sharp bends (Reff = 30 µm) using free-form curves with a 200-nm-thick slab and a rib height of 200 nm on x-cut lithium niobate. Employing the same design method, we successfully realize a compact fully-etched ring resonator with a remarkably large free spectral range of 10.36 nm experimentally. Notably, the equivalent radius of the ring resonator is a mere 15 µm, with a loaded Q factor reaching 2.2 × 104.

RESUMO

A metal-based one-dimensional grating coupler on an x-cut lithium-niobate-on-insulator wafer structure for a polarization-independent fiber interface is designed and demonstrated. By using a metal-based plasmonic mode, the diffractive angle for the two polarized modes in the lithium niobate ridge waveguide can be tuned to be the same. The polarization dependence of the grating coupler therefore can be effectively reduced. The fabricated device exhibits -3.56-dB and -4.08-dB peak coupling losses per coupler at 1573 nm for the TE and TM modes, respectively. The polarization-dependent losses are less than 0.69 dB in a 44-nm wavelength range. The demonstrated grating coupler can serve as a polarization-independent optical fiber interface on lithium-niobate-on-insulator and facilitate on-chip polarization diversity applications.

RESUMO

In this work, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a broadband polarization splitter-rotator (PSR) on the lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI). With multiple sequentially connected adiabatic tapers for waveguide mode conversion and directional coupling, the PSR shows a 160-nm bandwidth covering the C and L bands, an insertion loss of less than 2 dB, and an extinction ratio of more than 11 dB. Benefiting from the conversion-enhanced adiabatic tapers, the broadband device has a short length of 405 µm. Further optimization is performed to reduce the device length to 271 µm and comparable performances are achieved, demonstrating the feasibility of higher device compactness. The proposed design and principle can contribute to high-performance polarization management for integrated lithium niobate photonics.

RESUMO

Electro-optic (EO) modulators with a high modulation bandwidth are indispensable parts of an optical interconnect system. A key requirement for an energy-efficient EO modulator is the low drive voltage, which can be provided using a standard complementary metal oxide semiconductor circuity without an amplifying driver. Thin-film lithium niobate has emerged as a new promising platform, and shown its capable of achieving driverless and high-speed EO modulators. In this paper, we report a compact high-performance modulator based on the thin-film lithium niobate platform on a silicon substrate. The periodic capacitively loaded travelling-wave electrode is employed to achieve a large modulation bandwidth and a low drive voltage, which can support a driverless single-lane 100Gbaud operation. The folded modulation section design also helps to reduce the device length by almost two thirds. The fabricated device represents a large EO bandwidth of 45GHz with a half-wave voltage of 0.7V. The driverless transmission of a 100Gbaud 4-level pulse amplitude modulation signal is demonstrated with a power consumption of 4.49fj/bit and a bit-error rate below the KP4 forward-error correction threshold of 2.4×10-4.

RESUMO

We experimentally demonstrate an integrated visible light modulator at 532 nm on the thin-film lithium niobate platform. The waveguides on such platform feature a propagation loss of 2.2 dB/mm while a grating for fiber interface has a coupling loss of 5 dB. Our fabricated modulator demonstrates a low voltage-length product of 1.1 V·cm and a large electro-optic bandwidth with a roll-off of -1.59 dB at 25 GHz for a length of 3.3 mm. This device offers a compact and large bandwidth solution to the challenge of integrated visible wavelength modulation in lithium niobate and paves the way for future small-form-factor integrated systems at visible wavelengths.

RESUMO

A polarization splitter-rotator device can facilitate on-chip polarization-division multiplexing to enhance the transmission data rate. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a polarization splitter-rotator based on adiabatic mode evolution on the thin-film lithium niobate platform. The measured results for a fabricated device show low insertion losses of <-0.5 dB and large extinction ratios of >20 dB over the 110-nm band. Large fabrication tolerance is also demonstrated with extinction ratios of >15 dB in the wavelength range of 1465-1630 nm for a waveguide width variation of 80 nm.

RESUMO

A high-sensitivity electrode-free photonic electric field (E-field) sensor is introduced on a thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform. An integrated Michelson interferometer, constructed by low-loss etched lithium niobite (LN) waveguide structures, is implemented as the sensing element. The sensing arms are designed in a spiral shape, which facilities a long interaction length with the external E-field in a small chip area. A minimal detectable E-field amplitude of 8.43 mV/m/Hz1/2 is experimentally obtained. The metal-electrode-free design of the proposed device avoids affecting the E-field to be measured and enables a vectorial response with a measured extinction ratio (ER) of 38 dB.

RESUMO

A two-dimensional grating coupler for coupling light between a standard single-mode fiber and ridge waveguides on an X-cut lithium niobate thin-film is designed and demonstrated. Using circular holes for grating cells, simulated coupling losses reach -3.88 dB at 1550 nm and -5.78 dB at 1563 nm with 1-dB bandwidths of 49 nm and 45 nm for P-polarized and S-polarized light inputs, respectively. Experimentally, peak coupling losses of -5.13 dB at 1561 nm and -7.6 dB at 1568 nm are obtained for P-polarized and S-polarized light inputs, respectively, and corresponding 1 dB bandwidths are about 30 nm. An approach to improve the coupling performance of the grating coupler is also proposed using two crossing ellipses as grating cells as well as a bottom metal reflector. The coupling loss and the polarization dependent loss are decreased to around -3.4 dB and 0.44 dB, respectively.

RESUMO

Thin-film lithium niobate (LN) has been proved to be an excellent platform for building compact active and nonlinear photonic components on a chip. The coupling of a sub-micron sized LN waveguide and a single-mode fiber remains as one challenging issue. An efficient grating coupler made of Au stripes on an LN ridge waveguide is demonstrated here. The fabrication of the grating is convenient, using just a standard lift-off process of metal films. The peak coupling efficiency of an optimized structure reaches 50.4%, i.e., -3 dB coupling loss, at 1.55 µm wavelength for the fundamental transverse-electrical mode, where the 1-dB coupling bandwidth is 58 nm. Experimentally, fabricated devices, with buried oxide layer thicknesses slightly off the optimal values, exhibit coupling efficiencies of 43.8% and 33.7% for 400 nm and 600 nm thick LN layers.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Compared with chemotherapy, whether aidi injection can improve the patient's quality of life is not definite. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of axotere plus eisplatin chemotherapy combining aidi injection for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS: We searched relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from Cochrane library, Pubmed, EMBASE, CancerLit, VIP, CBM and CNKI etc. The search was finished in March 20, 2010. We traced the related references and experts in this field, besides we also communicated with other authors to obtain some certain information that has not been found. RCTs of aidi injection plus TP versus TP for advanced NSCLC were included. We evaluated the quality of these included studies and analyzed data by Cochrane Collaboration's RevMan 5.0 software. RESULTS: Eleven RCTs involving 800 patients were included. meta analysis results suggested that compared with TP chemotherapy alone, the combination had a statistically significant benefit in healing efficacy (RR=1.2, 95%CI: 1.10-1.47, P=0.001) and improving quality of life (QOL) (RR=1.85, 95%Cl: 1.54-2.21, P < 0.001). Besides, the combination also had a statistically significant benefit in myelosuppression, white blood cell (WBC)(RR=0.71, 95%CI: 0.57-0.87, P=0.001) and hematoblast (RR=0.59, 95%CI: 0.40-0.87, P=0.008) and in reducing the gastroenteric reaction (RR=0.75, 95%CI: 0.58-0.98, P=0.03). But the combination had no statistically significant benefit in prevention of reducing hemoglobin (Hb) (RR=0.97, 95%CI: 0.70-1.34, P=0.85), liver function (RR=0.63, 95%CI: 0.09-1.57, P=0.18), kidney function (RR=0.42, 95%CI: 0.14-1.24, P=0.12), peripheral neuritis (RR=0.86, 95%CI: 0.56-1.32, P=0.50), and baldness (RR=0.92, 95%CI: 0.63-1.34, P=0.66). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with TP chemotherapy alone, the combination can significantly improve the efficiency, QOL and myelosuppression, and reduce adverse events.
