Symmetry-wise nanopatterning and plasmonic excitation of ring-like gold nanoholes by structured femtosecond laser pulses with different polarizations.

Low- and ultralow-energy tightly focused 200 fs, 515 nm donut-shaped laser pulses at 0.25 and 0.65 NA focusing were used for single-shot ablative pulse-energy scalable nanopatterning of 50 nm thick gold film and the following plasmonic excitation of dye monolayer photoluminescence (PL) in the fabricated nanostructures, respectively. The same pulses at much lower, non-ablative nanojoule energies, and the same focusing and linear, azimuthal, or radial polarizations provided efficient spectrally and symmetry-matched excitation of both localized and delocalized surface electromagnetic modes in the separate, ring-like through holes and their arrays in the film envisioned by our modeling, thus resulting in a polarization-sensitive yield of rhodamine 6G dye PL. The demonstrated consistency between the symmetries of the donut-shaped low-energy photo-exciting laser beam, its polarization state, and the donut-shaped gold nanostructures, produced by the same beam at high, ablative pulse energies, paves the way to smart, self-consistent nanofabrication and plasmonic sensing, when the structured light interacts with the consistently structured matter.

Flash-imprinting of intense femtosecond surface plasmons for advanced nanoantenna fabrication.

In this work, we demonstrate an all-laser method of fabrication of optical nanoantennas (ONAs) with an additional coupling/focusing diffractive element. This method is based on double-shot femtosecond laser nanoablation of a thin supported metallic film, inducing a sequence of electrodynamic (surface plasmon-polariton [SPP] excitation and interference), thermal (melting, ablation and ultrafast cooling), and hydrodynamic processes. In particular, the thermal and hydrodynamic processes are important for ONA formation after the first laser shot, while second spatially shifted laser shot via an induced SPP wave results in a radial surface grating near the nanoantenna. Such gratings provide efficient coupling between incident laser radiation and SPP waves, thus significantly improving the ONA efficiency.

[The relationship between the craving for alcohol and relapse of the disease].

The craving for alcohol was studied using 2 Russian and 4 international scales, including ratings of the clinician and self-rating of the patient. Depression and anxiety as well as the content of alcohol in exhaled air were assessed. The data were compared to the scores of the Impulsive Relapse Questionnaire. Eighteen patients were studied. The prolonged conscious or insurmountable or poorly controlled drive for alcohol was rare in patients in the remission. Most of patients do not notice such a drive though it was found with the corresponding scales. The craving for alcohol is more often caused by the environment factors related as to alcohol as well to non-specific stress factors and represents a transient impulsive phenomenon that leads to the relapse of disease.

Electron microscopic study of DNA packing in phi(kz) bacteriophage (Pseudomonas Aeruginosa) irradiated with laser in the presence of a dye.

DNA packing of bacteriophage phikz (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) was studied by electron microscopy after gentle destruction of the capsid with powerful laser impulse in aqueous virus suspension in the presence organic dye. Suspension of destroyed phage heads contained complexes of genomic DNA with endogenous capsid proteins characterized by pronounced regular structure. The type of these structures corresponds to one the main model of phage DNA packing, the so-called coil packing.

[Laferon in the treatment of meningoencephalitis]. / Laferon v lechenii meningoéntsefalita.

Administration of laferon to patients stimulates the blood serum interferon formation, with its peak being reached by 24 h. The evaluation done confirmed the therapeutic efficacy of laferon in meningoencephalites. This was manifested by reduction in duration of certain clinical symptoms, timeterms of spinal fluid sanitation, improvement in immunity parameters and increase in the patients' blood serum level of interferon.

[The diagnostic problems of systemic diseases in an infectious disease clinic]. / Voprosy diagnostiki sistemnykh zabolevanii v klinike infektsionnykh boleznei.

Results are reported of a study of 46 patients with systemic diseases: connective tissue, inflammatory granulomatous processes, lymphoid tissue lesions and blood diseases treated in the clinic of infections diseases. Difficulties and errors in their clinical diagnosis, and their causes are shown. It is emphasized that these patients are hospitalized in infections clinics and that the incidence of systemic diseases rises in conditions of radiation environment.

[The diagnosis of acute pneumonia in respiratory viral infections]. / O diagnostike ostroi pnevmonii pri respiratornykh virusnykh infektsiiakh.

Data are reported of 582 case records of patients with acute pneumonia of different influenza epidemic periods, results of a study of 175 lethal cases due to acute pneumonia, that complicated influenza in adults as well as experimental studies on reproduction of para-influenzal-staphylococcal, influenzal-Klebsiella and Proteus-influenzal infections. The study allowed to find out the causes of diagnostic difficulties, to establish the features of the course of acute pneumonia in patients with respiratory viral diseases to disclose the mechanisms of development of lung changes and make propositions facilitating early clinical diagnosis on the prehospital period.

[The development of protracted pneumonias in patients with a history of influenza and acute respiratory diseases]. / Razvitie zatiazhnykh pnevmonii u bol'nykh, perenesshikh gripp i ostrye respiratornye zabolevaniia.

A study is presented of 582 patients with acute viral-bacterial pneumonia in those with a history of influenza and acute respiratory disease (ARD). Protracted course of the disease was observed in 121 (20.8%) and 461 (79.2%) the course of pneumonia was acute. It is shown that the formation of protracted of acute pneumonia in patients with influenza and ARD is furthered by several factors: age, foci of chronic infection, a history of inflammation, increased level of circulating immune complexes, late hospitalization and inadequate therapy. Experiments on Syrian hamsters with induced parainfluenzal infection showed that mixed viral-bacterial infection is more severe than monoinfection.

[The clinical characteristics of diseases caused by Mycoplasma hominis]. / Klinicheskaia kharakteristika zabolevanii, vyzvannykh Mycoplasma hominis.

Of 1125 patients with acute respiratory diseases (complicated) and uncomplicated 49 (4.4%) showed infection caused by Mycoplasma hominis. The diagnosis was established by serological and microbiological methods. The authors describe the microbiological method of detection of the pathogen in nasopharyngeal wash offs and sputum. Illustrative clinical examples are presented.

[A clinical and experimental study of longatsef]. / Kliniko-éksperimental'noe izuchenie longatsefa.

Data are reported of the results of clinical trials of the therapeutic efficacy of longaceph--a drug of the new generation of cephalosporins with a long period of half-decay--in acute pneumonia complicating influenza in 42 patients. The sensitivity of 120 microbial strains to longaceph was also studied. It was established that cephalosporin possesses a high efficacy in diseases caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. A high degree of sensitivity to longaceph was observed in pneumococci biogenous and Streptococcus viridans, Staphylococcus aureus and epidermidis, klebsiellae and escherichiae. A new property of longaceph was found, namely, its capacity to stimulate the formation of endogenous interferon.

The decisive factor in the appearance of postinfection abscesses is the presence of damaged tissues, open to the penetration of microorganisms not only by the exogenic or endogenic route, but also by the so-called exoendogenic route, when they penetrate the body from the air via the upper respiratory ways and further into the blood and damaged tissues.
