RESUMO
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, con el objetivo de dar a conocer los factores que determinaron el destete precoz, utilizando una muestra seleccionada al azar, de 100 niños de 6 meses a 1año, del total de 220 niños menores de 1 año, pertenecientes al Policlínico Docente Martha Martínez Figuera del municipio Güines, Provincia La Habana, en el período comprendido desde el 1ro de enero hasta el 31 de diciembre del 2006. En el mayor porciento de niños estudiados el destete ocurrió de 1-2 meses. La principal causa de supresión de la lactancia natural referida por las madres fue que el niño no se llenaba. Disfrutaron por más tiempo de la lactancia materna exclusiva, los hijos de madres mayores de 30 años, con nivel preuniversitario y el tiempo de lactancia materna exclusiva fue mayor, en los hijos de madres que estudian(AU)
It was performed a retrospective descriptive study, with the aim of knowing the factors for early weaning, using a random sample of 100 children 6 months to 1 year, from the total of 220 children under 1 year, belonging to Martha Martínez Figuera Teaching Polyclinic in Güines municipality, Havana Province, in the period between January 1st until December 31st, 2006. In the largest percentage of children studied, weaning occurred 1-2 months. The main cause of suppression of natural lactancy reported by mothers was that the child is not filled. Children of mothers over 30 years, with preuniversity level, enjoyed exclusive breastfeeding for a longer period and the length of exclusive breastfeeding was higher in children of mothers who are studying(AU)
