RESUMO

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory disease of the hair follicle characterized by recurrent painful and inflamed lesions, predominantly affecting intertriginous regions. Due to its physical sequelae and impact on quality of life, we should be familiarized with this disease to make an appropriate diagnosis and implement an early treatment. This executive summary of the clinical guideline, elaborated by the hidradenitis suppurativa workgroup of the Chilean Society of Dermatology and Venereology (SOCHIDERM), reviews its definition, epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, comorbidities, psycho-emotional impact, clinical presentation, diagnosis, classifications, ultrasonographic evaluation, and its medical and surgical treatments. Finally, a therapeutic approach algorithm is proposed.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: OSA is found commonly in the elderly population (≥65 years old), and CPAP improves sleepiness and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in the middle-aged population; however, data about its efficacy in elderly patients are unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of CPAP for sleepiness, HRQoL, mood, and cognition in elderly patients with OSA. RESEARCH QUESTION: In elderly patients (≥65 years old) with OSA, is CPAP, compared with usual care or sham CPAP, effective at improving sleepiness, HRQoL, mood, and neurocognitive function? STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that included trials performed in elderly patients with OSA. As an intervention, we compared CPAP vs a control group. Two independent reviewers explored several databases; risk of bias (RoB) was evaluated with the Cochrane tool. Changes in sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale), HRQoL (Quebec Sleep Questionnaire), mood (Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale), and neurocognitive tests after treatment were the outcomes. The meta-analysis was conducted according to the DerSimonian-Laird method, and the quality of evidence was rated according to the GRADE guidelines. RESULTS: A total of 4 randomized controlled trials (680 participants) were included. RoB was high for performance and detection bias. CPAP was associated with a 2.62-point improvement in the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (1.93 to 3.30; I2 = 52%). All domains of the Quebec Sleep Questionnaire were improved: hypersomnolence, 0.67 points (0.31 to 1.03; I2 = 75%); diurnal symptoms, -0.71 points (-0.98 to -0.44; I2 = 58%); nocturnal symptoms, 1.09 points (0.9 to 1.27; I2 = 9%); emotions, 0.45 points (0.30 to 0.61; I2 = 11%); and social interaction, 0.55 points (0.1 to 0.99; I2 = 82%). CPAP also improved the Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale depression domain, and there were reports of a slight improvement in neurocognitive tests. The quality of evidence was low and very low for all outcomes. INTERPRETATION: Although CPAP therapy reportedly results in important clinical differences in sleepiness, HRQoL, and mood and a slight improvement in neurocognitive tests, concerns regarding the RoB and quality of the evidence do not support the benefit in all patients. RESUMO

This study evaluated the osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells in response to substances released by the pulp capping agents, Biodentine (BD), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and two-paste calcium hydroxide cement (CHC), along with their physicochemical characteristics. The dimensional stability test showed that of the materials studied, only BD met the standards recommended by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for pulp capping materials and thus can be used safely. In the chemical tests, BD was the most stable material. In the Alizarin red S test, BD formed the higher amount of mineralized nodules in the mineralizing medium and also formed mineralized nodules in a non-mineralizing medium. BD releases substances that can significantly induce formation of the human dental pulp stem cell-mineralized extracellular matrix, with physicochemical characteristics that are more conducive to pulp repair than those of MTA and CHC.

Spirituality is a complex construct to define, in addition, it is scarcely evaluated in practice. Nurses present difficulties when exercising their role as caregiver in this dimension, since they are barely trained to exercise this holistic role. Emotional intelligence plays an important role between understanding personal emotions and the patient's emotions. The objective was to relate the level of spirituality and the level of emotional intelligence in a group of nursing students, for this, data collectedby the SQ Spirituality Questionnaire, Chile version and the TMMS-24, which measures emotional intelligence, were used. The research is of a non-experimental, transactional correlational type, in a sample of nursing students. The type of sampling was non-probabilistic and its sampling design was for convenience. The significant sample for this research is 184 students from first to fifth level who agreed to participate through informed consent. The correlation result, Pearson's r, demonstrated a moderately low strength of association between the dimensions of spirituality and with two of the three dimensions of emotional intelligence, namely, emotional understanding and emotion regulation. It is concluded that there is a relationship between the constructs, also, by promoting training in at least one of the variables, it is contributing to the human development of nursing students, providing space for the delivery of more and better multidimensional and multicultural care to our users.

Abstract The objective of this work was to analyze the experiences of adolescent students with respect to their schooling by characterizing the cultural contradiction within the classroom in those that operate in the contexts of social vulnerability and economic poverty. 42 eighth-grade students from seven educational establishments from the area of Concepción, Chile, were interviewed with a focus on utilizing the biographical method. The results show characteristic features of a sense of cultural identity, as well as a sense of differentiation regarding the role and position of the student at the school, the culture which that position represents, and how it manifests itself in the classroom via the teachers. For some students, the school as complementary to "life projects". For other students, school represents some misinterpretations with respect to their cultural identity.
